Gordon Peterson
Whether it’s the formidable Bane or Charles Bronson (real name Michael Gordon Peterson), throughout the course of his stellar career, Tom Hardy has developed a knack for characters that are as dark as they are fiercely intense. Last year, for instance, his fiery, yet understated performance as Max Rockatansky was enough to leave even Immortan Joe quaking in his boots, and Tom Hardy fans will soon be turning their gaze toward Taboo, FX’s upcoming miniseries that places the British actor in the grubby boots of swashbuckling adventurer, James Keziah Delaney.
From the character description alone, we know that Delaney is “a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed,” but thanks to today’s deluge of Taboo promos, we get to see a glimpse of Hardy’s scenery-chewing role. Set in 1814, here we see James Keziah Delaney return home to London...

One of my favourite directors of the aughts, Nicolas Winding Refn makes an appearance in Cannes this year with Drive, one of the films screening in the main competition. If you are not familiar with the directors name, you should be. He is the man responsible for the Danish crime Pusher trilogy, Bronson starring Tom Hardy in the life of notorious prisoner Michael Gordon Peterson, and last year’s Viking art-house flick Valhalla Rising. Drive stars Ryan Gosling as a stuntman who doubles as a getaway driver, a film which Cannes describes as such:
Drive is the story of a Hollywood stunt driver by day, a loner by nature who moonlights as a top-notch getaway driver-for-hire in the criminal underworld. He finds himself a target for some of La’s most dangerous men after agreeing to aid the husband of his beautiful neighbor, Irene. When the job goes dangerously awry,...

Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer is getting sick of what he has deemed the "liberal obsession" with Sarah Palin. Cornered to comment on the latest Palin news by PBS' Inside Washington host Gordon Peterson, Krauthammer snarkily remarked on the "weekly segment" on this "one glorious woman" and mocked liberals for suggesting that Palin "is and will always be the only representative of conservatism."...

Bronson
Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn
2008, 92 minutes, United Kingdom
Ferraris are meant to accelerate from 0 to 60mph within seconds, not movies. But someone forgot to tell that to Danish filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (The Pusher Trilogy, Fear X) regarding this powerful and rigorously stylish tragicomedy, which builds to a primal scream during a bravura opening sequence (revamping Oldboy's one-man-army hallway scroll with mosh-pit intimacy), then maintains the intensity, with bleak humor and unexpected pathos, for an hour and a half. Based on the sensational milestones in the "career" of Britain's most violent prisoner, Charles Bronson (née Michael Gordon Peterson; named after the Death Wish star by a bareknuckle boxing promoter), the film breezes through the middle-class upbringing of a man who -- in 1974, at the age of 19 -- botched an armed robbery and was given seven years in the slammer,...

Musician Gordon Peterson is reportedly suing Eddie Vedder after the Pearl Jam singer covered one of his songs. Vedder recorded a version of Hard Sun for the Into the Wild movie soundtrack. Peterson is now suing Vedder for changing some of the track's words. In the suit, Peterson alleges that 'Vedder altered certain key lyrics of Hard Sun… eroding the integrity of the composition'. Peterson also claims that Universal licensed the tune without his permission. He is demanding all profits from the 'acts of infringement'. Vedder's lawyer said that Peterson has no basis for a copyright infringement claim.

Rocker Eddie Vedder is fighting legal action from a Canadian singer/songwriter for changing the lyrics to a song he recorded for the "Into the Wild" soundtrack. The Pearl Jam star recorded Gordon Peterson's tune "Hard Sun" in 2007 for Sean Penn's hit film, but Peterson, who originally wrote the track in 1987, wasn't happy when he heard the finished version - and realized the rock icon had altered the lyrics.
Peterson is now suing Vedder and has filed papers in New York's Manhattan federal court. The suit states, "Vedder altered certain key lyrics of 'Hard Sun'... eroding the integrity of the composition." Executives at Universal Music are also targeted in the lawsuit after allegedly licensing the track without his permission.

Plot: Michael Gordon Peterson, aka Charles Bronson, is a bad fellow that has made a career over in England of being a prisoner. He takes hostages, he fights the guards and he seems genuinely happy that he is locked up. In the film, Bronson spends an hour and a half or so talking with his audience (you, the ones watching at home or in the theatre) about his crimes and the way he thinks. And thanks to Tom Hardy as Peterson, you definitely get one amazing performance that will last you a...

Michael Gordon Peterson—dubbed “Charles Bronson” by a bare-knuckle boxing promoter—was arrested in 1974 at age 22, and sentenced to seven years in prison for armed robbery. Since then, he’s spent all but four years of his life behind bars, both for crimes committed on the outside and for violence perpetrated on the inside. For his movie Bronson, director Nicolas Winding Refn turns Petersen’s life story into a pensive, Kubrickian study of anti-social behavior. From an opening sequence that has a naked, greased-up Tom Hardy (as Petersen) punching at a cage in slow-motion while The Walker Brothers ...

If you're from England, you probably already know the name Charlie Bronson. No, not the famous actor of Death Wish but the criminal born Michael Gordon Peterson, who built his reputation in the British penal system by taking guards hostage then duking it out with all comers in brutal fights that helped him earn the lofty title of "Britain's most famous criminal." Bronson (the movie) is the remarkable new film from Nicolas Winding Refn, the Danish filmmaker behind The Pusher Trilogy , and it's quite a departure in terms of being a much more visual and visceral experience even than his ultra-violent look at Copenhagen's drug underground. Channeling the sensibilities of Stanley Kubrick circa A Clockwork Orange , Refn tells Bronson's story in an unconventional way,...

If you're not going to come to Fantastic Fest, you're only lucky because you'll still have your eyeballs by the end of the month. We here at Fsr on the other hand will definitely lose the damned things along with most of our spinal column and our sanity. While we can't prepare for going blind, we can practice losing our minds, so we're taking a look at the 20 film we're most excited to see this year at Fantastic Fest. Blood, boobs, gore, nonsensical plots from the Far East, more blood, A.D.D. children's toys, zombie attacks, strange and unexplained occurrences, and more blood. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. It was tough narrowing down the field, and we probably did a crap job of it, but it's the best we can do when faced with the intensity of a film festival such as this. Looking forward to seeing you on the other side: Daybreakers...

When I see these pics from the upcoming Bronson I think beautiful, bloody fun. Tom Hardy was the best part of Rocknrolla in my opinion, plus he's going to be in the crazy ass Inception. I also just noticed how much Hardy bulked up for the role. He looks completely different. After reading about the real Charles, whose given name is Michael Gordon Peterson, I anxiously anticipate the antics. There's something interesting about a man who demands an inflatable doll, a helicopter, and a cup of tea for ransom. God I hope they put that in the movie.
