It might not entirely be Bob Chapek’s Disney yet, but Thursday’s virtual Disney Investor Day event made it clear that Baby Yoda is boss.
Pulling out every trick, IP and franchise in the book, the nearly four-hour extravaganza emphasized that Disney is almost all about streaming less than a year after Disney+ launched with The Mandalorian as its marquee offering. Rocketing to more than 86 million subscribers, as was unveiled today by CEO Chapek, the service itself will be full of much more Star Wars, much more Marvel and more movies as the coronavirus pandemic looks to shutter cinemas deep into 2021.
Coming off its best stock performance ever the past two days even as most of its theme parks remain closed due to Covid-19, the jump to light speed of Investor Day 2020 came with the reveal that the Empire is striking back, hard.

"You think you know the history..." But there's always more to the truth! Gravitas has debuted an official trailer for the indie documentary film titled Truth is the Only Client: The Official Investigation of the Murder of John F. Kennedy (that's the full title). The true, inside story of the investigation into the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November of 1963, told by the men who solved the murder, and the people whose lives were changed by it. This documentary explores what these men thought at the time of the investigation and what their views are today. It offers a thorough examination of the hard evidence of the case, updated with the benefit of the passage of time. It is a unique view into the workings of history and, perhaps, one of the only remaining opportunities for people to judge for themselves the effectiveness and conclusions of The Warren Commission.

Sean Connery, the Scottish actor who embodied the Sexual Revolution of the 1960s as cinema’s debut James Bond, has died at 90. In a 45-year career that covered many genres, Connery proved, as much as anyone, that entertainment value and artistic quality could go hand-in-hand. Who else could claim they’d worked with Alfred Hitchcock and Michael Bay, John Huston and Gus Van Sant? Connery did — and he originated the most popular action hero of all time.
The list of plaudits Connery received in his lifetime span a wide spectrum. He won an Academy Award, for playing a hard-edged cop in “The Untouchables,” received the Kennedy Center Honor, and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. But his acclaim went to even greater extremes: Scottish newspaper The Sunday Herald called him “The Greatest Living Scot” while People Magazine didn’t just vote him “Sexiest Man Alive” in 1989 but “Sexiest Man of the Century” a decade later.

TV legend Norman Lear became the oldest person to ever win an Emmy last September at age 97. And now he has a shot at breaking his own record with another Emmy nomination at age 98. Both bids were for his “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” variety specials for ABC. Both featured new live adaptations of “All in the Family,” while the 2019 version had “The Jeffersons” and the one from this past December recreated “Good Times.”
Lear had already won four Emmys for “All in the Family” in the 1970s. In our recent webchat (watch the exclusive video above), he discusses what it was like to prevail all these years later: “Well, I’m a fraction older. These are all individual achievements. This one to share with Brent was an altogether different and wonderful experience.”

With its revolutionary mix of shocking-for-its-time violence and sociopolitical themes, George A. Romero's 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead quickly proved to be enormously influential with filmmakers around the world, and few were able to match its power like Jorge Grau's The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue. Mixing a strong environmental statement with unforgettably terrifying set pieces, Grau's film stands on its own as a horror classic, and now it's been restored to its horrifying glory by Synapse Films in an exclusive new Steelbook release.
A strange twist of fate brings two young travelers, George and Edna, to a small town where an experimental agricultural machine may be bringing the dead back to life! As zombies infest the area and attack the living, a bull-headed detective thinks the couple are Satanists responsible for the local killings. The day John F. Kennedy was assassinated, Brian Wilson and Mike Love met up and, in a half hour, wrote “The Warmth of the Sun,” triggered by the events of that day. But as Bob Dylan’s new epic “Murder Most Foul” shows, that Beach Boys song was the first, but far from the last, pop song recounting, or ruminating on, Kennedy’s death on November 22nd, 1963.
Across decades, artists, and genres, Kennedy’s murder has brought out an array of reactions, reflections and indignation in the pop world – sometimes...

CBS moved up its Kennedy Center Honors this holiday season, which may have helped the special avoid falling to a new all-time low in TV ratings. It wasn’t enough to separate CBS from ABC’s “The Sound of Music” replay, but at least it didn’t do anywhere near as poorly as The CW’s “Christmas Caroler Challenge.”
As per usual on Sundays, the NFL ruled primetime. NBC finished first and Fox, which had the afternoon’s football overrun, was second. Due to the nature of live sports, the below fast-affiliate Nielsen numbers for NBC and Fox should be considered subject to significant adjustment.
NBC was first in ratings with a 3.6 rating/17 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and in total viewers with an average of 13.5 million, according to preliminary numbers. Those were the averages of NBC Sports’ 90-minute pregame show, “Football Night in America,” and the Pittsburgh Steelers-Buffalo Bills game itself.

Martin Sheen knows a thing or two about presidents — and we’re not just talking about his time spent running NBC’s “The West Wing.” The actor portrayed John F. So when TheWrap spoke with the narrator and executive producer of CNN’s upcoming six-part docuseries “American Dynasties: The Kennedys” on Friday, we had to ask him how JFK might have responded to the recent rash of school shootings. For one, Sheen says our 35th president would “have confronted those bastards” at the NRA — unlike...
