Twin children separated at birth was first seen in RAM AUR SHYAM (1967) and SEETA AUR GEETA (1972) CHAALBAAZ (1989) took this trend further

Twin children are separated at birth. One is treated like a slave and is quiet silent, innocent and weak and the other is precocious, free-style and has freedom

There are shades of BETA (1992) where the step-mother hates Anil Kapoor, Anil Kapoor's Kishan and Kanhaiya characteristics have been taken from BETA as to how he is innocent and suddenly gets angry

At one point where Kanhaiya poses as Kishan, he talks to Amrish Puri in a Dev Anand style Wouldn't Amrish Puri have noticed

Anil Kapoor does well in his role and is used to these dual roles Shilpa Shirodkar is really good Madhuri Dixit is bubbly and funny Amrish Puri reminds you of KARAN ARJUN (1995) Dalip Tahil is usual Ranjeet is typecast Saeed Jaffery is usual

Shilpa Shirodkar regretted signing the film after the negative backlash she received for her transparent scene in song Radha Bina Kishan Akela. This movie was the first movie she signed in lead role.

Gaffes
Mahesh says that he took Kanhaiya and Kishen's fingerprints to an expert and he concluded that they are different and belong to two different people. In reality, identical twins share the same DNA and thus every aspect of their body, including their fingerprints are identical.
