As each new year begins, folks celebrate, sometimes with great relief, the passage of time and the cultural highs that held us aloft. Looking back means not quite being ready to look forward, which helps explain the phenomenon of bad movies that plague theaters every January, a notorious dumping ground...

Architects have announced a new album titled The Sky, The Earth & All Between, set for release on February 28th. In advance of the band’s 11th studio LP, the UK metalcore act has unveiled the new single “Whiplash.”
“Whiplash” stands as the third single from The Sky, The Earth & All Between, as previous stand-alone singles “Seeing Red” and “Curse” are part of the album’s 12-song tracklist.
The new song was produced by former Bring Me the Horizon member Jordan Fish. According to drummer Dan Searle, “‘Whiplash’ marks the beginning of a new era for Architects. It is a song that speaks of tribalism, of a deepening chasm that lies between human beings based simply on opinions and beliefs.”
He continued, “It gave us the opportunity to explore these concepts in a way that we haven’t before and for the first time in a while it gave us fuel to write something truly ferocious.

Fans of actor Bill Paxton — and we are legion — likely know that he made his directorial debut in 1980, helming the music video for Barnes & Barnes' immortal classic "Fish Heads." The video, made on a very, very low budget, featured Paxton as a buyer and enthusiast of the titular ichthyoid crania, shown throwing them a birthday party and generally enjoying their company. The video also featured a cameo from Dr. Demento, the famed Los Angeles DJ responsible for proliferating hundreds of well-known novelty hits, and for bringing "Weird Al" Yankovic to the world's attention. Paxton was a weird, wonderful man who ran on the fringes. The fact that he became a well-known mainstream star is kind of wild.
Paxton, of course, began appearing in feature films in the late 1970s and early 1980s, starring in notable genre films like "Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker" and "Mortuary." Many likely first noticed him in...

Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has been telling the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirate Crew’s journey on the Grand Line since 1999. One of the key aspects of the show is how it tends to showcase its secrets that fans would not have seen coming from miles away. Though kept a secret, Oda-Sensei would unravel it himself when he felt the time was correct.

In every corner of One Piece, there lies a mystery. Eiichiro Oda created his magnum opus in such a way that the fans get lost in the mysteries. He also reveals them when the time is right. But there are still a few mysteries that often make the fans question the entire plot. One of those questions is whether Red Haired Shanks stole the Gomu Gomu no Mi for Monkey D. Luffy or if there was another pirate destined to become Sun God Nika.
While it seems a mind-boggling question, several theories believe that Gol D. Roger’s son, Portgas D. Ace, was supposed to eat the Gomu Gomu no Mi. But thanks to Eiichiro Oda, Monkey D. Luffy came out of nowhere to consume the fruit. Unknowingly, it was JoyBoy’s Devil Fruit, Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

In the immediate aftermath of the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, Michelle and Robert King were informed that Paramount+ would not be moving forward with a fifth season of their supernatural drama, Evil. They were given four additional episodes to wrap up the series, which were announced in February. But a funny thing happened just two months later. The first two seasons of Evil dropped on Netflix and were, like so many overlooked library titles that dropped before, a hit.
Evil ranked behind only Bridgerton as the top streaming original as recently as June, a fact that is not lost on the veteran writers and producers who are now officially closing the book on their show at the peak of its popularity. With the last five episodes of Evil‘s fourth and final season kicking off on Paramount+ weekly starting July 25, the Kings recently hopped on Zoom to discuss how...

All seven episodes of Peacock’s “Wolf Like Me” Season 2 are available to stream now (our review), doubling down on the charm and the werewolf complications introduced in season one. It makes for the perfect Halloween binge as October starts to wind down.
The series was created by Abe Forsythe (Little Monsters), who also serves as writer, director, and executive producer.
In season two, Mary (Isla Fisher) and Gary (Josh Gad) leap into the next phase of their relationship and face their biggest challenge yet: pregnancy. Typical anxieties for any expecting couple get exacerbated tenfold when the mom-to-be also happens to be a werewolf.
Without delving into spoilers, the second season ends on a cliffhanger, unlike the tidy, cathartic conclusion of season one. It’s the precise type of ending that demands a third season to see what happens next. Bloody Disgusting sought answers from series creator Abe Forsythe, and...

But the idea of zombies has been around much longer and is actually steeped in fact. Sam Raimi is already well known in the world of Marvel as director of the 2002-2007 Spider-Man trilogy, and even more known for his Evil Dead franchise, so bringing Raimi back into the Marvel fold for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was never going to result in a light and airy rom-com style movie. Marvel Boss Kevin Feige knows this better than many, having worked as associate/executive producer on Raimi's original Spider-Man movies, and he is glad to have Raimi on board the MCU train for the franchise's darker and scarier addition.
"Everything we do at Marvel Studios is from the point of view of the audience, and how do we make the audience feel one way, or how do we evoke an emotion out of an audience? I really feel like I learned that from watching Sam on the Spider-Man movies," Kevin Feige told Rotten Tomatoes of the Sony Pictures production.

The title of disaster movie maestro Roland Emmerich's Independence Day is worked so wonderfully into the movie that it is hard to imagine the 1996 sci-fi hit by any other name. Well, according to star Bill Pullman, the movie was almost entitled Doomsday.
"We shot that at night, of course, because it's dark and not on a soundstage or anything. It was really late, and it got moved into the schedule early, because Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich were in contention right then with Fox about the title. I think it was gonna be Doomsday. It's what Fox wanted, and it was a title that was typical of the time [for a] disaster movie.""They really wanted Independence Day, so we had to make the speech really good. And then they cut it together, and a couple of nights later, Dean came to my trailer, and he said, 'Do you wanna see it'?...

Following the current trend with long running franchises that choose to ignore the previous sequels, Leprechaun Returns follows on from the original 25 years later. A decision which works brilliantly for the film giving it the freedom to not only follow on from the original story but also allowing it to reboot the series.
Leprechaun Returns is brilliantly balanced as it acknowledges the original film, Leprechaun (1993), throughout, whilst also trying to evolve the story. This enables it to appeal to both fans of the original series, whilst also making it accessible to a new audience. Mark Holton is the only returning actor from the original film as he reprises his role of Ozzie (Linden Porco having taken over the pivotal role of the leprechaun from Warwick Davis) and is used initially as a nostalgic connection between the two films. Peter Jackson has a new film headed our way, and this time the man behind such blockbusters as The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit trilogy, and King Kong is bringing us a documentary on Wwi. But rest assured when it's Jackson we're talking about, this documentary is anything but what we've seen before. They Shall Not Grow Old is a film that stitches together more than 600 hours of archival footage and then updates it with today's top technology, bringing the once silent and black and white footage to colorful 3D life in a way never before seen. It really is stunning.
And today we have word that Jackson had such a ball updating the old Wwi footage that he's planning to put his early splatter films through the treatment as well.

Exclusive: New York Comic Con gets an unusually high jolt of star power on Friday, October 5 when Peter Jackson comes to Gotham to introduce Mortal Engines, the tent pole that Christian Rivers directed and Jackson and his The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit scripting partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens adapted from the Philip Reeve novels. I can reveal that Andy Serkis has been secured as Nycc moderator, and he certainly knows more than most about the artistry behind Weta-style world creation filmmaking. Beyond his groundbreaking onscreen work in Lotr and King Kong, Serkis served as Second Unit director on all three The Hobbit films. Though Rivers makes his feature directorial debut on Mortal Engines, he has been working with Jackson for a quarter century and with Serkis for around 20. Rivers rose up from storyboard artist on the Jackson-directed 1987 film Bad Taste to winning the Oscar for Best...

Summer may just be getting started, but Scream Factory has been giving genre fans several reasons to look forward to September. They recently announced upcoming Blu-rays for The Evil, The Seventh Sign, and The Bride, and now they've added 1990's Brain Dead—starring Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton—to their September slate:
From Scream Factory: "1990’s Brain Dead featuring a “double Bill” – Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton – is coming to Blu-ray for the first time this September! The cast also includes Bud Cort (Harold and Maude) and George Kennedy (Cool Hand Luke).
The Eunice Corporation is on the ground floor of an exciting growth industry, utilizing a memory re-sculpting technique pioneered by eccentric neurosurgeon Rex Martin. It envisions nationwide clinics where anyone can lose the hang-ups of an unhappy childhood, a failed romance or a botched career. At Eunice's "New You" outlets, a simple operation will give customers peace of mind.

Welcome back, readers, for another installment of Daily Dead’s 2017 Holiday Gift Guide! For day eight, we are going all in on enamel pins, simply because there are so many amazing designs out there and it was hard to narrow down the list. That being said, here’s a list of over 100 horror and sci-fi themed enamel pins that we discovered online, and we guarantee there’s absolutely something for every genre fan out there, so if you need some stocking stuffer or holiday gift ideas, look no further!
Do keep in mind that in most cases, what you see below is only a partial listing of each site’s inventory, so I recommend digging around each online store for all kinds of goodies, because there are some truly amazing enamel pin designs out there (I could have easily done a list of 200, but my sanity won out).

MaryAnn’s quick take… The reboot no one asked for of a movie no one much remembers has landed… and it’s dead on arrival, with nothing new to say and no new way to say it. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m a fan of some of the cast
I’m “biast” (con): tired of all the reboots
I have seen the source material (and I don’t much like it)

With the Train to Busan (2017) bursting on the screens and the announcement of an inevitable ‘American Remake’, I thought it would be a good time to look back on some of the classic zombie films from around the world.
Night of The Living Dead (1968)
There is often a debate about which of George A. Romero’s Living Dead series is his best. Personally, I am a night person and I love the film which started it all. Self-funded and filmed over a year, Night of the Living Dead was shot on black and white 35mm under the original title Night of the Flesh Eaters. Ground breaking at the time, this not only created the first zombie movie, but also broke taboos by having a black male lead.
Zombies have evolved over the years, become faster, smarter and more violent to satisfy the needs of the audience. However, people still continue...

As many shows do after the death of an actor, we will get a tribute for Bill Paxton on an episode of Training Day this Thursday on CBS in it's regularly scheduled time slot. The episode will be called "Wages of Sin” and will see his costar Kyle Craig (Justin Cornwell) help clear his name after the past comes back to haunt Frank Roarke (Paxton), and threatens the loss of his badge.
On February 25, 2017, Bill Paxton died an untimely death during heart surgery, saddening many friends, family, and fans -- including myself. His resume was exquisite, including his work on Big Love, Twister, Frailty, and Brain Dead.
I admit, I had very low expectations of Training Day, but I decided to watch it for one reason alone; Paxton. I love the show, and he is the main reason. He pulls off the "badguy-yet-goodguy" character Frank Roarke quite well, which was evident from the first episode,...

Amanda Seyfried Remembers Her ‘Father Figure’ Bill Paxton as More Stars Honor the Late Big Love Star
Amanda Seyfried is grieving the sudden loss of her on-screen dad, Bill Paxton.
“He was an amazing and supportive father-figure to me in my early career,” she tells People. “Incredibly inspired and full of life at every turn, he made you feel like everything was possible. This is a terrible loss.”
The actress, 31, starred opposite Paxton, who died at the age of 61, in the polygamy HBO drama Big Love from 2006 to 2011.
Other stars have honored the late actor, including Ginnifer Goodwin, who played one of his three wives in Big Love, as well as Jamie Lee Curtis, director James Cameron,...

Fargo has already managed to break the television mold in a variety of ways, and perhaps the most important is that the second season lived up to the first.
Going for three might be pushing your luck, but the cast is rounding out nicely.
Ewan McGregor and Carrie Coon (Gone Girl, The Leftovers) have already been attached, and now Mary Elizabeth Winstead joins them. Winstead, recently of 10 Cloverfield Lane and Brain Dead, will play Nikki Swango, a recent parolee who is decidedly focused on competitive bridge. This already gives us a clue to this season’s connections, as Ewan McGregor plays brothers, one of whom is a parole officer.
Winstead seems a solid choice for the series, given her demonstrated delivery in both of her most recent efforts, and the reveal of her character offers even more reason to believe this one could hold up as well.
Check out all the info below,...

Iggy and the Stooges, “Gimme Danger”
Mortality is a bitch, and being aware of it even more so. On the other hand, knowing we’re all going to die someday is the inspiration for some great art and some rousing entertainment.
Especially this summer. Gee, I wonder what’s happening this year to freak us all out?
If you listen to the network news (or even read a newspaper, like an old person), you have probably heard plenty about the Zika virus. Spread by mosquitoes, it causes microcephaly in the fetuses of infected pregnant women. I first heard of it striking in Brazil, well before the Olympics, and the virus has spread (as viruses will) throughout the world, including outbreaks in Florida. Besides mosquito bites, Zika is also spread through sexual contact.

Zombies? Again? Since their mid-00s renaissance, zombies have been everywhere: movies, videogames, television – even bestselling books. This ubiquity means that damn near every piece of zombie media comes with a ‘twist’ on the idea: zombie period drama, zombie Westerns, zombie romantic comedy etc. What We Become’s ‘twist’ is that it’s set in Denmark.
Danish cinema is usually associated 90s ‘Dogme 95 collective’; hard-nosed taboo-busting dramas served with lashings of awkward sex and dark comedy. What We Become is an attempt to step away from that and prove that Denmark too can put together a decent genre flick. Turns out they can, but that’s about all they’ve done.
Set in an everytown Danish suburb, we watch the Johansson family try to cope with a mysterious epidemic. Friendly neighbourhood picnics are stubbed out by gas mask wearing riot cops who seal the scared householders inside their homes with plastic wrap.
