Earlier this year, a talented Lego designer presented their original concept for a 4,000+ piece set inspired by the many works of Studio Ghibli. With thousands of supporters now rallying behind the creator, an official Ghibli-inspired Lego set is one step closer to becoming reality.

"The World of Studio Ghibli," a Lego set inspired by several of studio co-founder Hayao Miyazaki's films, is currently being featured on Lego Ideas -- a site where Lego fans can submit prototypes for official consideration by the Lego company. Originally posted on Feb. 27, 2025 by site member "Janrssx," the design features memorable scenes, architectural structures and characters from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Ponyo. On April 6, the set officially reached its target goal of 10,000 supporters, allowing it to progress to Lego's "review" phase.

Before he became known for Spirited Away and multiple Studio Ghibli films, Hayao Miyazaki made his directorial debut in 1978 with the anime series Future Boy Conan. The series has 26 episodes and is based on the 1970 novel The Incredible Tide. As Miyazaki's works continue to find love to this day, this series is finally making its way to streaming.

According to IndieWire, Future Boy Conan will be available to stream on RetroCrush this April. However, not all episodes will be available at once and will be released on a weekly basis. In addition, the show will be streamed on the Fast version of RetroCrush on April 20, 22, and 27 as part of its Hayao Miyazaki-themed marathons.

Future Boy Conan is a show about a boy named Conan, who was raised on an island by his grandfather in a post-apocalyptic world. Years later, he meets a girl named Lana, who was raised on another surviving island.

Before Hayao Miyazaki was a beloved film auteur responsible for classics like “Princess Mononoke” and new masterpieces like “The Boy and the Heron,” the Studio Ghibli co-founder was a veteran of the early Japanese TV anime industry, working as a storyboard and key animation artist for shows like “Lupin III.” And, while most call 1979’s Lupin film “The Castle of Cagliostro” Miyazaki’s directorial debut, the honor actually belongs to “Future Boy Conan,” a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series that ran for 26 episodes the year before. Now, that hidden gem of Miyazaki’s career will be available to stream in the United States for the first time ever.

IndieWire can exclusively reveal that “Future Boy Conan” will begin streaming this April on RetroCrush, a subscription service dedicated to classic anime. Heritage Auctions, the world's largest collectibles auctioneer, is holding its biggest-ever anime artwork event, beginning on March 22 and showcasing over 1,200 total works, including Studio Ghibli films, Dragon Ball Z, Akira and more.

These characters have nuanced personalities, and many fans wish that these characters got more time on screen.

Studio Ghibli's animated worlds are filled with memorable side characters that charm and delight millions of viewers all around the world. This month, Ghibli's official online shop, Donguri Sora, has brought back a popular toy collection that includes mascots from My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky.

As detailed on the shop's website, Donguri Sora's "juggling" bean bags are designed to be extra soft and fluffy to the touch. The full set includes at least 11 different characters, including two different versions of the highly iconic Totoro. Donguri Sora's "Big Totoro" depicts the character peacefully sleeping on his back, while "Medium Totoro" resembles the blue-colored spirit that also appears in My Neighbor Totoro. World-renowned filmmaker and legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki is so synonymous with Studio Ghibli that most viewers assume he directed every one of the iconic studio's movies. Donguri Sora's "Paper Theater" craft kits recently resurfaced on the site's digital catalog. As shown below, these paper crafts are assembled via layered pieces of laser-cut paper that is textured to resemble wood. Two of the three kits recreate iconic architectural structures from Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso. The latter is a highly-detailed blueprint-style model of Marco Rossolini's seaplane, the Savoias 21F. The former, when assembled, depicts "The Tiger Moth" -- the massive airship piloted by Dola's pirate gang. Studio Ghibli is set to release an exclusive collection of original image boards from its iconic films by acclaimed animator and director Hayao Miyazaki. Beginning on Dec. 5, this series will debut with volumes from Nausica of the Valley of the Wind and Castle in the Sky, showcasing never-before-seen artwork that will be available internationally.

Per Comic Natalie, Japanese publishing company Iwanami Shoten will be releasing individual volumes of Miyazakis original hand-painted image boards and storyboards from his work on individual Studio Ghibli films. The volumes will be created using a high-precision scanner in order to replicate the images in as much detail as possible, down to the original texture and size of the illustrations. Each volume will also include never-before-seen artwork and commentary from Studio Ghibli chairperson and co-founder Toshio Suzuki.
