Creating the magical world of "Harry Potter" was a massive undertaking when the film franchise kicked off in 2001 with the very first movie, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (or, if you don't live in the United States, "Philosopher's Stone"). Warner Bros. and the creative team behind the movies were tasked with bringing Harry's journey at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to life — and his entire discovery of the magical world in general — and overall, they did a pretty great job! With young actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson in the lead roles as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger, all of whom were flanked by incredible British actors like the late Alan Rickman and Dame Maggie Smith, and picked up cameras in the United Kingdom to create these magical movies.

Harry Potter is one of the most tragic characters in his own franchise. The poor lad has experienced the deaths of several loved ones throughout the fantasy series, including his own parents. Lily and James Potter were brutally murdered at the hands of Lord Voldemort, leaving Harry an orphan child. Living with the Dursleys at Privet Drive is a miserable experience for Harry, and Hogwarts offers him a place he can call home. Still, one of the major factors behind Harry's undying love for Hogwarts is Professor McGonagall.

Adam Sandler's 2015 sci-fi comedy movie Pixels will soon have a new streaming home. It will be available on Netflix starting April 11.
Pixels was directed by legendary filmmaker Chris Columbus. Sandler stars as Sam Brenner, a former arcade video game champion who unites with other players to save the world from an alien attack. When the aliens misinterpret video footage of classic video games as a declaration of war, they use the games as blueprints for their invasion, leading President Will Cooper (Kevin James) to recruit Sam to engage the aliens in an all-out battle where the fate of the planet is at stake.
Pixels was inspired by Patrick Jean's 2010 short film, and Jean served as an executive producer on the film. The story drew on the nostalgia factor of classic retro arcade games, with Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Space Invaders being licensed for the film. Pixels was released...

Superfan Robin Williams seemed to have all the credentials to land a part in the Harry Potter series of film adaptations. As an actor, he’d mastered both comedy and drama, winning an Academy Award for his efforts. He was bankable, with several blockbusters under his belt. And he had an in on the first movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone — he was buddies with director Chris Columbus, with whom he’d made the hit comedies Mrs. Doubtfire and Bicentennial Man.
“There were a couple of parts I would have wanted to play,” the comedian once admitted. He pitched himself to play Hagrid in the original film, according to Far Out, a part that went to Robbie Coltrane. After missing out on that role, he tried again to land the character of Remus Lupin in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Fans of the series know that part was played by David Thewlis.

I get it. Adaptations are hard. Turning a hit book into a movie is tricky, especially when the books in question — in this case, the "Harry Potter" series — are very, very long. The longest "Potter" book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," contains a whopping 870 pages in its US hardcover edition, so obviously not every single detail is bound to make it during the adaptation process. Still, the "Harry Potter" film franchise, which spanned eight movies, left a lot behind, and some of it is pretty important!
There are actually a whole bunch of "Harry Potter" plotlines and characters that didn't make it from the books to the movies, but here I'm going to try and note some of the most important ones.
As Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) learn magic at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, they meet a lot of people.

While the early Harry Potterbooks are largely boarding-school mysteries, there are a lot of action scenes throughout. With the Second Wizarding War beginning at the end of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the series began to feature more fight scenes between Harry, his friends, and the Order of the Phoenix against the evil Lord Voldemort and his army of Death Eaters.
While the Harry Potter films did mostly a good job at adapting the seven books, including the fight scenes, there are several differences between the film's portrayal and what was described in the novels.

Popular! “Wicked” is already popular, having grossed nearly $740 million in worldwide box office. But as the film based on the hit Broadway musical premieres on Peacock this weekend, NBCUniversal’s marketing team has organized a corporate-wide campaign to make sure this “Wicked” window is as pop-you-lar as its theatrical run.
The arrival of “Wicked” on Peacock on Friday, March 21, is the culmination of what NBCU has dubbed “Wicked Week” to generate awareness of its availability on the streamer. On Peacock, that has included a “Wicked-fied” version of its logo, as well as character profile avatars and “affinity rails” that places “Wicked” inside specially tailored genres like “Unusually & Exceedingly Peculiar” and “Magical & Mystical Worlds”.
Also, a “mystery tile stunt” on Peacock last week featured images of Elphaba and Glinda holding hands, strategically placed between tiles for other TV shows and films.

Warner Bros. is on a mission to revitalize the Harry Potter franchise through a TV adaptation. Rather than being limited by the relatively short timeframe of a movie, each book can be adapted into an entire season of television. Max is bringing Harry Potter back with a new cast, fresh vision, and decade-long plan.
For me, reading the “Harry Potter” series as a kid kicked off my life-long love for books and storytelling. And when “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” came out in 2001, I was 12 — about the same age as Harry Potter himself when he goes to Hogwarts. And so, it feels like I literally grew up alongside these characters. These movies are magical in every sense of the word - getting darker as the kids grow older and masterfully building to an epic climax of good vs. evil. It’s hard to imagine our world without “Harry Potter.” Now, Max is bringing adventure to the small screen with a decade-long TV series that promises to take us deeper into the wizarding world than ever before. This may not come as a huge surprise, but it turns out that the "Harry Potter" movies are remarkably popular. To clarify, despite the fact that the first movie based on J.K. To that end, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," aka "The Philosopher's Stone" outside of the U.S., was one of the most popular streaming titles in 2024.

In the summer of 1997, United Kingdom readers perused through their local bookshops. The debut novel from author J.K. Rowling adorned shelves, with its cover artwork featuring a young boy with a peculiar lightning-shaped scar on his forehead and messy black hair, donning John Lennon-esque circular spectacles and a black cloak over a white dress shirt with a red and gold scarf around his neck, all while curiously anticipating the arrival of a train with the sign "Hogwarts Express" on the front. Two questions immediately come to mind: "Who is Harry Potter?" and "What is the Philosopher's Stone?"
Nearly 30 years later, it's safe to say that those U.K. readers fell in love with Harry Potter and the Wizarding World. Little did they know that Harry would become inarguably the most popular protagonist in children's literature of the 21st century, spawning seven books, 11 feature films, a play on the West End and Broadway,...

Magic has many faces, and so does its most famous name. Across seven books, eight films, a spinoff series, and an upcoming TV adaptation, Harry Potter has become a global phenomenon. The Philosopher’s Stone: A Title With Deep Roots
Jk Rowling’s debut novel, published in the UK in 1997, introduced readers to a boy who lived, a castle of wonders, and a stone with legendary powers. It was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, a title deeply rooted in the lore of alchemy, where the mythical stone was said to transform metals into gold and grant eternal life.
To British readers, this connection was clear but to American publishers, however, it posed a dilemma.

With only one character officially confirmed, John Lithgow as Professor Albus Dumbledore, and two more in negotiations, Janet McTeer as Professor Minerva McGonagall, and Paapa Essiedu as Professor Severus Snape, the anticipation is growing. Many original stars, including lead actor Daniel Radcliffe, have teased that they will not be a part of the new series, but others have shown an interest in coming back. One of them is Hero Fiennes-Tiffin, who told Us Weekly he'd love to play "any character" in the upcoming series.

Harry Potter is still a beloved franchise today, well over ten years after the original film series concluded. With some of the most iconic characters in cinema history, the series introduced audiences across the globe to a world of magic the likes of which had never been seen before. Along with all the incredible sets and special effects, came some truly amazing pieces of dialogue that would stand the test of time, becoming memes or words of affirmation over a decade later.
To love these movies is to open one's heart to the idea that magic can be found even in the simplest joys of life. Some of Harry Potter's best quotes reflect this, finding incredible meaning or power, whether it be to uplift the viewer or to shatter their heart. The question then is which lines from each movie were the best? Depending on the fan, it will be a different answer.

HBO's upcoming Harry Potter reboot is one of the most anticipated projects. With an already established fanbase, the series comes with a lot of pressure in terms of casting, storytelling, and universe.
With a premiere date tentatively set for 2026, HBO hasn't revealed any details about the upcoming project. The only known details were Warner Bros. Discovery's pledge for a more accurate depiction of the seven novels in J.K. Rowling's original Harry Potter series, and that critically acclaimed actor John Lithgow will be the new Professor Albus Dumbledore. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the series has received a disappointing update for the movie fans.
Speaking whether the new series will feature any of the original actors, Warner Bros. Discovery's IP exec Sarah Aubrey revealed the executives are looking at new, fresh talent, instead of casting some of the original actors.

Hollywood can be a cruel and grueling industry that uses the glaring spotlight of fame, wealth, and celebrity to blind people to the fact that its so-called stars are human, too. Actors like Emma Watson and Millie Bobby Brown have been repeatedly forced under the microscopic scrutiny of tabloids and paparazzi, mostly for clickbait headlines, and they have both called the media out on it.

While social media makes it much more accessible for the public to keep an eye on their favorite stars all over the world, the relentless harassment of the media makes it difficult for stars to keep their cool. From dissecting and over-analyzing their physicality, looks, mannerisms in public, and speech patterns, the media has made it their business to intrude upon every personal aspect of actors’ lives even beyond what is deemed appropriate.

John Lithgow is the first star confirmed for HBO's Harry Potter TV series, in which he'll play Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore. While Lithgow is excited to take the baton from the late Michael Gambon, the legendary actor had some reservations about the reboot at first. "My first question is, 'Do we really need this?' There have been wonderful Harry Potter films and books," Lithgow tells MovieWeb, "And people know the books by heart."
While it's been close to 14 years since the final installment in the Harry Potter film franchise, many fans wondered if HBO's new reboot was necessary. The legendary Harry Potterfantasy series depicts a world within a world where witches and wizards live in secret among non-magical folk around the globe. All wizards and witches are united by their affinity for magic and their knowledge of wizarding history, but a few are simply more talented or better educated than others. Meanwhile, some wizards never rise above mediocrity.
Then again, certain witches and wizards in Harry Potter have become truly powerful either through innate talent, tireless study, or real-life experience with magical combat. The wizarding world is home to many powerful witches, some even more powerful than Harry Potter himself. Strong female characters are an important representation in any work of literature and film, and Harry Potter features its fair share of powerful witches.

If you're a longtime fan of the "Harry Potter" books, I'm gonna need you to name all of Harry's major physical characteristics ... which should be an easy ask, because series author Joanne Kathleen Rowling (who styles her name as J.K. Rowling) is constantly talking about them. He has very dark black hair, a lightning bolt scar on his forehead, wears round glasses, is relatively skinny and gawky, and he has green eyes. That last thing is really, really important; Harry's eyes, which look just like those of his late mother Lily Potter, are vital to the overall story. So why does Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter in the film franchise that came out between 2001 and 2011, have obviously blue eyes throughout the popular movies?

Portraying the misguided, villainous aristocratic Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter saga introduced Jason Isaacs to a global audience 20 years ago. However, being recognized as one of the franchise’s memorable antagonists means that fan interactions come in many shapes and sizes, as the actor recently relayed in an interview with The Telegraph.
Despite his dubiously-intentioned role in the story of Harry Potter, Lucius Malfoy and his family don’t quite end the story as complete bad guys and gain some kind of redemptive moment as the Battle of Hogwarts reaches its crescendo – albeit as a pack of cowards high-tailing it away from the chaos. For Isaacs, though, even the villains of a story draw a crowd when out in public, which can lead to some peculiar moments when one has to wonder if they are still in some kind of heightened fantasy version of reality that the movies take place in.

The 2000s and early 2010s were marked with a boon of young adult books getting adapted into the big screen. This could really be seen as starting with the runaway success of 2001's "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" adaptation and its subsequent sequels. However, 2008's "Twilight" movie took things to another level, prompting studios to adapt pretty much any book that preteens were obsessed with. Some of these failed to launch, while others became cemented into the public consciousness, like "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games." but "The Maze Runner" series absolutely belongs in that latter category too.
Out of all the films to come out during the YA craze, "The Maze Runner" had the biggest bang for its buck, grossing $348 million against a relatively paltry $34 million budget. Two film sequels followed with "The Scorch Trials" and "The Death Cure," but it all began with that first story about a...

Warwick Davis has been working in the film industry since the age of 11, the same age students go to Hogwarts in Harry Potter. The actor played several characters not only in the Wizarding World but also in Star Wars.

Daisy Ridley may have grown up a huge Harry Potter fan, but she has no desire to take on a role in the forthcoming television series adaptation. And before you assume her rationale has anything to do with the controversies surrounding the franchise's creator, J.K. Rowling, think again. It's merely because she is such a big fan that she believes "the pressure" would be too intimidating to overcome.
In a quote the actress gave at a screening for her new film Cleaner, Ridley was quite direct about the reasons as to why she never even considered trying to be cast in the production:
"I haven't asked to be a part of it because, honestly, I am so… Those performances are so phenomenal that I feelit would be so terrifying to take on one of those roles. Just, I mean… a huge commitment of time, but really it's just, I just love the films.

When the first "Harry Potter" film released in 2001, director Chris Columbus, then best known for "Home Alone," introduced the word to Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson as Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger and placed them in the wizarding world beloved by fans of the book series. So why did Columbus direct the first movie, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (or "Philosopher's Stone" if you're outside of the United States), follow it up with "Chamber of Secrets," and then leave the franchise as a director? Put simply, the guy was really tired.
In a retrospective with The Hollywood Reporter in 2021 celebrating 20 years of the "Harry Potter" film franchise, Columbus explained that both "Sorcerer's Stone" and "Chamber of Secrets" had incredibly arduous shooting schedules. "'Sorcerer's Stone' took 160 days of shooting, which is ridiculously long," Columbus recalled. "And then, immediately after we stopped shooting, we started shooting 'Chamber of Secrets,...
