Won the Diploma Award at the 8th Moscow International Film Festival, in Moscow, USSR, in July 1973.
The cast performed their own stunts.
Based on a January 1971 incident where the Greek freighter Vrachos caught fire in Galati harbor while loading a cargo of ammonium nitrate which came close to exploding. The burnt out hulk of the Vrachos was used in this film as the fictional Poseidon.
Many citizens of Galati were hired as extras.
