Enthiran The Robot was the first Tamil film to have a production budget exceeding Inr 100 crore. Released in 2010, the film was a massive success and later had a sequel, 2.0, in 2018.

Recently, the Enforcement Directorate (Ed) attached ₹10 crore worth of immovable assets belonging to director S. Shankar. This action is linked to a plagiarism allegation against him concerning Enthiran. The complaint was filed by Aarur Tamilnadan, who claims that the film’s plot was copied from his story Jiguba, published in a Tamil magazine in April 1996.

Initially, a civil suit was filed against S. Shankar and producer Kalanithi Maran in 2011. More than a decade later, in 2023, the Madras High Court dismissed the case, ruling that an idea—such as robots developing human emotions—cannot be copyrighted.

“Game Changer it is!!!!,” Charan said, revealing the title of the film on his birthday, March 27.

Indian star Ram Charan is revelling in the success of S.S. Rajamouli’s period action drama “Rrr” (“Rise Roar Revolt”). The film released March 25 worldwide and scored a 65 million opening weekend, debuting in third place in the U.S. and second in the U.K. and Ireland.

Produced on budget of approximately 73 million by D. V. V. Danayya, “Rrr” is a lavish, rambunctious entertainer crammed with eye-popping set pieces and death-defying stunts. Set in the 1920s, the historical fiction story by Vijayendra Prasad and Rajamouli see Indian freedom fighters Alluri Sitarama Raju (Ram Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Ntr Jr) meet and become fast friends. Their common enemies are the occupying colonial British. The cast also includes Bollywood A-listers Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt.

Konidela Ram Charan Teja, popularly known as Ram Charan, one of the biggest stars of India’s Telugu-language film industry, is in the privileged position of working with three giants.

Ram Charan is the son of megastar Chiranjeevi and is sharing screen space with him in Koratala Siva’s “Acharya,” due a Feb. 4, 2022 release. He is currently filming a project identified as “RC15,” directed by Shankar Shanmugam, known for his big-budget extravaganzas including “Sivaji,” “Enthiran” (aka “Robot”) and “2.0,” all starring superstar Rajinikanth.

And, Ram Charan and Ntr Jr lead the cast of keenly anticipated blockbuster “Rrr,” directed by “Baahubali” filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, which is due a Jan. 7, 2022 release.

This new project starring Ranveer Singh is likely to begin filming around mid-2022. Less than a day after the announcement, the director has now received a letter from the Tamil film’s producer ‘Aascar' V Ravichandran of Aascar Film Private Limited who claims to have bought the full rights of the story from Tamil writer Sujatha. Ravichandran, in his letter, claims to hold the rights to the film’s storyline. “The entire story rights were purchased by me from the writer Sujatha (alias late Rangarajan) for which full payment was done by me to him and necessary records are also available. I am the whole and sole owner of the rights of the storyline.

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh and filmmaker S. Shankar are teaming for a Hindi-language remake of 2005 Tamil-language blockbuster “Anniyan.”

Shankar is known for his big-budget extravaganzas including “Sivaji” (2007), “Enthiran” (2010) and its sequel “2.0” (2018), all starring superstar Rajinikanth, and “Indian” (1996), starring actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan. The “Anniyan” remake “will be mounted on a gigantic cinematic canvas,” say the makers.

“Anniyan” features one of Shankar’s pet themes, that of an everyman taking the law into his own hands to fight a corrupt system. The original was dubbed into Hindi and released as ‘Aparichit” in 2006. It had the actor Vikram donning a variety of disguises and personalities, which suits Singh, known for his flamboyant personas including Sultan Alauddin Khilji in “Padmaavat” (2018) and Indian cricket captain Kapil Dev in the upcoming “83.”

Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, aka Rajinikanth, will be the recipient of India’s prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award this year. The prize recognizes lifetime contribution to cinema and is handed out by the Government of India.

Known for his work in Tamil cinema, Rajinikanth made his big screen debut in the 1975 drama Apoorva Raagangal, with his career blossoming through roles in films including box office smash Baashha and more recently the sci-fi Enthiran and its sequel 2.0. A documentary about his fan following, For the Love of a Man, premiered at Venice in 2015.

The actor had announced a move into politics in 2017 but since said he would no longer be pursuing that career path, citing ill health.

Upcoming, he has Annaatthe scheduled to release for the popular Diwali festival in November 2021.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was last handed out in 2018 to fellow superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
