The future of ABC’s freshman drama Doctor Odyssey is looking increasingly uncertain, as the network recently handed out renewals to a slate of scripted series— 9-1-1, The Rookie, Will Trent, Grey’s Anatomy, and Shifting Gears — but noticeably left the high-seas medical drama adrift. Industry forecasts had already flagged Doctor Odyssey as a potential casualty, citing slipping ratings and a production budget notably higher than average. With no official word on its fate, the series remains on the bubble for the next TV season. Despite the looming shadow of cancellation, series lead Joshua Jackson, who stars as Max Bankman, the head doctor aboard the titular ship, remains hopeful that Doctor Odyssey will sail beyond its maiden season.
Speaking in a recent interview with Vulture, Jackson shared that he was cautiously optimistic about Doctor Odyssey’s future, admitting that he's made a conscious effort to keep some emotional distance from what...

As a die-hard "Mad Men" fan, I would argue there is no "worst episode." Although, if you're going to rank each episode, something has to have the lowest score — even if it's not particularly low. On IMDb, just like with movies or entire television series, you can rate individual episodes on a scale of 1-10, and the ratings are then aggregated, with the overall score based on the median. Taking all the scores for every episode, the lowest-rated episode of "Mad Men" ends up being "Ladies Room," which is only the second episode of the first season, receiving a 7.5 rating based on 4.3K votes.
I'm surprised it's not an episode from one of the later seasons, especially season six where Don Draper's "Dante's Inferno"-like hell of repeating bad habits becomes somewhat tedious to watch. What, exactly, disconnects viewers from "Ladies Room"? Perhaps it seems underwhelming after following up on...

Christopher Nolan's twin Oscar wins for 2023's Oppenheimer felt like long-awaited validation for one of the most prominent filmmakers of his era. From singular thrillers like Memento and Insomnia to his blockbuster Dark Knight trilogy, Nolan has always expressed a compelling vision onscreen. The latter stirred controversy (and ultimately changed the rules) when the Academy declined to nominate 2008's The Dark Knight for Best Picture, presumably because it was a big-budget superhero movie. Oppenheimer was viewed as a course correction on the Academy's part, and Nolan's wins combined with his strong box-office record leave him in the enviable position of being able to make anything he wants for his next project.
Nolan's recently announced choice is a surprise: a big-budget adaptation of Homer's epic Greek poem, The Odyssey. The story is one of the most influential pieces of literature ever written, and from Hollywood's perspective, the mythological elements...

As expected, the ending of Hellbound season 2 left us with more unanswered questions than we initially began with. [Spoiler Alert] By the end of season 2, we still have no idea where the monsters came from or on what basis people were getting their decrees. Obviously, it wasn’t based on their sin as Jung Jin-Su believed, because in such a case, why would a newly born, practically sinless Jaehyeon receive a decree from an angel? In season 2, we also came across a new set of individuals called the “Resurrected One,” the people who have come back from the dead. And to be honest, I think the time people spend in hell does shed some light on how things work in Hellbound. As per the show’s timeline, Jung-Ja was the first to be resurrected, and then some 4 years later, Jin-Su followed suit. But if you noticed, Jaehyeon was resurrected in a matter of seconds.

Horror and adventure don't initially sound like they'd be the best combination of movie genres on paper, but in practice, the horror adventure subgenre has resulted in some legendary films. The best adventure movies are full of excitement, danger, and peril, characterized by uncharted journeys into hostile environments with memorable characters and ominous dangers. Horror adventure movies take the idea one step further by removing the four-quadrant appeal of the genre, making the obstacles faced by the capable protagonists all the more visceral and terrifying.
Maintaining a sense of fear and a sense of adventure can often be a difficult balance to strike. Compared to other horror subgenres, protagonists in adventure movies usually have a chance against their villains, actually being able to fight back no matter the demoralizing odds. That's not to say that horror adventure films can't be overwhelmingly scary, thrusting their subjects into chilling situations in known settings.

Frasier season 2, episode 5 has the reboot's most direct references yet to Niles Crane, which ends up being both a blessing and a curse. David Hyde Pierce didn't return as Niles for Frasier's reboot, with the actor choosing not to come back as he was focused on new projects. However, the character does still have a presence in the series, not least thanks to his and Daphne's son, David (Anders Keith), being a series regular.
Nicholas Lyndhurst being part of the Frasier reboot's cast as Alan Cornwall is the closest the reboot has to a Niles, in terms of his close relationship with Frasier, which sometimes spills into a rivalry. But with Frasier writing his memoir in season 2's "The Squash Courtship of Freddy's Father," there's a chance to bring Niles "back," at least in a fashion.

Xbox Game Pass Standard finally fills a hole in the lineup of Game Pass subscription options that's been left unaddressed for far too long, but it still comes with some compromises compared to Game Pass Ultimate. As an online multiplayer service that also grants access to free games, Xbox Game Pass has proven popular on both console and PC. The expensive Ultimate subscription makes the game library available across platforms, while cheaper options grant benefits on one or the other.
The basic PC plan grants access to the free game library while trading the online multiplayer subscription in for an EA Play membership. On console, however, the cheaper Core plan doesn't provide the vast majority of the free game library, traditionally forcing Xbox owners to jump to the pricey Ultimate subscription to enjoy the most exciting benefits. With no leads and unsure of where to turn, she accepts the help of “Sister Megan,” a nun and journalist with the Catholic Guardian. Sister Megan, with her own difficult past, has seen the worst of humanity, yet she still believes in its capacity for good. Lois, on the other hand, fears the world is succumbing to evil. As Above, So Below is a horror film that combines elements of alchemy and Dante's Inferno to create a cleverly confusing plot about redemption and faith. The film is inspired by true events, specifically stories of people getting lost in the Paris catacombs. This adds to the horror element of the movie. While some viewers were dissatisfied with the ending, there is a demand for a sequel. However, a sequel could potentially diminish the impact and mystery of the original's ending.

Much like the art or literature worlds, true originality is a rare commodity in gaming. Inspiration often walks a fine line between homage and outright replication. As much as innovation drives progress, many developers find inspiration in existing titles, sometimes to the point where their games feel more like clones than new creations.
This has given rise to games that borrow heavily from others. And many manage to succeed despite—or perhaps because of—their lack of originality. From Saints Row to The Simpsons Hit and Run, here are nine games that blatantly stole their entire premise from other games.

Poised to take a billion dollars at the box office, the sweary and ultraviolent Deadpool & Wolverine proves where there’s muck there’s brass – so there can’t not be a sequel
As Deadpool & Wolverine is about to hit $1bn at the global box office this weekend, the question Disney suits will no doubt be asking themselves is whether there’s more wonga to be made here. Just about everybody expected Ryan Reynolds’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be a success, but few could have imagined that Shawn Levy’s film would look set to overtake Todd Phillips’s Joker as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time in only its third week of release. This one is going to run and run.
All eyes will now turn to what happens next, because the whole point of the MCU is that there is Always something coming next.

Though the Holocaust had no one architect, Rudolf Höss remains singularly responsible for the speed and efficiency of the atrocities committed at Auschwitz, later emulated at the other Nazi death camps, thanks to his approval of the use of the deadly Zyklon B gas. And for his efforts at the first Auschwitz camp in Oświęcim, Poland, he was rewarded by being made commandant of death camp administration throughout the Nazi-occupied lands. This is the monster on full display in Jonathan Glazer’s adaptation of Martin Amis’s The Zone of Interest.
While the novel’s protagonist is named Paul Doll, Glazer chose to name Christian Friedel’s character Rudolf Höss. This immediately points to Glazer’s interest in bringing in the weight of a well-recorded historical character living in a specific place and time: the Höss household next to Auschwitz I in Oświęcim from 1943 to 1944. Wirt & Greg's journey in Over the Garden Wall mirrors Dante's Inferno's structure, with key parallels in each episode's structure. Characters in the show, like Beatrice & the Beast, mirror allegories to characters in Dante's Inferno, adding depth to the story. Over the Garden Wall cleverly weaves elements of Dante's Inferno into its narrative, offering a unique and insightful viewing experience.
Over the Garden Wall is a beloved animated series that teaches the audience valuable audiences, but fans might not know how similar the main character's quest is to Dante's Inferno. The cartoon miniseries was well-received by fans and critics because of its witty yet macabre stylings and position as an autumnal viewing staple. God of War is one of the oldest and most successful PlayStation first-party franchises. Gamers everywhere are pretty much aware of how legendary this franchise is, even if they haven’t played one of these games. At the end of “True Detective Night Country” episode 1, a frozen block of naked dead bodies — seven to be precise, are discovered. Their faces and a few limbs are sticking out of the ice, and their expressions are that of sheer terror.
Ennis Police Department chief Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster), who has been investigating the disappearance of several researchers from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station, dubs the discovery a “corpsicle.” In Episode 2, the corpsicle is excavated and transferred to an ice rink. Prosthetics designers Lou and Dave Elsey were in charge of constructing the giant set piece, taking inspiration from the grouping of rats known as a “rat king,” sculptures and illustrations such as those in “Dante’s Inferno.”
It began with discussions with showrunner Issa López about what the conglomeration would look like and what the position of the bodies would be. She didn’t want a pile of dead bodies.

A prolific TV character actor, voiceover artist, and one of the tallest performers in Hollywood has passed away. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Richard Moll, known by most as the tall, bald bailiff Aristotle Nostradamus "Bull" Shannon on "Night Court" and the voice of Harvey Dent/Two-Face on "Batman: The Animated Series," died at his home in Big Bear Lake, California. He was 80.
At a towering 6-foot-8-inches tall, Moll often played intimidating figures, like his first television role of "Big Thug" on "Welcome Back, Kotter," Harold the Monster on "Here's Boomer," the abominable snowman in the film "Caveman," the gigantic zombie soldier in "House," Hoagie in "The Flintstones," Mestema in "The Dungeon Master," Hugh Kane in "Scary Movie 2," and even one of the Dementors in "Jingle All the Way."

Lower-budget horror movies like As Above, So Below often receive bad reviews, but this film is an underappreciated gem worth revisiting years later. Critics didn't see the cinematic value in the film because it followed the found-footage trend and tried to cram too much plot in a short runtime. As Above, So Below is underrated because it offers a unique setting in the claustrophobic catacombs of Paris and combines found-footage horror with archeological adventure and historical elements.
It's not uncommon for lower-budget horror movies to receive bad reviews, but 2014's As Above, So Below remains an underappreciated little gem that is much better than its critical legacy suggests. The horror genre, which has been around since the dawn of cinema, has a winning formula where films are produced with smaller budgets and then make a decent return on their investment by promising fans innovative scares and stories. As Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse rejoins the Dungeons & Dragons universe, updated for 5th Edition, there is one name that is forever linked with this fantastically weird world; Tony Diterlizzi. I am, of course, referring to that final, frozen level of hell as pictured in Dante's Inferno. But even calling The Exorcist: Believer colder than the coldest hell might be giving it too much credit, or really, any credit that it does not earn. At first we might think, why does this film even exist? Well, we know why: to make money, to capitalize on a previously existing and beloved film. And perhaps its sequels, but really the first film, which is singular not just as horror but as psychological drama. Luckily we still have Friedkin's masterpiece, because this film, directed by David Gordon Green, co-written by Green, Danny McBride, and Scott Teems, is the opposite in quality. The premise...

This immediately point to Glazer’s interest in bringing in the weight of a well-recorded historical character living in a specific place and time: the Höss household next to Auschwitz I in Oświęcim from 1943 to 1944. Every genre of film has its starting point. For comedy, it was 1895's L'Arroseur Arrosé (The Sprinkler Sprinkled). In 1901, Fire! was the first drama (or at least the first to string together a series of shots into a narrative). The first surviving animated film came in 1906, with Humorous Phases of Funny Faces. 1920 saw actor Douglas Fairbanks take on the role of the iconic hero Zorro in The Mark of Zorro, the first film of the superhero genre. The genesis of the horror film would fall to a three-minute film released in 1896: Le Manoir du Diable, aka The House of the Devil, followed shortly afterward by two other prominent "firsts" in the horror genre: Dante's Inferno, the first feature-length horror film, and The Terror, the first "all-talking" horror feature. When looking back over the horror genre's 128-year history, it's incredible to see how a three-minute clip gave way to the likes of Dario Argento,...

The House of the Devil, released in 1896, was the first horror movie ever made, showcasing horror elements such as skeletons, witches, and objects moving on their own. Georges Méliès, director of the classic A Trip to the Moon brought his illusionist tricks and groundbreaking techniques to The House of the Devil, using film editing and visual effects to frighten audiences. The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, released in 1920, is considered the definitive horror movie of cinema's early years and a German Expressionism masterpiece that continues to influence the genre today with its nightmarish atmosphere and clever use of shadows to build tension.
The horror genre has gone through many changes over the decades, especially in the movies. In its current state, the most memorable productions rely heavily on an "elevated horror" approach, which consists of a psychological approach rather than cheap scares and non-stop violence, delving deep into the psyche of...

I’ve recently been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XVI in my free time. The latest installment of a long-running series of RPGs that are disconnected from each other in all but the title. Each new entry introduces new worlds, characters, gameplay etc. So every new installment has the potential to deliver something wholly new and exciting to new players or long time fans of the series. Some are set in the far future with modern technology, others are set in the past with a focus on magic.
Final Fantasy XVI introduces a more bleak take on series conventions with a story that focuses on warring nations and personal loss. In the world of Valisthea, the nation is at war wielding massive monsters known as Eikons. These giant creatures are traditionally summons in the previous games but here are tools of destruction that are used to advance political ambitions.

Mostly, movies are a joyous escape from our everyday troubles. Whatever is getting us down or affecting our lives, movies are a great way to forget about all that, for just a second. Sometimes they are even just a great way to get our mind out of this messed up world we call home. However, there are some movies out there that, instead of offering the escapism we tend to often seek, hold up a mirror to reflect the tragedies of our lives, our mental state, and the horrors of the real world.
These movies are just as, if not more important than the former. These movies help in raising awareness of issues that some people may not actually be aware of. As well as teaching moral values to many, and helping those who are struggling with the topic in which the movie is tackling. Although it is wrapped in a gang movie package,...

A kindred spirit of Luis Buñuel, but one whose existential compulsions are more palpable, Pier Paolo Pasolini perpetually rebelled against moral hegemony, commiserating with outcasts and creating and dying as one. With the fourth entry of the series already gaining massive praise and admiration all around, I guess it can be said without a shred of doubt that as a franchise, “John Wick” has managed to revolutionize an entire genre of action-oriented movies for the modern audience, all the while staying faithful and conveying adulation to the classic action genre. Screenwriter Derek Kolstad’s and director Chad Stahelski’s inventive vision and lead actor Keanu Reeves’ passion led to making the simplistic arc of an urban legend engaging and unique. Through the use of a uniquely choreographed hands-on approach to the fight sequences, wide shots and long takes, appropriate fight settings, evocative visuals, detailed worldbuilding, and a keen sense of self-awareness—the franchise became one of the most influential ones.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for The Consultant.Christoph Waltz's Regus Patoff in The Consultant is literally and metaphorically the devil in a human disguise — here's how. In its eight-episode runtime, Amazon's The Consultant presents many jarring mysteries, satirical digs at capitalism, and moments of shock-and-awe entertainment to keep viewers on their toes. However, its primary appeal comes from Christopher Waltz's brilliant portrayal of the enigmatic titular Consultant Regus Patoff.
Although something about Patoff seems off when he ruthlessly fires employees and gradually invades their personal lives in Amazon Prime Video's The Consultant's opening moments, nothing suggests that he is anything more than a flawed human. As the show progresses, though, his ability to stay up all night every day and the constant monotone in his voice hint that he is closer to being a machine than a human. What initially seems like a battle of man vs. A.I.

Like its title, the opening shot of Montana Story tells us exactly where we are, as the morning sun peeks over the craggy mountaintops of Big Sky Country. But the sweeping landscapes here — captured by cinematographer Giles Nuttgens with a casual embrace of their beauty that never falls into the postcard trap of majestic awe — serve a different purpose. The idea that all the panoramic splendor equates to a sense of peace and belonging is called into question by damaged characters fumbling for perspective in Scott McGehee and David Siegel’s affecting drama, its tight ensemble led by performances of heart-searing sensitivity from Haley Lu Richardson and Owen Teague.
Since their head-turning 1993 debut with Suture, McGehee and Siegel have been making smart, distinctive movies about knotty family ties, notably the neo-noir The Deep End and an underappreciated contemporary Henry James adaptation, What Maisie Knew.

Freeform has put into development a drama series produced by The Chainsmokers, the network announced on Monday.
Titled “Demo,” the series follows a 20-something musician who “dares to leave behind her struggling indie rock band and her working class family to try writing pop songs in Los Angeles,” according to the network. “Though at first she’s eager to shed her past, she soon discovers that the best songs tell the deepest truths–if only she can find the strength to tell hers.”
Alex Pall and Drew Taggart will serve as executive producers on the project via their Kick the Habit banner, alongside Dan Marcus and Adam Alpert. “Switched at Birth” and “Madam Secretary” alum Joy Gregory will write and co-executive produce.
