Avis à la une
I watched this because Kristi Yamaguchi was in it. I follow figure skating fairly closely and enjoy skating myself when my health permits.
I found the story entertaining and fulfilling, but the movie is full of inaccuracies as far as the world of figure skating goes at least as far as I have seen things myself. Although Tanya Harding's actions brought the world's attention to figure skating, she is an anomaly. Figure skaters do not generally try to hinder their competition, at least not so blatantly. Rather there is quite bit of camaraderie among skaters.
The national competition is a several-day event. Each skater must skate at least two programmes. This is done on different days. I'm not familiar with the schedules for school hockey, so I don't know when their championship would take place. The national skating championship typically takes place in January. They take place at a large public arena, not a small rink like the one used in the movie.
I was also somewhat incredulous that when the skater showed up all covered in paint someone didn't ask "What happened to you?"
Enjoy the movie but don't base your ideas about the world of figure skating on it.

i fought that the film was brilliant! but as said it did av a few bits where it did seem v. obvious that she was acting. i think that Jordan Hinson did a v. good job but Jake Abel was so cute an that made the film even more brilliant! i love it an can't wait 4 it 2 b out on DVD!!! yea!!! Jake Abel is so hot!!! if i had to watch this film over and over again i would because this film is a very good film and i believe that anyone from the ages of 5 to 16 would find this film very good. i admit it can be a bit tedious but that is all forgotten if you watch the film with open eyes and an open mind. please don't say that this is a very bad film because truthfully you probably haven't seen the whole of the film. don't dis the film!!!
Katelin Kingsford, an Olympic hopeful figure skater wants to train with a Russian figure skating coach. In order to go to the school that Natasha is at, Katelin gets a scholarship playing on the girls hockey team.
Watching a sequence of cute Disney movies, watching the second one about women's ice skating, another one of those about teen resilience with cute messages at the end, I have a soft spot for those water with sugar films from the early 2000s... It doesn't subtract anything, although they add in short, they are nice to pass the time... Extremely forced ending, and female rivalry still bothers me in these films... Cute and simple...

This is not an Academy Award nominee, but it was an enjoyable movie that I could watch with my kids. While I admit that the main actress' tears were not great (I thought that part was forced myself), I basically enjoyed the movie, so much that, because I had missed the very beginning the first time around, I watched the whole movie all over again to see how it began. It was an enjoyable escapist movie that we could all get into. Plus I love figure skating. I especially liked that the brother and sister could finally "play together nice." OK, I'm a mom, but still I thought this was a nice flick. Given that it's a kid's movie, there wasn't any blood and guts, but there was nice tension and an interesting choice for the main character to make. Various parts of it also made me laugh remembering the movie "The Cutting Edge." Toe Pick!!!
Though I found this movie very cute and had a good story line... it totally distorted what figure skating is all about. Many people think that figure skating is a independent sport which it is as you are not on a team but skaters tend to encourage each help each other and give others tips to succeed when they share ice time. There may be enemies between people but it's like that with every sport. The image they portray about the competition, coaches and friendships between figure skaters is simply inaccurate.
