The perfect platformer

This game is perfect to me, the gameplay is amazing, the music rocks, all of the enemies have so many unique designs, but the story isn't really there but that is because of the limitations of the console.

Anecdotes
When the game was still in production, Nintendo Power published some mid-production photos of the introduction stage at the beginning of the game. These photos featured a futuristic cityscape background that was not in the final version of the game, as well as enemies not from the intro stage.

Mega Man X: [after fighting Vile and getting shot by a stun blaster. Vile's robot suit walks up and uses his robot arm and grabs Mega Man X] You worthless piece of scrap metal, did you think you could destroy me?
Mega Man X: [Then Zero fires his blaster gun and blows off the robot arm of Vile. Zero then appears onscreen and charges his blaster and fires again but misses and Vile jumps up in his airship and gets away] I guess I'm not powerful enough to defeat him...
Zero: X, you shouldn't expect to defeat him, he is designed to be a war machine. Remember, you have not reached full power yet. If you use all the abilities you were designed with, you should become stronger... You may even become as powerful as I am.
