Wonder Woman 1984 is only the latest in a long line of movies that have ventured into the District of Columbia to capture the backdrop of monuments and neoclassical architecture. But the mega pic is relatively rare in that is uses locations in the Dmv — the moniker used to denote the greater metro area of the district and parts of Maryland and Virginia — so extensively. Rather, D.C. typically is used for establishing shots and much of the rest of principal photography is shot elsewhere.
What’s even more unusual is for D.C. to be used for projects that have little to do with politics or government, but have used the city and its surroundings for its sense of place.
There are hopes that it is changing.
D.C. reinstated a film production tax credit several years ago, and although it is not as generous as states like Georgia, it is not insignificant.

The Razzie Awards ceremony, the Golden Raspberry Foundation’s annual skewering of the worst in cinema, was scheduled for tonight at the Barnsdall Theatre in Los Angeles. But the event is either “cancelled/postponed,” according to a statement from the producers.
The reason? “Because the Mayor of Los Angeles shut down all city-owned venues where more than 50 people could gather, including our site, The Barnsdall Theatre,” said the statement from John Wilson, co-founder of the awards. “Without a hall, we could not proceed with the show. But we are hoping to have something to disseminate by tonight – Perhaps even by what had been our original “curtain time” of 8 p.m. tonight. Obviously, if there is no live show, there is nothing to be streamed, either.”

Now that NBC's The Good Place has officially ended, we're going to miss seeing William Jackson Harper as the adorably nerdy (and terribly indecisive) ethics and moral philosophy professor Chidi Anagonye. But that doesn't mean we'll stop fawning over the decisively sexy actor. In addition to the hilarious NBC series, William has appeared in 2018's They Remain and last year's Midsommar, Lost Holiday, and Dark Waters. Soon, we'll also see him star in Barry Jenkins's upcoming Amazon series The Underground Railroad. No doubt his success is due to his crazy talent, but we can't help but think that his crazy hotness has something to do with it, too. Just look at what happens when Chidi takes off those glasses.

For many of us who grow up in comfortable lives, there comes a point when we should probably stop partying with the uncaring narcissistic abandon of those in their early twenties. The Matthews Brothers' Lost Holiday takes place at precisely this moment, when a group of friends hovering on the edge of thirty have splintered apart based on their life choices. Shot on gorgeous Super-16mm film, and using an unusual woodwind score (courtesy of Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha) that should not work, but somehow does, Lost Holiday brims with energy and shenanigans. It is a fleet, irresponsible joy of a thing, and above all, a middle finger to purpose, good taste, or...

Kate Lyn Sheil is an amazing actress and she continues to impress in Lost Holiday, a buddy-comedy-gone-wrong from Michael and Thomas Matthews.
Sheil stars as Margaret, a young woman who returns home to Washington DC with her best friend Henry (Thomas Matthews) to spend the holidays with friends. While at the party of an old high school buddy, Margaret sees her ex-boyfriend and meets his new fiancé, a blow that quickly sours her mood. Henry and Margaret ditch the party in search of a better time and end up looking for drugs, a search that takes them to the home of a local drug dealer/adult movie director.

Christmas parties are almost always terrible. And what makes the average holiday party even worse is when it’s full of old high school friends. Therefore, it makes sense that Margaret and Henry are ready to ditch that terrible scene and enter into a night of debauchery in the new film “Lost Holiday,” which is set to premiere at the upcoming Slamdance Film Festival.

The Slamdance Film Festival has announced the lineups for its 2019 Narrative and Documentary Feature Film Competition programs. The festival, which takes place annually in Park City, Utah, is celebrating its 25th anniversary next year. In addition to the narrative and documentary features in competition, Slamdance has also announced the lineup for its inaugural Breakouts Section.
Featured films playing at Slamdance are all directorial debuts made for less than $1 million and without U.S. distribution. The films were selected for the 2019 festival by a team of Slamdance alumni. Films in both categories are eligible for the Audience Award and Spirit of Slamdance Award, the latter of which is voted upon by filmmakers at the festival.
“When it comes to discovering talent, Slamdance has consistently shown that its artist led community can do it themselves,” said Slamdance Co-founder and President, Peter Baxter. “In a milestone year, our competition lineup symbolizes this ongoing endeavor.
