Henry Cavill is, by all accounts, a big star with an enviable career. But there's always been a certain tinge of unfulfilled potential to his journey. The British actor was almost James Bond before Daniel Craig won the role for 2006's "Casino Royale." Then, when he did land the role of the Man of Steel in the now-defunct Dceu, Cavill proved to be a great Superman that never really got a great Superman movie. Then, after making a high-profile exit from Netflix's "The Witcher" in 2022, Cavill announced he was back as Superman, before it was confirmed that he was, in fact, not back as Superman.
Despite these missteps and misfortunes, it's not as if the actor has struggled for roles. Following his unfortunate Superman return that never was, Cavill announced that he's starring in and executive producing a "Warhammer 40,000" series for Amazon and is currently gearing up to...

Perhaps it’s because of his stunning bulky physique or his unparalleled acting and fighting chops, but Henry Cavill absolutely eats it up in the action genre. Over the years since his career started, he has depicted his combat excellence across multiple genres, be it adventure-comedy, mystery, superhero, or even fantasy. That said, he prefers to do most of his stunt scenes by himself as well.

The same was the case when he was working on his 2012 action-thriller The Cold Light of Day, which saw Cavill pulling off some really praise-worthy moves but still ended in the ditch as both critics and general audiences failed it. But that didn’t stop the actor from having a ball with the action sequences working with the stuntman while the director worried for his wellbeing.

Henry Cavill fans still have a lot of love for the Superman star, as his long-forgotten 2019 action movie Night Hunter (also known as Nomis) has stormed to the top of the Paramount+ global movie chart. While Cavill has been having a rough time of late - departing his popular roles in the old DC franchise and his Netflix fantasy role of Geralt in The Witcher, and seeing his subsequent roles in Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare die a slow death at the box office it seems that he can still come out on top when it comes to the world of streaming.
Night Hunter is a psychological action thriller directed by David Raymond, which sees Cavill taking on the role of a detective in the murky world of child predators, as part of a team looking to track down the man responsible for the kidnapping of the ward of a former judge.

Hollywood without Henry Cavill is something many cant or simply dont even want to think about anymore, but there certainly was a time when the actor wasnt a staple in the industry. Henry Cavills acting career started all the way back in 2001 when he first appeared on-screen in the thriller Laguna, which is also known under the title Vendetta. Despite entering the industry over two decades ago, it wasnt until 2007 that Cavill landed his breakout role. As one of the leading actors, he stepped into the role of Charles Brandon in the successful series The Tudors.
Acting alongside well-known names such as Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer or Outlanders Maria Doyle Kennedy, Cavill was on the right track to achieve fame.

Although Bruce Willis and Henry Cavill have found a lot of success in their respective careers, their 2012 collaboration The Cold Light of Day became one of the worst rated movies of both their expansive resumes. However, that has not stopped the 14-year-old movie from discovering a new audience on FreeVee
Many action movies have not exactly been darlings of the critics, as endless explosions, beatings, and clichd dialogue leave many believing they are not worthy of their time or praise. However, audiences are drawn to this kind of rinse-and-repeat template used in many action films, whether on the big screen with an all-star cast or in cheap VOD offerings. With a story of a dangerous conspiracy, a kidnapped family, shoot-outs, car chases and a tough-guy Bruce Willis performance, that is exactly the crowd that has now discovered The Cold Light of Day more than a decade since it faded from view.

Henry Cavill's recent box office struggles with spy movies, including the flop of "Argylle," may impact the success of "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." Cavill's track record in the spy genre hasn't been strong, with previous films like "The Cold Light of Day" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." also underperforming. Despite this trend, Cavill did find success with "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" by playing a villain, suggesting that the right role can make a difference.

Hello, everyone! This week’s Blu-ray and DVD offerings are quite an eclectic bunch, as we have a few recent titles coming out on Tuesday, but we also have a few classic horrors from Mexico finally getting a release, which is pretty darned cool. In terms of the newer horrors, Guillermo del Toro’s masterpiece Nightmare Alley is heading home to various formats, and if you missed it when it was airing, now you can finally catch up on the Dexter: New Blood revival this week as well. As mentioned, Indicator is showing some love to two classic horror movies from Mexico—La Llorona and The Phantom of the Monastery—on Blu-ray this week, and Richard Elfman’s Modern Vampires is getting the HD treatment, too.
Other home media titles coming home on March 22nd include 6:45, Blood Claws, Grave of the Living Dead, Bryan Loves You: Collector’s Edition,...

It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when Bruce Willis seemed to give up on trying anything interesting or exciting and decided to follow Nicolas Cage down the rabbit hole into the world of terrible VOD action movies, but the 65 year-old has certainly gone all-in, with his descent into mediocrity coinciding with the most prolific period of his entire career.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

The stars of yesterday now are making three films a year you never knew existed until they show up on Netflix.^ Real Movie ^
In my prior life as a script reader, I certainly read a lot of bad scripts, but at times, an even more common occurrence was a script that seemed to do a great many things right, but somehow fell just short of being something you wanted to champion as a movie. As draining as the terrible scripts were, there’s something pure about clear-cut bad. It takes little effort to explain why they’re unfit.
The real challenges were the scripts that had kind of a decent premise, kind of an okay twist or two, and a lead character who wasn’t bad so much as he or she was just… there. The raw materials are there for what Could be a script. They just happen to be assembled in the least compelling way...

Madrid-based sales agent Latido has scored key territory deals on Chavela, the documentary by Catherine Gund and Daresha Kyi which premiered at this week’s Berlin Film Festival in the Panorama strand.
The documentary about iconic Mexican singer Chavela Vargas has gone to Bodega Films in France and The Film Collaborative in the Us. A deal has been closed with Portugal (Leopardo Filmes), and Latido is reporting interest from Israel and Germany.
A bidding war is underway between two companies in Spain, which comes as no surprise considering the popularity of Chavela Vargas’ music in the country. Her songs are closely related to Pedro Almodóvar’s films and the director had personal involvement in the singer’s revival in the later years of her career.
Further titles on Latido’s line-up to have inked deals include Spanish war film Rescue Under Fire, which is set...

Like a movie from the world of Watchmen: cold, cruel, borderline incoherent in its testosterone-fueled rage, misogynist, paternalistic… fascist, even. I’m “biast” (pro): didn’t hate Man of Steel
I’m “biast” (con): nothing
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
I really liked Man of Steel, Zack Snyder’s 2013 reboot of Superman: I liked how it gave him soul and tragedy and inner conflict like we had never quite seen before in the character. (At least onscreen. I cannot claim to have in-depth knowledge of the character’s long and varied history in print.) The son of Krypton we saw there didn’t enjoy the powers he possessed, and he hesitated to wield them. If it seemed as if he went overboard in the end, finally acquiescing to use his strength and abilities to fight Zod — laying waste to much of Metropolis in...

Nothing but atmosphere, albeit atmosphere that is more effective and elegant than the typical horror flick. But there’s almost no actual story here. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

If you’re playing the discouraging game of keeping track of all the male filmmakers who get handed the keys to big-budget films on the slimmest of recommendations (while experienced female filmmakers don’t get hired at all), here’s another name to add to the list: Corin Hardy. He was hired to direct a reboot of The Crow before The Hallow, his very first feature film, had even debuted at Sundance this past year. (Hardy had previously directed only a single short and some music videos.) Hardy has been “acclaimed” as a “visual stylist” — according to the press notes for The Hallow — and if...

'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' 2015: Henry Cavill and Armie Hammer. 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' movie is a domestic box office bomb: Will it be saved by international filmgoers? Directed by Sherlock Holmes' Guy Ritchie and toplining Man of Steel star Henry Cavill and The Lone Ranger costar Armie Hammer, the Warner Bros. release The Man from U.N.C.L.E. has been a domestic box office disaster, performing about 25 percent below – already quite modest – expectations. (See also: “'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.' Movie: Bigger Box Office Flop Than Expected.”) This past weekend, the $80 million-budget The Man from U.N.C.L.E. collected a meager $13.42 million from 3,638 North American theaters, averaging $3,689 per site. After five days out, the big-screen reboot of the popular 1960s television series starring Robert Vaughn and David McCallum has taken in a mere $16.77 million. For comparison's sake:...

Guy Ritchie’s spy-themed GQ fashion shoot. Pure popcorn nonsense, sleek and chic and vaguely funny, but instantly forgettable. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

I’ve literally just come from a multiplex showing of The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and already I’ve forgotten it. I seem to recall not disliking it while it was unspooling, so I guess that’s good? Now, though, I’m struggling to come up with a reason for the existence of this movie at all. Was there a demand for a big-screen version of the 60s TV show that I was unaware of? Or has Hollywood simply run out of old properties to do over? Is there a trend thinktank working somewhere in New York or London that is desperately trying to get us all into Cold War chic...

A morally muddled mess that is convoluted in plot and appallingly simplistic in its themes. I am a sad geek today. I’m “biast” (pro): I’ve been a fan of Neill Blomkamp’s films
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

If a mashup of 80s robot flicks Short Circuit and RoboCop sounds like a bad joke, well: almost. Chappie is often risible, but it’s more sad than anything else. Not the good kind of sad: this is not a poignant or touching film, though it clearly hopes to be. No, Chappie makes me sad because the promise that South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp displayed with his brilliant District 9 and which hung over his flawed but still daring followup Elysium is nowhere to be found here. Chappie is a morally muddled mess that is convoluted in plot and appallingly simplistic in its themes.
