Among the lineup for the Cannes Film Festival’s 78th edition are some big names from Hollywood and global cinema. We already knew that Tom Cruise will light the fuse on Paramount/Skydance’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning on May 14 out of competition, while there was plenty of speculation that Scarlett Johansson would have a pair of movies on the Croisette. The latter has now been confirmed with Johansson’s directorial debut Eleanor the Great set for Un Certain Regard, and her acting reteam with Wes Anderson in his latest, The Phoenician Scheme, in Competition. Also confirmed is Ari Aster’s Eddington with Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal and Emma Stone.

Many more stars are potentially in store now that the bulk of the official selection has been revealed. Not everyone is confirmed to attend the Riviera shindig, but here’s a look at some of the possibilities.

Writer/actress Cassie Keet recently made her feature directorial debut with the horror comedy Scream Therapy, which just received a VOD release from Indican Pictures yesterday and earned her a Panavision camera grant. That grant has allowed her to go into her second feature, a slow-burn psychological cult thriller called Abigail Before Beatrice, which is now filming in Little Rock, Arkansas with Olivia Taylor Dudley (The Magicians) and Riley Dandy (Christmas Bloody Christmas) in the lead roles.

Written and directed by Keet, Abigail Before Beatrice is coming our way from Little Black Dog Entertainment, Nanu Pictures, and Exit 44 Entertainment. Benjamin Dunn and Mindy Van Kuren are producing the film, which is partly financed by New Harvest Creative. The story centers on an isolated woman who must confront her past when a fellow former cult member reaches out with news that their leader has been released from prison early.

Moldovan director Dragos Turea’s debut feature Lenin’s Pawn won the €5,000 Film Center Serbia Award. A joint production by Moldova’s Parmis Film and Romania’s Project Um, Lenin’s Pawn follows a Moldovan actor struggling between his nation’s Soviet past and its European aspirations as he attempts to dismantle Lenin’s monuments.

Back in December, it was announced that Warrior Nun, a live-action series loosely based on Ben Dunn’s manga-style comic book Warrior Nun Areala, had been cancelled after a two season run on the Netflix streaming service. Then a couple months ago, series creator Simon Barry revealed that fans’ #SaveWarriorNun campaign was resulting in the show getting an epic revival. We assumed that meant Warrior Nun season 3, possibly on Netflix, possibly at a different network or streaming service. But now executive producer Dean English has taken to the WarriorNunSaved website to clarify that Warrior Nun is actually being revived with a trilogy of feature films!

I find it fascinating, watching how they find ways to fix their problems. I want to see them on screen,” she states. In her next film, she will focus on a middle-aged French woman, whose life changes forever when she goes to Greece. “It’s a movie with inner and outer journeys, and with lots of international characters.

Author and screenwriter Colo Tavernier O’Hagan has passed away. France’s Institut Lumiére shared the news that the former wife and collaborator of Bertrand Tavernier died of cancer on June 13. A César Award winner for Tavernier’s 1984 drama Un Dimanche A La Campagne, she also worked with such filmmakers as Claude Chabrol and Pierre Granier-Deferre.

Among her credits are the screenplays for her then-husband’s Une Semaine De Vacances (1980), La Passion Béatrice (1987), Dirk Bogarde-starrer Daddy Nostalgia (1990) and L’Appat (1995) — the latter scooping Berlin’s top Golden Bear prize. She also provided the French translation for 1986’s multi award-winning jazz film ‘Round Midnight.

With Chabrol, she collaborated on 1988’s Une Affaire De Femmes and with Granier-Deferre on 1995’s Le Petit Garçon. Of Irish and Franco-Spanish origin, Tavernier O’Hagan also wrote for television and penned the 2013 book about words, Les Maux Des Mots.

Nightline will air at 11:35/10:35c in the coming week, temporarily taking Jimmy Kimmel Live!‘s usual time slot, as part of ABC’s efforts to inform its audience about the latest Covid-19 updates.

Starting on Tuesday and continuing through Friday, Nightline will be broadcast directly after local news while reruns of Kimmel will air in the news journal’s 12:05 am spot, the network announced Sunday.

Netflix's latest buzzy show is Russian Doll, a dark comedy following Nadia, a woman stuck in a twisty Groundhog Day loop: she keeps reliving her 36th birthday party - and dying at the end of every loop. Star and creator Natasha Lyonne is a familiar face to Netflix viewers for her longtime role on Orange Is the New Black, and she's brought along a few other Oitnb alumni to join her on her own series. Among the familiar faces is "Beatrice," the girlfriend of Nadia's fellow time-loop victim Alan.

Beatrice is played by Dascha Polanco, who will most definitely be recognizable to fans of Orange Is the New Black. Since the flagship Netflix original comedy began in 2013, she has played inmate Daya Diaz. During the first two seasons, Polanco was a recurring character, but she was promoted to a series regular for the third season in 2015; she has kept this status ever since.

The European Film Academy will honor French actress and director Julie Delpy with its European Achievement in World Cinema award.

Delpy has been a feature on the European film scene since her feature debut as the 14-year-old “wise young girl” in Jean-Luc Godard's Detective (1985).
