Taiwan-based production company Aview Images has joined Indonesian drama “Our Son” as a co-production partner, bringing post-production expertise to the project from award-winning filmmaker Luhki Herwanayogi.
The film, which wrapped principal photography recently in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is eyeing a summer international festival premiere. Led by Kuek Shee Heng and Alice You, Aview Images will handle the film’s sound production, music composition, color grading, and visual effects in Taiwan. This collaboration follows Aview’s recent work on “Tale of The Land” with Indonesia’s KawanKawan Media, which marked the first-ever Indonesia-Taiwan co-production.
The drama, produced by Indonesia-based companies Catchlight Pictures and Qun Films, tells the story of two childless married couples who unexpectedly find themselves raising a son resulting from an illicit affair between their families.

One of the most common critiques of the countless horror movies out there is that they rely too much on jump scares, essentially neglecting any other kind of filmic aspect. In the case of Indonesia however, a country whose production is dominated by titles of the category (60 out of the 204 for 2024) the filmmakers seem to wear this criticism with pride, essentially indulging in it as much as possible. “The Queen of Witchcraft” is definitely one of those films.

An emerging director in the Indonesian scene, Teddy Soeriaatmadja has so far made the focus of his career since “Blue Banyu” as a man focused on a realistic take on social taboos, especially the Trilogy of Intimacy that started with Lovely Man in 2011 and ended with “About a Woman” in 2015. With such a profound series of subtle family portraits to his credit, it might be a shock to see him veer quite a ways away from the genre into a full-throttled horror effort such as his newest piece “Affliction,” but those who check the film out during the Horror Nights selection at the 2022 Five Flavours Film Festival will find something not far removed from his main field of interest, even with this being a departure from his previous style.
