One of the most forgettable teen fantasy movies of the 2010s had to have been D.J. Caruso’s would-be franchise starter, I Am Number Four. In the wake of the Twilight series, Hollywood was high on teen fantasy (a genre that has now mostly been consigned to streaming), and this promised to be a doozy. It was based on a series of young adult fantasy novels called The Lorien Legacies, which were written by an author named Pittacus Lore, who, turned out to be a pseudonym for disgraced author James Frey (among others), whose career flamed out once it was revealed that his addiction memoir, A Million Little Pieces, was largely fabricated.
However, in this pre-cancellation era, Frey’s fall from grace was quickly forgiven by Hollywood, who sensed this could be the next huge franchise. A young actor named Alex Pettyfer, who Hollywood was hot on at the time,...

One Piece Live-Action has been a complete treat to the eyes in terms of visuals and recreating the same emotions that follow the anime and the manga. This trait also extends to the adaptation’s perfect casting, where Emily Rudd and Lera Abova, who play the roles of Nami and Robin in the series, have already been fan favorites.

Is it possible for a franchise to be both underrated and wildly beloved? When it comes to literature for kids and middle grade readers, the answer is a clear "yes." A few massive pop cultural flashpoints aside, modern kid lit seems to be full of super-popular titles that earn millions of young fans but barely register on the radar of adults. Rick Riordan's "Camp Half-Blood Chronicles" appears to be one of these. The books, which center on the sassy son of Poseidon, Percy Jackson, and the friends and rivals he meets at a camp for demigods, have more than 180 million copies in print, according to Disney. However, if you're over the age of 35, you may not have heard of them -- until about a year ago.

A tough-as-nails mother ready to risk it all for humanity? No, it’s not the latest Charlize Theron action thriller; it’s Mary, the ambitious and lavish Netflix production directed by DJ Caruso. Think of this as a coming-of-age biblical epic that tracks the Blessed Mother’s ordeals, as chronicled in the Bible — from being shunned following a miraculous conception to running into hiding. And it wouldn’t be a biblical tale without King Herod (a steely Anthony Hopkins), of course, meaning a devilish pursuit of the newborn baby Jesus, who Mary and Joseph (Noa Cohen and Ido Tako) try to hide. Faith, courage, and determination are big themes. The takeaway is how fierce and faithful a mother can be.
Viewers may not feel that devoted, though. Mary suffers from wanting to cram in too much and, at times, not enough. There’s no mention of the Roman Empire, for instance,...

The ensemble cast includes Ido Tako, Stephanie Nur, Susan Brown, Ori Pfeffer, Eamon Farren, Hilla Vidor, Mili Avital, Gudmundur Thorvaldsson, Dudley O'Shaughnessy, and Keren Tzur, with Anthony Hopkins. Remember the halcyon days of 2010? The Marvel Cinematic Universe was still in its infancy, but much was already being made of any superhero movie that felt even slightly different from the future juggernaut's quippy origin stories. Future DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn's name was already in the middle of conversations about superhero ethics thanks to his new film "Super," while fans of Alan Moore's "Watchmen" comics were still debating the merits and myriad drawbacks of Zack Snyder's big-screen adaptation. From "The Spirit" to "Hancock," recent alternative superhero stories were actively dividing audiences who had yet to lay eyes on a single "Avengers" film.
Then "Kick-Ass" showed up. The R-rated action-comedy featured a scrappy teen hero, a little girl who loved to beat the s**t out of people, a fittingly odd Nicolas Cage performance, and the unofficially cinematic mascot of the late aughts, "Superbad" breakout star Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

Casting younger, more convincing actors in the reboot of I Am Number Four is a wise choice for attracting a wider audience. Reboot of 'I Am Number Four' has potential to elevate YA dystopian genre with fresh take and improved script. To succeed, focus on faster pacing, better visual effects, stronger characterization, and representation. Learn from past mistakes and prioritize engaging storytelling over potential sequels for a successful reboot.
When I Am Number Four came out in 2011, it didn't take hold of the cultural mindset like other YA dystopian movies, but the upcoming reboot has the opportunity to be better than the critically panned original. I Am Number Four's 2011 film failed to meet expectations, leading to a potential reboot that could redeem the story's potential. The original movie's critical flop and lukewarm box office performance dampened hopes for a successful franchise. Reboot writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar can revitalize I Am Number Four by avoiding previous pitfalls and embracing nostalgia.
During the 2010s, when adapting dystopian and sci-fi young adult novels was at its peak, Disney decided to adapt Pitticus Lore's I Am Number Four, and though the film had the potential to be as successful as the books, it failed, leaving Disney with another chance in the current day to reboot the story and make it as great as it could have been. Published in 2010, I Am Number Four follows a teenage boy known as Number Four who is an alien, part of a group of eight that are being tracked down and killed by their enemies.

A reboot of I Am Number Four could be successful if it embraces the original book's premise, addresses the issues of the first film, and takes creative liberties when necessary. While a reboot or sequel is unlikely due to the disappointing box office performance, other successful book adaptations have received second chances as TV shows, leaving a possibility for I Am Number Four to make a comeback.
Sci-fi book adaptations are often hit or miss, but one series still deserves a movie reboot 12 years after its $150 million box office disappointment: I Am Number Four. Fright Krewe draws inspiration from Scooby-Doo and Goosebumps to create a spooky animated series for kids and older viewers alike. Unlike Scooby-Doo, the show features real monsters instead of people in masks, leaning more towards the horror genre like Goosebumps. With a mix of humor and genuine scares, Fright Krewe has the potential to continue the legacies of both Scooby-Doo and Goosebumps for modern audiences.
As he expands his horror work to more family-friendly territory with Fright Krewe, Eli Roth explains how Scooby-Doo and Goosebumps inspired the show. Co-created by the genre vet and I Am Number Four author James Frey, the animated show centers on a group of New Orleans teens who inadvertently awaken an ancient demon and must use the special abilities granted to them by the mystical Loa to stop him. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, Fright Krewe marks a rare dual release across Hulu and Peacock in time for the Halloween season.

Eli Roth and James Frey co-created Fright Krewe as a family-friendly animated horror show centered around a group of teens in New Orleans with special powers. The show has a colorful-yet-gothic animation style and combines heartwarming and terrifying storytelling, appealing to both younger viewers and horror enthusiasts. The creators aimed to authentically depict voodoo religion in a respectful manner and hope for the show's success to continue as a TV series and book series, ultimately leaving it in the hands of the viewers.

The focus of the new Brian Duffield thriller No One Will Save You is on Brynn Adams (Kaitlyn Dever) grappling with the trauma of her past and being socially ostracized from her community. However, it’s also a sci-fi feature heavily focused on alien invaders. These aren’t just creatures who look exactly like human beings yet hail from the stars (like the leads of I Am Number Four), these are aliens with a capital A. The otherworldly beings in No One Will Save You look like menacing hybrids of the extra-terrestrials from Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and the titular lead character of Paul. Nobody would ever presume that these creations originated from Earth.

Hollywood's fascination with science fiction has produced some of the greatest thrills in movie history. "Star Wars," "Blade Runner," "The Matrix," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" are but a handful of films that rank high amongst genre enthusiasts for their audacious ideas, innovative visuals, originality, colorful characters, and timeless appeal. Crafting these timeless masterpieces requires significant effort and unwavering commitment, and should not be underestimated. Many production stories showcase the extent to which producers and directors are willing to go to realize their vision -- even if it comes at the cost of the actors' well-being.

Many movie franchises have ended on cliffhangers, leaving audiences without a satisfying conclusion, but some of these franchises find resolution in their original source material. Examples include "Divergent," "The Chronicles of Narnia," "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones," "Eragon," "Ender's Game," "Percy Jackson," "The Golden Compass," "John Carter," "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," and "I Am Number Four." In these cases, the books provide a more extended and complete ending, giving closure to the storylines and characters that were left unresolved in the film adaptations.
Though movie franchises are the bread and butter of Hollywood, and many just can't seem to end, there are others that barely started, and as a result, left major cliffhangers that were never resolved in their original franchise. Oftentimes, these films presented just the first part of a much longer and more epic story, however in one way or another, the franchise was cut before reaching its ultimate conclusion.

The first movie was supposed to kick off a brand-new franchise, but will I Am Number Four 2 ever happen? Following the success of the Twilight movies, studios snapped up other young adult book properties they could turn into movie franchises. I Am Number Four arrived in 2011, adapted from the first book in the Lorien Legacies series by James Frey and Jobie Hughes under the pseudonym Pittacus Lore. The movie follows a monstrous alien race hunting down a group of young aliens hiding on Earth, killing them in a specific order. After killing the first three, Number Four becomes the next target, and he has to fight to protect himself.
If a studio wanted to create I Am Number Four 2, there is plenty of material to draw from. I Am Number Four is the first of seven books in the Lorien Legacies series. While the plan was always to pursue a larger franchise,...

Genre regular Eli Roth has another horror project coming our way – but this one won’t be nearly as brutal or bloody as the likes of Cabin Fever or Hostel. Instead, it’s some “gateway horror” entertainment that comes in the form of an animated series called Fright Krewe. Said to be aimed at “older children”, the first season of Fright Krewe will consist of ten episodes that will be released through both the Hulu and Peacock streaming services. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
The Wrap reports that Roth has teamed up with Dreamworks and author James Frey to bring this series to the screen – and they also point out that Frey is a rather controversial figure. His books A Million Little Pieces and My Friend Leonard were initially marketed as memoirs, but it was soon revealed that large portions of them were either exaggerated or made up.

Movies based on cults make up for great concepts not just because we encounter some of them in real life but also because the writers add an eerie element to them. Although gory horror films such as Wrong Turn aren't based on actual events, the recent Wrong Turn: The Foundation is not far from true stories that may have occurred in the real world. These movies show the dreadful reality of cults, which seem to adhere to a false belief system and commit unspeakable atrocities in the name of their cause.
The upcoming psychological thriller The Clearing seeks to keep up the trend by focusing on an exceptionally unique notion. The series, which consists of eight episodes, is based on distressing true stories that occurred in various cults across Australia. Miranda Otto, Teresa Palmer, and Guy Pearce appear in the series based on J. P. Pomare's best-selling novel. While we're discussing this psychological thriller,...

The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare: Everything We Know About Guy Ritchie's World War II Spy Movie
Few major directors have been known to churn out a film like Guy Ritchie. In recent years, at least, the British director has moved from one project to another with a fascinating quickness; he's pretty much the anti-Baz Lurhmann in that regard. Not unlike Luhrmann though, Ritchie has his own distinctive, bombastic style — and a growing pool of actors he likes to collaborate with.
I'm no expert, but Ritchie seems like a properly fun director to work with, so much so that a number of Ritchie regulars are returning for the director's latest project, an espionage epic called "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare."
With so many other projects on his plate already — the sequel to his live-action "Aladdin," a live-action take on Disney's "Hercules," and a TV spin-off of "The Gentlemen" — it's a wonder that Ritchie's found the time. Does he hire little helpers? Does he have a clone? Whatever his secret,...

Alright everyone, we’ve got all the spookies of October out of our system. Time to turn our eye to Hulu’s list of new releases for November 2022 to celebrate a new fall tradition of…hunky male dancers?
That’s right, Hulu’s biggest original title for November 2022 is Welcome to Chippendales on Nov. 22. This limited series stars Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the real life founder of the original Chippendales club of exotic male dancers. After hits like The Dropout and Pam & Tommy, Hulu likely has high hopes for this one.
The other big original series of note this month is FX’s Fleishman is in Trouble on Nov. 17. This is based on a 2019 novel of the same name and stars Jesse Eisenberg as the titular Toby Fleischman in crisis. Before that, Hulu is teaming up with ABC for some true crime docuseries like Where is Private Dulaney?...
