Maude Apatow is set to direct Poetic Licence, a film about two best friends as they compete for the attention and affection of their teacher.

Maude Apatow is moving behind the camera. The actress has just set up her own production company, Jewelbox Pictures, together with Olivia Rosenbloom.

As reported by Deadline, the production company’s first project is Poetic Licence in which two best friends are competing for the affection of their middle-aged teacher. Raffi Donatich is penning the script. Deadline’s article doesn’t specify whether the film will be a comedy, but that would certainly fit the bill and Apatow would have plenty of experience in the field as the daughter of comedy director Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann.

Apatow told Deadline that the film “encapsulates the pressures of growing up, and how those pressures don’t necessarily ever go away. It’s a coming-of-age story for all ages.

Reality television star Caitlyn Jenner has come out in support of a New York county’s ban on transgender female athletes.

Jenner, a transwoman, came out to the public in April 2015.

Jenner is also a former Olympic gold medalist, who won the men’s decathlon competition at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Canada.

Last week, Jenner supported the ban on trans athletes during a press conference alongside Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman in Mineola.

The ban would prevent transgender athletes on female sports teams from using county-owned facilities. It applies to over 100 athletic facilities in New York City’s Long Island suburbs, including ballfields, basketball and tennis courts, swimming pools and ice rinks.

The ban does not apply to trans men, only trans women.

She said that having trans women compete would “ruin women’s sports” in the future.

Headland shared this and more details about the series during an Entertainment Weekly Dagobah Dispatch podcast. She revealed that the show is set in the era of the High Republic when the Jedi were at the height of diplomacy and influence. Despite this, the show’s plot will still highlight the rise of the dark side of the Force. The events of The Acolyte will revolve around a former Padawan reunited with a Jedi mentor, as they try to resolve crimes that are influenced by forces more insidious than they expected. Hardy scored seven nominations and tops the list of the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards nominees. Lainey Wilson picked up six nominations, followed by Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, and Cole Swindell with five.

Dolly Parton is returning as ACM Awards host for the second straight year. She’ll be joined by Garth Brooks who’ll be making his Academy of Country Music Awards hosting debut.

This year’s awards show will take place at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. The ACM Awards will air live on Prime Video on Thursday, May 11th.

The Academy of Country Music has unveiled its roster of 2023 ACM Awards nominees, with Hardy and Lainey Wilson leading the way.

Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks will host “Country Music’s Party of the Year,” which is set to stream live on Prime Video on Thursday, May 11 at 8 p.m. Edt/7 p.m. Cdt/5 p.m. Pdt from the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas.

Hardy scored seven nominations this year, including Song of the Year and Artist-Songwriter of the Year, sharing three of those noms with collaborator Wilson for their song, “wait in the truck.” For her part, Wilson received six nods — the most for a female artist this year — including Female Artist of the Year.

Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett, cohosts for this year’s Acadeny of Country Music Awards with Dolly Parton, revealed nominees for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Male Artist of the Year, New Female Artist of the Year, and New Male Artist of the Year on the ACM Awards Twitter this morning.

They also had a something for each other – Allen and Barrett both surprised their partner with nods in the Male and Female Artist of the Year categories.

Warner Bros Television Group on Tuesday revealed the 12 directors selected for the 2020 Warner Bros Television Directors’ Workshop, which will be held virtually this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The redesigned program has been condensed into two weeks (from the usual nine) of online learning, with lectures led by co-teachers Bethany Rooney and Mary Lou Belli along with various showrunners, directors, cinematographers and editors. The practical directing work normally done on Warners’ sets will now be done using co-habitating actors, with the directors work with them remotely.

The program launched in 2013 with the aim to directors from other creative fields for the transition to TV, and to spur equity and inclusion by providing opportunities for female helmers and those from underrepresented groups. Michaela Coel’s breakout success in the U.S. is largely credited to Netflix. The streamer was the domestic distributor of her acclaimed comedy series “Chewing Gum,” for which Coel won a BAFTA for Best Female Performance in a Comedy Program, and she later appeared in an Emmy-winning episode of “Black Mirror” and fronted the 2018 Netflix musical film “Been So Long.” Netflix also released the Coel-starring drama series “Black Earth Rising” outside the United Kingdom in 2019. Coel’s history with Netflix made the streamer a natural destination for her latest project, “I May Destroy You,” but the creator walked away from a mega-deal in order to maintain ownership of the series.

Let’s hear it for the Warner Archive Collection’s voluminous vault of early ’30s Warners, MGM and Rko entertainments, which has given us a real education about this era of filmmaking.

The music scene in Austin, Texas, is alive with talent and energy – and you hope that energy would inspire Terrence Malick, who lives there, to bust out of the filmmaking funk of his recent work (Knight of Cups, To the Wonder). No such luck. Despite a few glimpses of Iggy Pop, Flea, Lykke Li and Big Freedia in live performance, Song to Song has no music in its DNA, not to mention its soul. Instead, Malick indulges in his usual visual tropes, having characters wander around aimlessly while muttering their mock-profound thoughts in voiceover.

Any other time, any other way that Grey’s Anatomy’s April could have been made interim chief of general surgery would have been fine. Fine and dandy, even. But, since it happened when she was in the middle of a revolt on Richard’s behalf against Eliza — and the temporary promotion came at the expense of coconspirator Meredith — it was neither fine nor dandy. In fact, it resulted in Kepner spending most of “It Only Gets Much Worse” wishing that it really was lonely at the top, because she was surrounded by colleagues who mostly were hopping mad at her.

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards, the La Film Festival and Film Independent at Lacma, handed out top honors to Spotlight, Beasts of No Nation and Room at this afternoon's 31st Film Independent Spirit Awards. Carol, The Diary of a Teenage Girl, Krisha, The Look of Silence, Son of Saul and Tangerine also received awards at the ceremony, which was held in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica. Spotlight received the Robert Altman Award. Philippe Faucon’s contemporary immigrant drama Fatima won best film at France’s César ceremony in Paris on Friday, beating hot favourites Marguerite, My Golden Years, and Oscar nominee Mustang as well as Palme d’Or winner Dheepan.

The picture — based on the semi-autobiographical works of Fatima Elayoubi about an illiterate North African woman adapting to life in France — also won Césars for best upcoming actress for Zita Hanot and best adaptation for Faucon.

As was the case last year, when Abderrahmane Sissako’s timely exploration of Islamic extremism of Timbuktu swept the board, the votes of 4,276-strong César academy appear to have been influenced in part by events in France, which like many countries across Europe is preoccupied with immigration and the reality of its ethnic minorities.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards presented its coveted Actor statuettes for the outstanding motion picture and primetime television performances of 2015 at the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center.
