Beta Fiction Spain, the No. 1 independent distributor in the country this year thanks to a barn-storming €8.0 million ($8.3 million) box office gross from Arantxa Echevarría’s “Undercover,” is set to produce new films from Marcel Barrena and Dani de la Orden, directors of two other big 2024 Spanish breakouts: “El 47” and “A House in Flames.”
With Echevarría attached to direct biopic “Dolores,” Beta Fiction Spain now has in development movies by three of the five directors behind films nominated for Best Picture at Feb. 8’s Spanish Academy Goya Awards.
In all, Beta Fiction Spain releases look set to gross a total €15.2 million ($15.8 million) at Spanish theaters, a considerable achievement given it only launched in May 2022 and released just seven films in 2024, compared to the dozen or so titles it plans to open in Spain from 2025, its first full year of business.

Throne and Liberty is heavily focused on guilds. Players who want to help their guild succeed will need to develop the best builds for their characters. Part of that is determining the best weapon combos. Unlike most MMORPGs, the traditional class system is replaced by the ability to choose two weapons. These weapons determine what abilities and playstyle players end up with. For example, some guns are great for melee players, while others are good for support and healing players.
There are several weapons to choose from and even more combinations. Choosing weapons that complement each other is important to build the best character. Players will need to pick a weapon for their dominant and secondary hands. Choosing the right weapons comes down to a players specific play style. The weapon choices below are some of the best and cater to all different styles.

Now that the new Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Players Handbook is out, DMs and players are evaluating the various shifts to the games balance and rule changes, but one thing is clear martial characters are, broadly speaking, weaker than ever, relative to full spellcasting classes. There are a few exceptions, like high-level Fighters and Barbarian who rely on two-handed heavy weapons, and certain Rogue builds. In all other cases, martial characters contribute less than ever in D&d. The loss of the 2014 5e Sharpshooter's damage gamble feature is the most significant change, elevating spellcasters combat superiority.
The martial-caster divide was a concept that emerged from the analysis of 3e Dungeons & Dragons. This was not present in the 4e system, and the 2014 5e rules minimized this divide, but it has returned in full force with the 2024 D&d revisions.
Other baffling rule changes also muddy the waters. 2014 D&Ds ranged Fighter-Rogue multiclass...

A harrowing tale of trauma, the fragility of memory and culpability, David Robinson-Smith’s Mud Crab seeps into your subconscious and offers you no place to hide from the anger and pain depicted. We follow an unreliable narrator as she recounts the events of a young man’s assault in an Australian coastal town devoid of the typical beauty normally associated with such locations. Inspired by writer/director Robinson-Smith’s own upbringing in a similar town with equally corresponding histories of human degradation and hopelessness, Mud Crab leaves no room for a silver lining or happy ending and instead constricts you with its sombre tones and haunting soundtrack, matching the ruptured memories which lie at the heart of the tale. The real life and narrative transformations in the film, shot over two seasons, are hauntingly real. Ahead of Mud Crab’s premiere on Dn today we spoke to Robinson-Smith about...

A fearsome rumor reaches Britain’s World War II command. The Nazis are developing rocket technology that could rain death on London and then New York. Quickly, England develops a plan to send saboteurs into the sites manufacturing the rockets. Just moments after the carefully chosen commandos parachute into the drop zone, their pilot receives an urgent message: The mission may be compromised. Abort. Operation Crossbow is the partly fact-based tale of how that team succeeded against daunting odds. Michael Anderson directs, guiding a huge cast in a film that builds to a spectacular finale, yet never neglects war’s unsparing personal costs. As a record of a wartime espionage incursion and as an intrigue-filled thriller, Operation Crossbow is on both counts Operation Accomplished.

‘Mission impossible’ escapism about high-stakes wartime sabotage looks at an authentic, dramatic episode of WW2 — the onslaught of futuristic V-Weapons on London — and then veers into fictional fantasy (think big explosions). George Peppard toughs it out to get free of his MGM contract. Lili Palmer and Barbara Rütting do the heavy lifting, while Sophia Loren is in as a glamorous sidebar. Weirdly, the movie all but lionizes the Germans that develop, test and fire the V-Weapon rockets at England … exaggerating their scientific progress and giving them a strange kind of ‘Right Stuff.’

The central mystery of “Big Little Lies” might have been solved at the end of Season 1, but the resolution of that case paved the way for more at the heart of the central California coastal community.
HBO revealed yet another look at the new episodes of its smash literary adaptation, which includes one major cast addition. Meryl Streep co-stars alongside Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Laura Dern as the “Big Little Lies” neighborhood tries to move on from the shocking death at the close of the initial seven-episode run.
As with the first season of the show, this new round of episodes will all be directed by the same person, with “Fish Tank” and “American Honey” filmmaker Andrea Arnold at the helm for every Season 2 installment. The other Season 2 newcomers, along with Streep and Arnold, are new ensemble members Crystal Fox and Mo McRae.

After Maid Marian is kidnapped by the Sheriff of Nottingham, Robin Hood must get a band of men together in order to save her. Many are reluctant, given that they are massively outnumbered by the Sheriff’s forces – but those that do join Robin will stop at nothing to defeat the bloodthirsty tyrant. Together, they hatch an audacious plan to penetrate the depths of the Sheriff’s castle and reclaim Robin’s true love.
The first thing that springs to mind, literally, when Robin Hood: The Rebellion starts is do we really need that much on-screen exposition for a film about Robin Hood? After all, we seem to get a new story of this English folklore legend...

Actor who became a prolific TV director
Peter Hammond, who has died aged 87, moved from acting to become a prolific TV director, contributing to series including The Avengers, Granada's Sherlock Holmes series and Inspector Morse. It was with The Avengers in 1961 that he first made his mark. Hammond and his colleague Don Leaver directed 19 of the opening 26 episodes of the series between them and were largely responsible for creating its distinctive look in its pre-film days.
Hammond established himself as a quick worker who still managed to bring flair to his episodes. He developed a trademark style in which the confines of the small studio spaces would be enlivened by "foreground interest" and scenes would be distorted or heightened by being shot through glass or caught in the reflection of a mirror. This distinctive visual effect would reappear in productions as diverse as the studio-bound Three Musketeers (1966) and Dark Angel,...

Being a big fan of William S. Burroughs, especially of his early novels before rampant experimentation took over, I thought one of the best news stories of 2010 was the fact that The Messenger and Rampart writer/director Oren Moverman had scripted an adaptation of Burroughs' early novel Queer and that Steve Buscemi would produce and direct [1]. Readings of that script have taken place here and there, but we've heard almost nothing about Queer since Moverman started working in earnest on Rampart. With that film finished, earning serious early praise and being set for an Oscar qualifying run late this year and full release in early 2012, news on Queer is starting to surface once more. In short, the Moverman script is still in use, and Buscemi is still directing. Even better, a recent post-Rampart screening Q&A with Moverman revealed that Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Kelly MacDonald are...

According to screenwriter Oren Moverman, his scripted adaptation of William S. Burroughs novel Queer may become a reality. Vulture reports that Moverman revealed that the film has Guy Pearce, Ben Foster, and Kelly MacDonald attached to star for director Steve Buscemi.
Here is what he had to say about the project:
"Steve is one of the first people I worked with in the film business, and he's a great director. I love him as a director. Queer was written with Junkie, which was the first Burroughs book, but it was never published because the publisher said, you know, 'I've got Junkie, you want to put Queer in there? How far can I push this thing?. So it wasn't published until 1984. It was written in 1952. And once it was published, it was really the story of William S. Burroughs kind of discovering himself as a writer by being obsessed with this boy.

It's been a while since New York's most famous firefighter Steve Buscemi directed a full-length flick, but his next project sounds like a doozy.
A few years ago, Buscemi took part in a staged reading of writer-director Oren Moverman's script for an adaptation of the William S. Burroughs short novel "Queer." According to Moverman, whose next movie "Rampart" stars Woody Harrelson as a troubled cop, Buscemi will direct "Queer," and Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Kelly Macdonald are attached to star. (Foster and Harrelson costar in Moverman's fantastic directorial debut, "The Messenger.")
Uncle Bill's novel "Naked Lunch" was successfully adapted by David Cronenberg for the 1992 movie starring Peter Weller, but his aren't typically books that lend themselves easily to a typical movie narrative. "Naked Lunch" and later novels employed the cut-up technique, a method made popular by writer and artist Brion Gysin where one literally cuts up the text and rearranges it.

Through decades of performances given for some of our greatest living filmmakers, we all know Steve Buscemi can act. He’s also done a little directing here and there, much of it in TV, but how would he fare with a prestigious cast and the adaptation of a legendary author? We’ll find out soon; Vulture reports that the actor will direct Guy Pearce, Ben Foster, and his Boardwalk Empire co-star, Kelly Macdonald, in an adaptation of William S. Burroughs‘ Queer. The Messenger and Rampart director Oren Moverman spilled details on the adaptation, which he wrote the script for ten years ago.
He described the proceedings as “William S. Burroughs kind of discovering himself as a writer,” all of which was “happening at the same time [...] where [Burroughs] killed his wife, you know, during the whole famous William Tell routine.” Moverman said that this event is “sort of the incident that...
