What in the po-ta-toes? Could it be true that someone other than Sean Astin could have played the part of Samwise Gamgee in The Lord of the Rings trilogy? According to '80s heartthrob Corey Feldman, the answer is a resounding "yes!" Astin took on the role of Frodo's faithful friend in 2001's The Fellowship of the Rings, and it's a part he'd play for the next three years until the saga's conclusion in The Return of the King. However, if you believe what Feldman has to say, things could have looked a lot different.
Appearing on Billy Corgan's The Magnificent Others podcast to discuss his career, the subject of some of the roles Feldman missed out on over the years came up. It was then that The Goonies star revealed that he auditioned for Samwise Gamgee, heard he was "close" to getting it, but then was upstaged...

Britney Spears’ best selling memoir The Woman In Me is heading to the big screen courtesy of Wicked director Jon M Chu.
In 2022, pop sensation Britney Spears signed what was reportedly one of the biggest publishing deals in history, snagging $15 million for her memoir The Woman In Me, which became a best seller.
According to Deadline, the book’s rights have been snapped up by Universal Pictures, who are in talks with Jon M Chu to direct a film adaptation.
Given the amount of music that will be in the film, Chu is a strong choice. He’s helmed both parts of Wicked, the long awaited film adaptation of Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman’s Broadway play, which stars Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh. Wicked: Part One arrives in UK cinemas on the 22nd November.

Dustin Diamond, the actor who portrayed lovable nerd Samuel “Screech” Powers across four incarnations of Saved by the Bell, from 1988 to 2000, died Monday after a three-week battle with carcinoma. He was 44. Diamond’s agent, Roger Paul, confirmed the actor’s death to Rolling Stone.
“He was diagnosed with this brutal, relentless form of malignant cancer only three weeks ago,” Paul said in a statement. “In that time, it managed to spread rapidly throughout his system; the only mercy it exhibited was its sharp and swift execution. Dustin did not suffer.

While actor and comedian Pauly Shore is best known to audiences for mid-’90s comedy hits like “Encino Man,” “Bio Dome,” and “Son in Law,” the poofy-haired funny man has also spent the past few years dabbling in directing. In 2003, he released the strange comedy “Pauly Shore Is Dead,” in which he ostensibly faked his own death (for fun?), followed by 2009’s frankly hard to explain documentary “Adopted.” Next up: a dark, unhinged short film in which Shore also stars as a serial killer.
In “Sin City Psycho,” Shore plays Donavan, who is (per the short’s official synopsis), “driven to madness … [he] preys on Sin City’s unfaithful flock by tangling them into a web of torture where broken vows could mean broken bones. Along with his sister Ione, this deranged vigilante justifies the horrors in his wake with the illusions in his head and shows those willing to cheat...

Netflix has released the first trailer and photo for The Week Of, which reunites comedy superstars Adam Sandler and Chris Rock. This movie marks their sixth collaboration together, following 2003's Pauly Shore is Dead, 2005's The Longest Yard remake, 2008's You Don't Mess With the Zohan, 2010's Grown Ups and 2013's Grown Ups 2. This movie also marks the fourth of Adam Sandler's original four-movie deal with Netflix that he signed back in 2014, following The Ridiculous Six, The Do-Over and Sandy Wexler.
This Netflix comedy won't be the end of their deal with Adam Sandler, though, with the comedian signing on for four more movies with Netflix. The streaming service claimed in a statement from last March that the first two movies of their Adam Sandler deal, the ensemble Western comedy The Ridiculous Six and the action-comedy The Do-Over, which reunited Sandler and David Spade, were the "biggest film releases" for Netflix,...

Pop culture comes to life in St. Louis next month! It’s the Wizard World Comic Con May 22nd through the 24th at America’s Center downtown (701 Convention Plaza – St. Louis, Mo 63101), and boy oh boy, do they have an amazing line-up of guests!
Sure, you got the comic artists and cosplayers, wrestlers, a St. Louis Ram, a Power Ranger, and of course the ubiquitous Walking Dead stars, but what We Are Movie Geeks is most excited about are the celebrities from movies that will be on hand: Horror legend George Romero, Sharknado legend Tara Reid, horror hostess with the mostest (if you know what I mean) Elvira, Guardians Of The Galaxy tough guy Dave Bautista, Henry the serial killer himself Michael Rooker, Do The Right Thing’s ‘Buggin Out’ Giancarlo Esposito. Lord of the Rings Trilogy’s Pippin Billy Boyd, Captain America squeeze Hayley Atwell, and Silent Bob’s buddy Jay aka Jason Mewes.

It sounds like a joke: a serious documentary about Pauly Shore‘s late-in-life (and probably late-in-career) struggles, from money to fame to family to love. We’ve seen this before, right? It was called Pauly Shore Is Dead and it’s over ten years old and it was totally, totally fake. Not this time around. Pauly Shore Stands Alone is the film that Shore probably should have made in place of Pauly Shore Is Dead, though it stands to reason that, a decade ago, Shore might not have been nearly as ready to peel back the layers of his life and take a hard look at what he found underneath. (After all, Pauly Shore Is Dead is all about the comedian trying to recapture his life by pretending to be dead, which isn’t exactly a mature response to anything.) This latest doc, directed by Shore (hey, who knows the guy better), had a strong showing at...

Exclusive: Showtime has picked up Pauly Shore’s revealing road documentary Pauly Shore Stands Alone and slated it to air December 4. The feature-length film directed by and starring Shore tracks the popular ’90s actor and comedian as he embarks on a stand-up tour across the Midwest while grappling with aging, fading fame and his relationship with his mother, Comedy Store founder Mitzi Shore, who has Parkinson’s. Unlike his 2003 directing debut Pauly Shore Is Dead, the new documentary peels back the curtain on the raw, more serious side of Shore’s life on the road. (Watch the trailer above.)
“A lot of these people don’t know that ‘Son-In-Law’ grew up among comics like Sam Kinison,” Shore told me from his latest stand-up stop in Orlando. “The tour was booked, and I was going through a peculiar time. I was happy on the road as opposed to being home,...

Pauly Shore was always a clown, but in his new documentary, Pauly Shore Stands Alone, he’s officially the crying-on-the-inside type of clown. Now 45 and more than a decade removed from a mockumentary about his dwindling popularity titled Pauly Shore is Dead, he’s still on the road, playing small comedy clubs in the Midwest as he struggles to remain relevant and maintain deteriorating relationships with his family. He frequents strip clubs, hangs with groupies, and struggles with the frequent reminders that he isn’t as famous as he used to be.

Before MTV became a breeding ground for fist pumpers and troublesome teen moms, it actually played music videos. And today, we're paying tribute to the people who introduced them: The MTV VJ.In honor of Pauly Shore's 45th birthday, we decided to see how all the VJs of the '80s and '90s have aged through the years.Pauly definitely looks a lot different than his days as The Weasel. Long gone is that long curly hair and his crazy Steven Tyler-esque styling. After leaving MTV, he found acting success in a string of comedies after his days on MTV -- starring in flicks like "Son-In-Law," "Bio-Dome" and "In the Army Now."After that he made a mockumentary called "Pauly Shore Is Dead" and can most recently be seen in Internet videos on Funny or Die and YouTube. He's also currently on tour doing standup. How have...

Straight-to-dvd is known as the last stop on the gravy train before the end of a fading star's career. And there's definitely some truth to that. But it can also be a low-risk, high-reward place to restart a career, where you can throw away the stuff that hasn't been working and trying something new. Budgets and stakes may be lower, but so are expectations.
The Dtv landscape is full of untapped opportunities and I give Pauly Shore credit for being one of the first guys I've come across in this column who's clearly taking advantage of that. Completely dismissed by critics (Roger Ebert once compared him to "the cinematic equivalent of long fingernails drawn very slowly and quite loudly over a gigantic blackboard"), reduced to a punchline in the mainstream, the former MTV DJ and movie star has reinvented himself in straight-to-dvd land as "Pauly Shore," the star of self-deprecating...

Pauly Shore is back at it and, as with his previous mockumentary, Pauly Shore is Dead, still on a quest to see if there's life after the Weasel. In the similarly self-directed Adopted -- which is being released on home video on June 15th -- Pauly follows in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Madonna, travelling to South Africa to snag himself one of those highly coveted, third-world orphans. If that doesn't sound to you like a particularly good idea, well, you'd be right: The film puts the comedian on a fast-track to international incident, showing him blundering through the adoption process by, amongst other faux pas, greeting one kid Jacko-style in facemask and rubber gloves, abandoning another on a mountaintop in order to chase after a hot local and, most death-defying of all, baiting the most fearsome of world...

The popular stand-up comic leaves Hollywood for Africa in this hilarious DVD out June 15th
Pauly Shore has weased through his fair share of ups and downs as a Hollywood celebrity over the course of the past two decades. After a string of moderately successful comedies in the early 90s, the stand-up comic seemed destined for obscurity and life as a nothing more than a Trivial Pursuit question. Restless and tired of waiting for that comeback phone call to come in, Pauly put it all on the line by faking his own death, and then recounting the consequences in 2004's Pauly Shore is Dead. Self-financed and produced Diy-style, Shore created an instant cult classic and found a new life for himself in front of the camera. Which has led to a fan favorite stint on the popular HBO series Entourage and a lead role in the upcoming Disney film Opposite Day.

It's been two decades since comedian Pauly Shore first turned up on the beach to host MTV's Spring Break parties, and whether you're tickled or annoyed by his goofy antics from Encino Man and Bio-Dome, his character "The Weasel" has, fittingly, weaseled its way into pop culture history. Personally, I gained respect for the guy once he became a filmmaker with his ballsy, scathingly self-critical debut Pauly Shore Is Dead, so I couldn't pass up the chance to talk to Shore, again in the director's chair for the new mockumentary Adopted, coming to DVD on June 15:
Adopted is a comedy that explores the lengths to which Pauly Shore will go to adopt a child during a trip to Africa. Practicing fatherhood by taking a variety of "orphans" on day-trips, Pauly believes that he can leave his playboy past behind for good and start an instant family, as many other stars have done.
