Exclusive: Erika Alexander has joined the cast of NBC’s Untitled Tracy Morgan pilot from Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and writer Sam Means.

Written by Carlock and Means, the new comedy stars Morgan as a disgraced former football player on a mission to rehabilitate his image.

Alexander will play Monica, Reggie’s (Morgan) childhood sweetheart from Brooklyn. She co-parents with him and still is his agent and business manager, even though they divorced years ago.

In addition to Alexander and Morgan, Daniel Radcliffe will star as Arthur Tobin, an award-winning filmmaker who moves into Reggie’s mansion to film an immersive documentary about the former star running back.

Exclusive: Wilmer Valderrama and Freddy Rodriguez are teaming up on the new weekly podcast series Dos Amigos (Two Friends), premiering on January 30.

The project will join other popular podcasts from Valderrama’s exclusive slate with iHeartMedia’s My Cultura Podcast Network, of which he is a shareholder, including More Better with Stephanie Beatriz and Melissa Fumer, Essential Voices with Wilmer Valderrama, Date My Abuelita, First!, and Forgive Me For I Have Followed. According to TVLine, Syfy has opted not to renew Reginald the Vampire, meaning that the horror comedy series has been canceled after two seasons. An adaptation of Johnny B. Truants Fat Vampire book series, Reginald the Vampire is set in a world populated by "beautiful, fit and vain vampires." Batalon who is best known for playing Ned Leeds in Marvel Studios' Spider-Man trilogy led the series as Reginald Andres, who navigated every kind of obstacle thrown at him, from not being able to be with the girl he loves to having to deal with a bully manager at work. The series was an adaptation of Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire book series. Amazon Prime Video has greenlit “The Greatest,” the first-ever authorized scripted series about the life of Muhammad Ali. Jaalen Best will star as Ali while Ben Watkins, creator of Amazon’s upcoming Alex Cross series, is set as showrunner.

“The Greatest” was produced in collaboration with Ali’s estate, with his widow Lonnie Ali serving as executive producer. The series’ official description reads, “The amazing victories and defeats that made Ali a legend, both in and out of the ring, have been well documented and while those landmark events will live in ‘The Greatest,’ the heartbeat of the story is fueled by all the moments that took place outside of the spotlight. The world remembers an icon, but ‘The Greatest’ is about a man, a husband, a father, a brother and a son.

Bokeem Woodbine, Sunita Mani, and Adam Beach have joined the upcoming Apple TV+ dramedy “Government Cheese,” Variety has learned.

They will star in the series alongside previously announced lead David Oyelowo as well as Simone Missick. Variety exclusively reported the show was in the works at Apple in June 2022.

Mario Van Peebles has been tapped to direct “That’ll Be the Day,” the story of how Buddy Holly and other musicians of the late 1950s helped give birth to rock ‘n’ roll and influence the wider societal and cultural landscape, including the civil rights movement.

Music has been central to much of Van Peebles’ work, from his 1991 gangster movie “New Jack City” to his work on “Wu-Tang: An American Saga,” which he co-executive produced for Hulu. Van Peebles is currently writing a musical stage tribute to his father Melvin Van Peebles, to be performed at New York City’s Lincoln Center later this year.

“America’s tumultuous cultural melting pot has produced transcendent musical talent, including Buddy Holly, who was our first bad ass rock ’n’ roll nerd,” Van Peebles said in a statement.

Disney CEO Bob Iger assures investors that the app will provide extensive general entertainment content for bundle subscribers. Disney has decided to keep Disney+ and Hulu as separate streaming services, but will offer a combined app for bundle subscribers.

Disney+ and Hulu's combined app will launch in December before the full rollout is expected next year. In May 2023, the Mouse House announced that they were planning to launch a merged app that would combine Disney+ and Hulu content into a single experience for subscribers of both services before the end of the year. However, the two streaming services themselves will remain separate. This was despite Disney not fully owning Hulu, but earlier this month, Disney bought out full ownership of Hulu for $8.61 billion.

Deadline hears that another remake of the film, which originally starred Burt Reynolds in 1974 and was remade starring Adam Sandler in 2005, is in the works at Paramount Pictures. Rodney Barnes, who was an exec producer and writer on HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is writing.

It comes from Gunpowder & Sky, whose CEO Van Toffler was an exec producer on the 2005 version when he worked at then-MTV owner Viacom. Toffler is producing with former MTV Films boss David Gale, who reunited with Toffler at Gunpowder & Sky and who also exec produced the Sandler version.

Exclusive: Fresh from two seasons of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, Rodney Barnes is moving to a slightly different court.

Barnes, who has also worked on Heels and Wu-Tang: An American Saga, has teamed up with Ballen Studios for Run, Fool!, a scary podcast series that already has one eye on being adapted for film and TV.

The series, which is produced in partnership with At Will Media, which produced Apple’s Wild Things podcast, and Chameleon producer Campside Media, will launch on November 14.

In 1993, Mario Van Peebles dabbled in the Western genre with Posse. Peebles took after his father, Melvin Van Peebles, who was a notable filmmaker in the blaxploitation genre in the 1970s. RZA is celebrating the 30th anniversary of Wu-Tang Clan’s legendary debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) with a run of symphony shows at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City this November.

Set for November 7th, 8th, and 9th to coincide with the release of 36 Chambers on November 9th, 1993, the shows come after the multi-hyphenate helmed a production called “36 Chambers of Shaolin and A Ballet Through Mud” featuring an orchestra and ballet in Denver earlier this year. It’s unclear if — or how — these 30th anniversary shows will differ from that production, but RZA’s social media announcement described them as “a live orchestra experience.”

V/H/S/85 is the latest installment in the V/H/S franchise and is set in the 1980s, exploring the decade's fixation on serial killers and the Satanic Panic. The film stars Freddy Rodriguez as Wayne Johnson, a detective investigating a series of murders while on the trail of a serial killer, and features different tales directed by a group of talented directors. The five featured segments include a boy fixated on his TV, kids on a lake skiing adventure, a TV crew fighting to survive a natural disaster, the early days of VR, and a deadly dream captured on tape. The film will premiere at Fantastic Fest and stream on Shudder later this year.

At last, nearly two years after announcing Xolo Maridueña as the lead of DC's upcoming "Blue Beetle" movie, the superhero film is almost here. DC Studios released the final trailer for the film on July 11, after previously releasing another trailer on April 3.

The previews show Maridueña accidentally suiting up as the insectoid character, also known to us as teenager Jaime Reyes. After the recent college graduate returns home in search of a bright future, he unexpectedly finds himself in charge of guarding an ancient alien relic, called the Scarab, with his life. However, when the Scarab suddenly chooses Reyes as its symbiotic host, he finds himself bestowed with a suit of armor and extraordinary powers that turn him into the Blue Beetle. With support from his family, he tries to master the powers of the Scarab and keep the technology from falling into the wrong hands.

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year.
