En diversas localizaciones del Puerto de la Cruz, en Tenerife, ha comenzado el rodaje de “Islas”, la última película de la directora y guionista argentina Marina Seresesky. Una película que explora diversos temas como la soledad, la memoria y el miedo.

“Islas” transcurre en el majestuoso y esplendoroso Hotel Paradise, un enorme alojamiento que vivió un pasado glorioso y opulento… Ahora, decadente y anticuado, y del que ya solo queda el recuerdo… Mientras sus escasos empleados y clientes conviven envueltos por una apatía y desengaño profundos, el pasado y el futuro de sus dos protagonistas se funde en esa realidad alternativa que ofrece el todo incluido del Hotel Paradise.

La película supone el gran regreso al cine de la actriz y cantante Ana Belén. El actor Manu Vega (“Lobo Feroz”) coprotagoniza la película.

“Disco, Ibiza, Locomía” es la nueva película dirigida por Kike Maíllo (“Toro”), escrita por Marta Libertad (“Oswald. El falsificador”) y el propio Maíllo y producida por Kiko Martínez (“Perfectos Desconocidos”).

“Girl, Unknown,” the sophomore feature from Spanish director Pablo Maqueda (“Dear Werner”), currently ranks as one of the early buzz titles at the Málaga Film Festival, even before its world premiere.

The film adapts Paco Bezerra’s stage play “Grooming.” Maqueda, Bezerra and Haizea G. Viana wrote the script, which retains the play’s unsettling cat-and-mouse element. It delves into the recesses of desire, raising questions on depravity, sexuality, and the drive to be fulfilled. The story unfolds a pendulum swinging power dynamic between the seemingly innocent 16 year old Carolina, and a middle aged man she meets in a park named Leo. What begins and is a case of grooming morphs into something far more complex due to Carolina not being all she seems. Maqueda shows a Hanekesque talent in balancing the disturbing with the thrilling. On the film, Maqueda told Variety: “I feel the film as a kaleidoscope and the characters as masks.

Barcelona-based Filmax has picked up international sales rights to psychological thriller “Girl Unknown” (“La desconocida”), the sophomore film by Spanish director Pablo Maqueda (“Dear Werner”).

The film is based on the hit play “Grooming,” penned by Paco Bezerra, which has been adapted in more than 10 countries. Filmax is launching the film with a first promo at the European Film Market.

“Girl Unknown,” a Spanish co-production from Fórmula Cine Aie in association with Elamedia Estudio and La Fragua Producciones, shot on locations in Madrid and Albacete, and is currently in post.

Maqueda, Bezerra and Haizea G. Viana wrote the script, which retains the play’s cat and mouse element, as well as the constant plot twists.

Champions, a basketball-themed comedy, and The Realm, a political thriller, emerged as the top winners in Spain’s 33rd annual Goya Awards.

Roma, which was also taking the top prize across the Atlantic at Saturday night’s DGA Awards, won a Goya for Best Iboamerican Film.

The Realm took home seven trophies, for directing, acting, supporting acting, screenwriting, sound, editing and music. Director Rodrigo Sorogoyen will also be at this month’s Oscars, as a nominee for Best Live-Action Short Film for Mother.

Champions, which was Spain’s official submission for the Best Foreign Language category at the Oscars, won for Best Film. It depicts the efforts of a pro basketball coach who is sentenced to coach a team of intellectually challenged players. Director Javier Fesser cast non-professional actors with actual disabilities to play many of the players.

Political thriller The Realm awarded seven prizes including best director for Rodrigo Sorogoyen.

Political thriller The Realm and local box office comedy hit Champions shared the big prizes at Spain’s Goya Awards, held in Sevilla last night (2 Feb).

The Spanish Film Academy awarded seven prizes to The Realm, who led the race with 13 nominations, including best director for Rodrigo Sorogoyen; and crowned Javier Fesser’s Champions as best film.

Fesser’s comedy was the most successful Spanish film by far at the local box office in 2018 with a gross of $22m. Produced by Películas Pendelton, Rey de Babia A.

Madrid — Spain’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today the nominees for the 33rdedition of the Goya Awards, to be held at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in Sevilla on Feb. 2, 2019.

Leading the pack with 13 nominations is Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s ultra-current political thriller “The Realm,” which impressed in San Sebastian’s main competition. The film is produced by Spain’s Tornasol and Atresmedia Cine and co-produced by Le Pacte and Mondex Cie out of France.

Spain’s foreign-language Oscar submission “Champions” scored an impressive 11 nominations of its own. The heartwarming dramedy about a special needs basketball team was a breakout hit at the Spanish box office this year, grossing €18.5 million ($21.4 million Usd) for Universal Pictures Intl. Spain.

Icíar Bollaín, Isaki Lacuesta and Carlos Vermut to return.

The Spanish films that will be showcased at the 2018 San Sebastian Festival (21-29 September) have been revealed.

The competition titles includeYuli, directed by Icíar Bollaín, who has twice previously competed for the Golden Shellwith Take My Eyes (2003) and Mataharis (2007).

Isaki Lacuesta is also in competition with Between Two Waters. Lacuester’s The Double Steps won the Golden Shell in 2011. The new film stars the two Roma brothers who appeared as teenages in one of the his first films, La Leyenda Del Tiempo.
