Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice was a divisive film, to say the least. There is a section of the fandom that is incredibly fond of how Zack Snyder interpreted the Dcu for the big screen, and then there are those who believe that the Dceu deserved better than Snyder.

One of the most controversial scenes in the film was the death of Henry Cavill’s Superman, which felt like it could have been its own movie. However, it felt out of place in the second film in the Dceu, which seemed like it was trying to play catch up to the MCU. There is also the fact that more than a few fans believed that the scene was not adapted in the best of ways.

This summer is going to be one of the biggest years in comic book movie history, with the release of both Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the official beginning to James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe in the form of Gunn's own Superman. Marvel has, to the dismay of fans worldwide, not been as consistently strong with film and TV content over the past few years (with some exceptions of course), but DC has had a tougher time getting a live action cinematic universe off the ground in general.

The DC Extended Universe under Zack Snyder was met by much criticism from fans, and the DC brand has been harmed over the past decade with some mediocre or downright awful projects. This summer's Superman film must succeed in order for this new DC Universe to shed the dark days of the old one.

When people talk about Dragon Ball Z and superheroes, they often compare Goku to Superman. Both are super strong, can fly, shoot energy blasts, and were sent to Earth from another planet. But according to comic book artist Dan Mora, that comparison might be a little off.

At the DC: Celebrate Superman panel during C2E2 2025, Mora shared his thoughts on who really matches Superman in the Dragon Ball universe — and it’s not who you’d expect.

Mora said that Gohan is the true Superman of Dragon Ball universe and honestly, he makes a good point.

While Goku is always chasing the next big fight, trying to become stronger and pushing his limits, Superman isn’t like that. Superman fights only when he has to. He’s calm, kind, and puts others first. That sounds a lot more like Gohan, Goku’s son than Goku himself.

Last week, DC Studios released nearly 5 minutes of footage from Superman. The extended sneak peek debuted in theaters before A Minecraft Movie and revealed the Man of Tomorrow's arrival at the Fortress of Solitude alongside Krypto.

The expectation is that we might get a new trailer on Superman Day (April 18). However, filmmaker James Gunn appears to have dismissed the possibility during an exchange with a fan on social media.

"We just released five minutes of footage in theaters so it will be a beat," the DC Studios co-ceo confirmed after being asked when a second trailer will arrive.

While we'd bet on something dropping during Friday's Superman Day celebrations, a poster now seems far more likely than a full-blown trailer. If Superman is following Barbie's marketing campaign, a new sneak peek dropping sometime in May might be the current plan.

Well, it looks like that was indeed Jason Momoa we saw suited-up as Lobo on the set of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow the other day, as the Aquaman star has now revealed that he's "just wrapped" filming on the DC Studios movie.

Momoa shared a brief video on Instagram as he cycles through the streets of London, while telling his followers that he has now finished shooting his scenes as the ruthless alien mercenary.

This doesn't mean that it was definitely Momoa we spotted in the set videos below preparing to do battle with Milly Alcock's Girl of Steel, but the timing of his post would certainly suggest as much.

Mumbai Comic Con gets underway today, and Warner Bros. India has shared a photo of a statue promoting James Gunn's Superman.

The life-size statue features David Corenswet's Man of Steel (how good the likeness actually is is up for debate) alongside Krypto the Super-Dog. Some recent plot details revealed that Kal-El will be looking after Supergirl's boisterous pooch, who causes quite a bit of mischief and mayhem in the Fortress of Solitude.

One character who won't have much time for Krypto's shenanigans is Lois Lane.

"She's definitely not a dog person," Rachel Brosnahan told Cbr in a recent interview. "I don't think she's an animal person. She has sh*t to do. She does not...Krypto is not her favourite character, I should say, in the new Superman film."

We're not sure when we'll see a new trailer for Superman, but there's speculation that something might be released...

James Gunn has been putting in serious work to revamp the DC Universe, and the results are finally speaking for themselves. For a while, the DC fanbase, especially the fiercely loyal Henry Cavill supporters, weren’t exactly thrilled about the new direction. Losing Cavill as Superman left a Krypton-sized hole in their hearts, and they weren’t shy about letting Warner Bros. know it.

It's a meeting of the minds, in a new behind-the-scenes image from Superman, which reveals James Gunn chatting it up with David Corenwet's Man of Steel and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor, between takes.

It's difficult to glean any details from the photo, but the trio appear to potentially be shooting a scene at LexCorp, possibly in an office or vault. And based on the hand signals James Gunn is making, it looks as if Lex and Clark are preparing to throwdown.

Perhaps that ring on Lex's pinky has a bit of kryptonite in it to even the fight?

Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El has finally been spotted on set as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow's lead this week, and as we write this, DC Studios has yet to respond with an official first look.

That's not overly surprising, as most studios tend not to have their hands forced by set photos. Nonetheless, it is something of a shame that our first look at the Dcu's Girl of Steel is courtesy of blurry drone footage taken from afar!

This latest video does offer our best look yet at Alcock as Supergirl, and the actress can be seen walking around the set in full costume. As we've previously reported, this design is very much in line with the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic book by Tom King and Bilquis Evely.

There's every chance James Gunn will keep us waiting for a closer look at the suit because Supergirl is expected...

However, when DC Studios decided to take these characters back to the drawing board, there were some casualties. James Gunn has enlisted many of his friends to reprise their respective DC roles, but with a fresh start on the horizon, many movies and ideas were scrapped.

Matt Bomer has starred in many projects over the years, and one of his career-defining roles was the one of the charming and charismatic Neal Caffrey in The White Collar. He went to star in many other critically acclaimed projects, including 2023's Maestro, the limited series Fellow Travelers, and now the Hulu comedy Mid-Century Modern.

However, back in the 2000s, he almost became Clark Kent in an unmade Superman: Flyby project written by J.J. Abrams. The actor had previously addressed losing the role, alluding that it had something to do with his sexuality, as he was outed in the early 2000s. However, Bomer just went online to clarify that he is proud of his career and slammed his portrayal as a victim for not becoming Superman, per Deadline.

Bomer had mentioned that he auditioned for months for the role, which would've included a three-movie project. The actor alluded that his sexuality was "weaponized" against him.

In a now deleted Tweet, Matt Bomer had some strong words for those who paint him as a victim.

Isabela Merced will take flight this summer as Superman 's ally Hawkgirl, joining David Corenswet’s Man of Steel, as well as Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner, Edi Gathergi’s Mister Terrific and Anthony Carrigan’s Metamorpho, among others. However, just like many of her costars, Merced is not exactly a newcomer to the world of superheroes, having appeared in last year’s Sony Spider-Man Universe movie, Madame Web.

The summer movie season is nearly upon us and it can't come soon enough. The first chunk of 2025 has been very rough at the box office. Even after "A Minecraft Movie" posted a $314 million global opening, the domestic box office is trailing about 5% behind 2024. We're also miles behind pre-pandemic levels. So, can the Marvel Cinematic Universe help get us back on the right track with "Thunderbolts" in May? In the early going, it looks like the answer could be yes, but it's going to rely on Marvel delivering a crowd-pleaser of old, as opposed to something more divisive.

Early tracking suggests that director Jake Schreier's "Thunderbolts" will open between $63 and $77 million domestically, per The Hollywood Reporter. So we're looking at over/under $70 million, which would certainly be on the lower end for a summer MCU title. That said, this is also a new franchise without many A-list characters to speak of.

While Isabela Merced is awaiting her April 13 debut on the new season of The Last of Us, she revealed she has learned her lesson about inadvertently letting spoilers slip out about her projects. Merced is set to play Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl in James Gunn’s upcoming Supermanmovie, and she told Entertainment Weekly she’s playing it safe after she unintentionally dropped a spoiler for the highly-anticipated superhero flick.

Merced, during a table read for Superman, sat in her spot with her character’s name on it and accidentally dropped the spoiler via her Instagram story. “I wasn’t even looking at anything else. I just saw my name, and then I saw ‘Hawkgirl, Isabela.’ I was like, F*** yeah! I’m going to share this, put it on my (Instagram) Story,” Merced said.

Doctor Victor von Doom will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe next year, as the lead villain of "Avengers: Doomsday." If you haven't heard, the man behind the metal will be none other than former Tony Stark actor, Robert Downey Jr.

To prepare the world for "Doomsday," the big Marvel Comics crossover event of 2025 is "One World Under Doom." The premise, that Doom actually succeeds in taking over the world and does such a good job the heroes are unsure how to oppose him, is similar to 1987's "Emperor Doom".

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Merced weighed in on James Gunn's ambitious plans for the Dcu. "This industry loves to make plans and not follow through," she acknowledged. "If it's an animated series...I love voiceover. It's so much fun and easy and quick and rewarding. Then my little cousins and my little nieces will get to watch it, and they love that stuff."

Steve Lombard isn't the most well-known character to come out of The Daily Planet newsroom, but the sports columnist will return to the big screen this summer (Michael Kelly previously played him in Man of Steel) in James Gunn's Superman.

On the page, Lombard is typically portrayed as a self-centered, boorish jerk and a prankster who frequently makes Clark Kent the butt of his jokes. Beck Bennett will play this character in the Dcu and talked more about his role during a recent interview with Coming Soon.

"If you know him at all from reading about him online or the comic books, he’s an adversary for Clark Kent at The Daily Planet," the Saturday Night Live alum shared. "They work together, he’s a sports writer there. He’s kind of a little bit of an adversary for everybody. He doesn’t really have a filter. He has strong opinions.

Tom Cruise may be saying goodbye to his Mission: Impossible franchise this May, but if rumors are true, he will make his grand entry into another franchise two months after that. As James Gunn gears up to see if the Dcu will hit or miss with Superman, an industry insider revealed that a major casting surprise was in store, and it might be Tom Cruise.

Cruise has never played a superhero, neither in the MCU nor the Dceu. His biggest takeover of a franchise is probably The Mummy, and we all know how that went. While I love the prospect of Cruise entering the DC universe, I don’t like the second part of that inside scoop: the Top Gun star might be playing Jor-El.

James Gunn is hard at work editing the next Supermantrailer, but it seems it already has a release date. Yes, fans were just treated to a lengthy clip of David Corenswet's Kal-El getting his wounds treated at the Fortress of Solitude, but the hype for a new trailer has not died down.

At the end of a new interview between Gunn and DC's Chief Creative Officer, Jim Lee, it advises fans to celebrate Superman day on Apr. 18, just in time for the upcoming movie. Now, it doesn't announce a new trailer or anything of the sort, but it's quite clear that WB and DC want fans to pay close attention on that particular day. The timing certainly makes sense, as it would be a few weeks after the five-minute preview of Supermanreleased in theaters during A Minecraft Movie before being subsequently released online.

2025 looks set to be the year of Superman. The first trailer for DC Studios and James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie broke records and, provided the movie strikes a chord with people, it stands a very real chance of being one of the year's biggest hits.

If so, it may put the Man of Steel back on the map. The character is viewed as old-fashioned and out of touch by many, but Fantastic Four and Daredevil writer Mark Waid is among those looking to redefine the hero on the page.

He did that a long time ago by reimagining Clark Kent's origin in the critically acclaimed Superman: Birthright. In more recent years, he's written the current Batman/Superman: World's Finest and Justice League Unlimited series.

Talking to Newsarama, Waid shared his take on why all signs point to Superman being the hero this world needs in 2025.

James Gunn took over the reins of Superman from Zack Snyder after the latter’s tenure with DC ended with Justice League. Gunn moved over from the MCU to head the newly formed DC Studios along with his creative partner Peter Safran to craft a compelling interconnected DC universe. The shared franchise is set to begin on the big screen with Gunn’s Superman.

The upcoming film will be the first solo film on the Kryptonian superhero since 2013’s Man of Steel by Zack Snyder and starring Henry Cavill. The Dceu’s iteration of Kal-El has been divisive, for lack of a kinder term, and though Cavill has been accepted as Superman, Snyder’s take only has a few takers. Actor David Corenswet, who plays Clark Kent/Superman, recently shared new details about Krypto, Superman’s famous dog. And let’s just say—this version of Krypto is not your average good boy.

Corenswet explained that in the movie, Krypto’s appearance is “sort of a foster situation.”

“Superman is taking care of this dog… but Krypto is like the worst dog in the world with superpowers, so he’s always destroying the Fortress and hunting wildlife,” he said.

The idea for this version of Krypto actually came from director James Gunn’s own real-life dog, Ozu. Gunn once shared that Ozu was rescued from a very difficult hoarding situation.

With Superman test screenings taking place ahead of the movie's release in theaters this July, spoilers for the DC Studios reboot have started finding their way online. Among them is the fact that Guardians of the Galaxy star Bradley Cooper will play Jor-El.

Is casting a spoiler? Not really. The Man of Steel's father appearing in Superman was a given, and while it's possible Cooper playing the Kryptonian was meant as a surprise, it would be a missed trick not to promote his appearance.

A 5-minute Superman sneak peek was recently released by DC Studios which played in theaters this weekend before A Minecraft Movie. In that, when the hero is taken to the Fortress of Solitude by Krypto, a faint voice can be heard in the background saying the word "Kal-El."
