Exclusive: Netflix’s popular romantic drama Virgin River has cast Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Cody Kearsley (Riverdale) in recurring roles for the upcoming seventh season, which has begun production, with Deadline able to share two behind the scenes images from the set in Vancouver featuring most main cast members, including stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson (You can see them below). The new season, which will pick up two hours after the end of the Season 6 finale at Mel (Breckenridge) and Jack’s (Henderson) wedding, is expected to premiere in early 2026.

Production for Dexter: Resurrection kicked off in January 2025 in New York and the series is set to launch in summer of 2025 on Paramount+ with Showtime. The new original drama series stars SAG and Golden Globe winner Michael C. Hall in the titular role of Dexter Morgan.

Famed bodybuilder and “The Incredible Hulk” star Lou Ferrigno clearly enjoyed playing a murderous, cannibalistic pig farmer in horror film “The Hermit,” marking his first creature role since the CBS TV series in which he played a raging green monster.

“This guy, he’s kind of possessed,” Ferrigno tells Variety. “So you see the pain. You see the demons in him.”

Los Angeles-based sales company Scatena & Rosner Films is at the European Film Market with the completed cut of horror film “The Hermit,” in which Ferrigno plays a gigantic pig farmer whose mother taught him how to cook humans and make them into jerky. Variety has exclusive access to its marketing trailer (watch above).

“The Hermit” is directed by U.S.-based Italian helmer Salvatore Sclafani and produced by Los Angeles- and New York-based Gerry Pass via his Chrome Entertainment shingle in tandem with Sclafani’s First Child Prods.

Well Go USA Entertainment has picked up the North American rights to Shaman, Deadline reports today, a possession horror movie set in a remote Ecuadorian village.

Shaman will be released sometime in mid-2025, the site notes.

The film premiered at the 2024 Austin Film Festival. The film is directed by Antonio Negret and written by Daniel Negret. The film stars Sara Canning (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Daniel Gillies (The Originals), and Jett Klyne (Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness). The film is slated for a mid-2025 release in North America.

The deal was negotiated by Brennan Lane for Well Go USA and Paradigm on behalf of the filmmakers. Myriad represents international film sales and will be available at EFM.

Writing TV is a collaborative process, which often means that seeing a writer's credit on top of a TV episode isn't as strong an indicator of their writing style as you'd think. They may have written most of the script, sure, but a lot of what happens is often decided by the showrunner and the other staff writers. There are plenty of excellent kids books from the 2000s that are worth curling up and reading, even years later. The noughties is a great era in general, but especially in fiction across all literary genres. And Peacock, Universal’s direct-to-consumer streaming platform, has just unveiled its Halloween programming line-up, full of tricks and treats from the studio’s back catalog, as well as two new series (“Teacup” and “Hysteria!”) for some fresh scares.

In 2022 and ’23, there was at least one big Blumhouse movie that simultaneously debuted on Peacock — in ’22, it was David Gordon Green’s trilogy-capping “Halloween Ends” and last year, it was the video game adaptation “Five Nights at Freddy’s”. This year doesn’t have anything quite like that, but it’s still a powerful collection of titles for every viewer.

Amazon Prime Video is the place to go for movies this month, with a plethora of original films as well as new library additions for just about every movie fan. The Emma Roberts-led original Space Cadet hits the streaming service aptly on the Fourth of July, for anyone looking for a fish-out-of-water style comedy. My Spy the Eternal City, the newest film in the Dave Bautista-led family action series also drops on July 18.

One Piece, the live-action adaptation of the popular manga series by Eiichiro Oda, will receive a new season on Netflix. However, the staff behind Season 2 will be different from Season 1.

According to Deadline, Joe Tracz is joining the live-action One Piece series as co-showrunner. Matt Owens, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner of One Piece Season 1, will be working with Tracz on Season 2. Steve Maeda, who previously served as co-showrunner and developed the Netflix TV series with Owen, will remain as executive producer. One Piece Season 2 will begin filming in June for a 2025 premiere.

The “One Piece” live-action series at Netflix is bringing in Joe Tracz to serve as its new co-showrunner for Season 2.

Tracz will helm the popular series based on the Eiichiro Oda manga of the same name alongside Season 1 co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer Matt Owens. Steven Maeda, who developed the series with Owens and was co-showrunner on Season 1, will step down but continue to serve as an executive producer on the series.

“Joe has brought a wealth of enthusiasm and experience into our second season that will help take ‘One Piece’ to new heights,” Owens said. “We’re incredibly lucky to have him as a co-captain of this ship. The best crew on the seas grows larger!”

Tracz most recently worked as a writer and co-executive producer on the Disney+ series adaptation of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” He previously created the Netflix series “Dash & Lily” in addition to serving as showrunner.
