Mike Flanagan has his hands full with Stephen King adaptations between his upcoming movie The Life of Chuck and the two he has in development: Carrie and The Dark Tower. We don't have much new info about The Dark Tower yet, but a new exclusive from Variety suggests casting has found its Carrie White in Child's Play star Summer H. Howell.
The outlet says a deal is close to being finalized, though none of the people directly involved have responded to requests for comment.
Flanagan's take on Carrie has been in development since October 2024. Amazon hasn't formally ordered the show into a series, but if Howell is cast, then an official pickup is likely to follow. The series is based on King's iconic 1974 novel, most famously adapted for the Oscar-nominated 1976 movie starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

BBC Sets Feature On Fire At Bradford Soccer Match
The BBC is making a feature doc about a tragic fire at a Bradford soccer match that preceded the Hillsborough disaster. On the 40th anniversary of the tragedy, the BBC said Unforgotten: The Bradford City Fire (working title) will provide “the definitive record of a forgotten tragedy, as told through the compelling personal testimony of those who were there, many of whom speak here for the first time.” The fire is believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette or match at half time of Bradford City’s game with Lincoln City in 1985. The number of lives lost reached 56 and the event made headlines around the world but has since been somewhat forgotten, overshadowed by the Hillsborough disaster that took place four years later. Simon Young, BBC Head of Commissioning, History, said: “This film gets at the heart of a modern dilemma.

Since it premiered in 2019, "Sex Education" has solidified itself as one of the sweetest and purest shows on TV, despite its focus on a slate of sex-obsessed teenagers. This marvelous feat and the show's overall success has many fans wondering why it was canceled after four seasons.

Young stars ignite creative steam in All Fun and Games, the new horror thriller from writer/directors Eren Celeboglu, Ari Costa, and the Russo brothers’ (of MCU acclaim) Agbo enterprise. Asa Butterfield and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth of Sex Education and Son of a Critch, respectively, chuck the good boy image aside — a bit — in All Fun and Games, while Ms. Marvel’s Laurel Marsden and Natalia Dyer of Stranger Things attempt to be the grounded forces of good in this twisty thrill fest.

Salem, Massachusetts is an underused setting in horror, but that’s because it’s a bit too on the nose. Even so, the horror film All Fun and Games squarely places its sinister story in a city famous for historical persecution. Rather than a coven of witches running around and roasting modern teens, though, the film dishes out a nasty case of demon possession. And, as the title suggests, games will be played. Unfortunately for the characters, there will be no winners, only survivors.
It’s clear that a lot of planning went into the lore of All Fun and Games. Eren Celeboglu and Ari Costa and their co-writer J.J. Braider are not simply unleashing a demon without cause or explanation. No, Celeboglu and Costa’s feature directorial debut, which was produced by the Russo Brothers’ company Agbo, packs plenty of exposition in a relatively short film. With only about...

All Fun and Games is a horror movie centered around a trio of siblings who become targets of a demonic force after finding an old knife. The movie draws inspiration from Amblin films and focuses on authentic portrayals of sibling dynamics and teenage relationships. The directors emphasized the importance of casting the perfect trio of stars and crafting the visual style of the film, which combines dark, brooding elements with pops of color.

You know the saying: "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt." It's something parents used to tell us when we were kids and roughhoused too hard, but in the context of the upcoming horror thriller "All Fun and Games," the adage sounds more like a promise than a warning. The film follows a group of teens whose night of fun turns very high stakes when a demon gets involved, forcing them to play life-or-death versions of the kids' games that many of us love. Fan-favorite actors like Natalia Dyer and Asa Butterfield are among the cast, and the Russo brothers' production company is on board.
In a press release, Vertical Partner Peter Jarowey called the movie "a gripping debut film based on a high concept idea that caught, and held, our attention immediately." There's no trailer or "All Fun and Games" yet, but the movie does have a...

After four decades, John Carpenter and Keith David have reunited. An image of the reunion was shared to social media by David, who previously appeared in two of Carpenter's most beloved films. Following his role as Childs in 1982's The Thing, David would later co-star with the late "Rowdy" Roddy Piper in 1988's They Live. The two haven't collaborated since, and as noted by David in a tweet sharing the image, it's the first time the two have seen each other for close to 40 years.
Using the hashtags #TheThing and #TheyLive, David wrote in the tweet, "So great to see my friend, [John Carpenter]! I think it’s been 40 years since we last connected in-person!"

As the Berlinale trundles on, the usual joie de vivre of a pre-pandemic film festival is in short supply, and dealmaking out of the virtual European Film Market has felt lopsided.
Sony’s $60 million deal for Tom Hanks’ “A Man Called Otto,” an adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s bestselling Swedish-language novel “A Man Called Ove” — which was made into an Oscar-nominated Swedish feature — grabbed headlines early on (Variety understands it boiled down to a bidding war between the studio and Apple), but hasn’t necessarily spawned the usual flurry of deals from Berlin halfway through the festival.
One buyer from a major U.K. distributor says the EFM vibe has felt “muted” for a company of its size, with an absence of broad-appeal product available once “Otto” was snapped up by Sony. “The lack of mainstream commercial packages is frustrating, and only puts more pressure on Cannes needing to deliver something big for all,...

British auteur Peter Strickland is back with his fifth feature, “Flux Gourmet,” and it is as striking and uncompromising as his previous body of work, which includes “In Fabric” (2018), “The Duke of Burgundy” (2014), “Berberian Sound Studio” (2012) and “Katalin Varga” (2009). “Flux Gourmet” world premieres at the Berlin Film Festival’s Encounters strand on Feb. 11.
The film follows a sonic collective trio with rocky interpersonal dynamics, who take up residency at an institute devoted to culinary and alimentary performance and have to answer to the institute’s head, who has her own opinions about their work. Their chronicler, meanwhile, is dealing with stomach problems.
“Flux Gourmet” began life as Strickland was completing “In Fabric” when a producer offered him the opportunity of making anything he wanted, provided the budget was under £1 million ($1.3 million). “When I showed them the script, they ran a mile,” Strickland told Variety. “They said, ‘Do whatever you want,...
