Years before social media had this much power over society, Gossip Girl had already warned us about the dangers of it, even though the characters in the series were not really paying attention. This teen drama show based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, adapted by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, aired from 2007 to 2012 on The CW network. It follows the exclusive and drama-filled lives of the Upper East Side's high-class teens, who happen to be closely scrutinized by Gossip Girl, an anonymous blogger that thrives on chit-chat and seems to know everything.

The show is a clear demonstration of the influence that social media has if it is not properly managed, going so far as to run people's lives. Even though Manhattan teenagers knew how unhealthy this blog was and all the effects it had on people and relationships, they kept on reading it, effectively expanding its audience day by day.

As a young girl, Cassidy saw her father killed by a shark while getting her to safety. Now a grown woman, Cassidy is returning to the same stretch of coast near Reunion Island on the anniversary of his death to try to put her nightmares behind her.

Along with her husband Gregg, they’re going out on a charter run by his friend Daemon Benz. On the way out she has a flashback to her grandfather Seamus telling his students “The ocean is a dangerous wonder, you’re a visitor here. You are a guest of their kingdom. Be careful.” It’s the first of many platitudes we’ll hear from him before the film is done.

Gravitas Ventures has picked up the U.S. and Canadian rights from Visit Films for Delaney Buffett’s upcoming movie “Adult Best Friends.”

“Adult Best Friends,” which premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, tells the story of a woman who goes on a weekend trip with her co-dependent best friend, where she intends to break the news that she is getting married. The two friends find their paths diverging in their 30s and the trip takes some unexpected turns, including a chance encounter with a classmate and a bachelor party.

Buffett co-wrote “Adult Best Friends” with her real-life best friend Katie Corwin. The two also star in the film alongside Zachary Quinto (“Brilliant Minds”), Mason Gooding (“Scream”) and Cazzie David (“The Umbrella Academy”).

Ever since Stephen Spielbeg first plunged us into the deep, uncharted waters of Jaws, there has been a certain something compelling about shark movies. Whether it’s their ability to turn the calmest waters into a nightmare or the pure thrill of seeing humanity face off against nature’s deadliest predator, these films have cemented their place in our hearts (and our fears). Lucky for us shark movie fans, Netflix is loaded with shark-filled thrills to keep that primal terror alive.

From suspenseful survival stories to over-the-top aquatic action and even a supernatural spin or two, we’ve come up with a list that covers seven shark movies currently streaming on Netflix that are guaranteed to leave you on edge. Indie horror comedy “Glue Trap” has been acquired by Gravitas Ventures following a film festival run that began with its premiere last year at Dances With Films.

The film, written and directed by “Succession” and “Euphoria” writer and consultant Justin Geldzahler, will be released on digital and VOD in the U.S. on Dec. 17.

Starring Obie-winner Brittany Bradford and Isaac W. Jay, the movie follows a couple during a last minute trip to a cabin. “But when an obnoxious third [Gloria Bangiola] wheel arrives,” the logline reads, “they worry their relationship may be in trouble.”

The film is produced by Geldzahler, Christopher Fox, Norris Guncheon and executive produced by Sara McFarlane.

“With the holidays approaching, I’m excited to release our film about loved ones driving each other insane while isolated from an increasingly uncomfortable world,” Geldzahler said in a statement Monday.

The story is set in a rugged town named Redemption. Having starred in only his first Western films in the last few years with “The Old Way” and “Butcher’s Crossing,” Nicolas Cage is doubling down on the genre, having teamed up with Heather Graham (“The Hangover”) and Stephen Dorff (“True Detective”) for “The Gunslingers.”

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Sting was pitting an oversized spider against the inhabitants of an NYC apartment building. Now we have Infested, which pits the inhabitants of a French housing project against a horde of arachnids. Arachnids that the prologue implies are both deadly and in demand.

One of the people that demand comes from is Kaleb. He’s a young man trying to make a living hustling sneakers and whatever else he can make a quick profit from. It’s not exactly a thriving business, and he’s stuck living with his sister Manon in the rundown apartment they inherited from their mother. Adding to his unhappiness is a falling out with his long time friend Jordy.

Eager to move into horror, Spanish director Miguel Martí is partnering with famed actress-producer Macarena Gómez and distributor Carlos Guerrero on an ambitious project to find their perfect hair-raising script.

The trio’s respective, Madrid-based companies, Wonder Ficción, Cilantro Films and 39 Escalones, have launched the We Are Looking for Your Horror Script initiative, putting the call out to screenwriters with a penchant for chills, thrills and the macabre to submit their works from March 2 to April 16 via the website buscamostuguiondeterror.com.

The winning script will be announced on July 13 at the Sotogrande Music Festival, one of the initiative’s many partners. The winner will initially receive €4,000 as a four-year option on the script in addition to €3,600 for three months of development work. The producers will seek to finance the production over the four-year period. A purchase of the script under previously agreed upon terms will be effective once financing is confirmed.

We spoke to Ed Westwick to mark the release of his new thriller Dark Game. Speaking about the themes of the film, and his process getting into the role, we also discussed another new project of his entitled Deep Fear, which is available on Netflix. Naturally while we did speak about his recent and upcoming projects, we couldn’t help but look back and talk to the English actor about Gossip Girl and the continuing legacy of the show. While some actors can have an aversion to a popular role and the fandom comes with it, Westwick is very receptive to the ongoing support, as he talks about what it means to him on a personal level to be so wedded to a show that has such a loyal fan-base.

Fresh off recent releases including Deep Fear (Netflix) and No Way Up (VOD), another shark attack horror movie is headed our way here in 2024. It’s titled Something in the Water.

In the upcoming aquatic horror movie from Studiocanal, “An idyllic destination wedding turns into a battle for survival. The film follows Meg, who tentatively attends the wedding of old friend Lizzie in the Caribbean along with fellow pals Cam and Ruth, plus her former partner Kayla who she parted ways with after both survived a deeply traumatic event.”

Naturally, the wedding party is invaded by hungry sharks and all hell breaks loose.

Attack of the Meth Gator lets you know what you’re in for right from the start as cops raid a Florida meth lab only to have its operators make a run for it. As Shane wades across the swamp, he drops a bag of meth. That’s when we see a giant gator’s snout twitch as if it’s smelling something. Then it goes straight for the meth, then goes for Shane, and one of the cops in a drug-induced frenzy.

Pacific Rim has made a comeback on Netflix.

On the U.S. Top 10 chart for Netflix for the week of Jan .29 through Feb. 4, Pacific Rim was barely included by ranking at No. 10 (per Screen Rant). Leading the Top 10 for movies in the U.S. was the Jeffrey Dean Morgan film The Postcard Killings, which was followed by the recent Netflix movie The Greatest Night in Pop along with the Channing Tatum romance The Vow. Meanwhile, The Super Mario Bros. Movie is staying strong, sitting at No. 4 after spending ten weeks in the Top 10. David Ayer's war movie Fury rounds out the Top 5, with the rest of the list featuring, in order, The Hill, Deep Fear, Orion and the Dark, Tom and Jerry, and Pacific Rim.

Exclusive: Ed Speleers, Ed Westwick, and Dichen Lachman have signed on to star in dark thriller Unholy Night. Grandave International will launch the pic at the upcoming European Film Market.

Directed by Derek Presley and written by Crystal Diane Stevens and Presley, the film follows the story of newly ordained priest Father Paul O’Neill, who is reunited with his ex-con older brother, Luke. When Paul discovers that his ex, Donna, had his child almost eight years ago, he endeavors to rescue his daughter and Donna from her abusive husband, Tony. However, chaos ensues as Tony vows revenge and hires a hitman to eliminate Paul.

The production is helmed by producers Stephen Endelman and Ajay Nayyar, with casting by Kerry Barden, editing by David Leonard, and music composed by Stephen Endelman. Principal photography as well as post-production will take place at Twickenham Studios in London.

Deep Fear achieves Netflix success, reaching top 10 chart status in the US, despite a limited theatrical release and lack of ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Deep Fear previoulsy charted globally before it was released in the United States. Deep Fear's success is impressive, especially given another cheesy shark movie, The Meg 2: The Trench was released last year.

Deep Fear, the low-budget sharks-and-cocaine thriller, was filmed in Malta instead of the Caribbean where it is set. Malta's water SFX facility and tanks served as convincing stand-ins for Caribbean waters. Malta has a long history of being a popular filming location for various movies, including Ridley Scott's films like Gladiator and White Squall. Deep Fear's underwater cinematography was led by Mark Silk, known for his work in James Bond: No Time To Die.

Given the movie's surprising success on Netflix, many viewers are wondering where 2023's Deep Fear was filmed. The low-budget sharks-and-cocaine thriller stars Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick as Jackson, though the film's central protagonist is Madalina Diana Ghenea's Naomi, a world-class yachtswoman. Last Friday, the apocalyptic supernatural Spanish horror film Everyone Will Burn was given a theatrical release in select locations by Drafthouse Films. David Hebrero, who has racked up many credits as a cinematographer and a gaffer, directed Everyone Will Burn from a screenplay he wrote with Javier Kiran. The story centers on María José, an outlier in her small Spanish town, who is grieving after her young son’s suicide. As she teeters on the brink of suicide herself, she encounters a mysterious young girl caked in dirt. It is quickly revealed that the girl has telekinetic powers and might be the harbinger of the apocalyptic prophecy that exists within town legend.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi ranks as the #9 most popular movie on Netflix for the week of Nov. 6–12. The Michael Bay movie clocked 4.1 million total views, beating Cold Pursuit's 3.4 million, but falling short of Deep Fear's 4.3 million. The movie divided audiences and critics, and ultimately underperformed at the box office. It currently ranks as Bay's second-lowest grossing movie.

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi has become a Netflix hit 7 years after its release. Based on real events, the Michael Bay film chronicles an American security team's conflict with insurgents after the storming of a U.S. compound in Libya. The film, which stars John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, David Denman, and Pablo Schreiber, grossed only $69.4 million worldwide, making it the second-lowest grossing movie of Bay's career.

The low-budget shark thriller Deep Fear has become a global Netflix hit, despite not streaming in the U.S. Deep Fear climbed to the No. 8 spot on Netflix's most-watched English-language movies list with 4.3 million viewers and 6.1 million viewing hours. The movie's popularity seems to have come mostly from regions in the Americas, such as Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay, with Australia being the only outside region.

The low-budget shark thriller Deep Fear has become a global Netflix hit. The movie follows a young yachter named Naomi (Mãdãlina Ghenea) whose trip to visit her boyfriend (Gossip Girl cast member Ed Westwick) is interrupted when she comes upon a group of drug traffickers and is forced to retrieve a shipment of cocaine from a sunken ship. All The Light We Cannot See notched another week atop Netflix’s English-language TV charts, with viewership for the limited series continuing to climb.

The World War II story based on Anthony Doerr’s novel managed 10.1M views from November 6 to 12, up from the 9.8M it racked up in the week it debuted. This is quite a showing for All The Light, and it’s by far the most viewing for any series this week.

But, as of now it still has a long way to go before it could reach the streamer’s most popular list. Queen Charlotte is currently at No. 10 on that list with just over 80M views in its first 91 days.

Selling Sunset Season 7 soared up the list to second place (from No. 8 last week). The latest installment of the reality series nearly doubled its weekly audience with 4.7M views.

Like Jaws before it, the release of Cocaine Bear earlier this year has resulted in a slew of natural horror films, many of which are using the same conceit of an animal driven to extreme behavior by the consumption of narcotics. Projects already in production include Crackcoon and the delayed Methgator, created by The Asylum. You can probably guess their plots.

One animal-on-drugs movie that has already seen release is Cocaine Shark. Whereas that film treated its subject matter with an unabashedly schlocky approach, though, the more recent Deep Fear takes a similar gimmick and plays it with a straighter face. It could be the perfect post-summer movie for anyone who wants a fun cinematic trend taken a little more seriously.

Deep Fear, not to be confused with last year’s film about monsters under the streets of Paris (which is probably why they added the “Sharks vs Narcs” subtitle to the film for its digital release), is a call back to the shark films of the past. Not to Jaws or its imitators but to something earlier, like Shark!, Shark’s Treasure, and The Deep where the sharks were a secondary plot element, an added threat for the protagonists to face in addition to other humans.

In the case of Deep Fear that would be Naomi whom we first see showing her co-worker Barney how easily a reef shark can be steered away from people. When she surfaces her partner Jackson that he’s booked another tour.

Caribbean-set tale from Brilliant Pictures will get November on-demand launch.

Gravitas Ventures has acquired US and Canadian rights to shark attack action thriller Deep Fear from UK production and sales company Brilliant Pictures.

Gravitas will give the film an on-demand release on November 3.

“Deep Fear,” the upcoming shark thriller starring “Gossip Girl’s” Ed Westwick and “House of Gucci’s” Madalina Ghenea, has gone into production in Malta.

The feature has also added Stany Coppet (“Vikings: Valhalla”) and Macarena Gomez (“Shrew’s Nest”), who will play drug traffickers Jose and Maria, as well as Ibrahima Gueye (“The Life Ahead”) who will play a boat hand called Barney.

“Deep Fear” sees Ghenea star as accomplished yachtswoman Naomi who embarks on a solo trip through the Caribbean to meet her boyfriend Jackson (played by Westwick) in Grenada.

When a storm forces Naomi of course, she encounters survivors of a shipwreck who, it soon transpires, are actually drug traffickers. They force Naomi to dive into the hull of their sunken ship to retrieve their shipment of cocaine, where she encounters a frenzy of vicious tiger sharks, whom she must outwit to survive.

Jackass has been in our lives for more than two decades. Since October 2000, when the original show premiered on MTV, Johnny Knoxville and his gaggle of goofballs have appealed to lowest-common-denominator comedic impulses. They’ve slammed their testicles into things and had them slammed into by other things. They’ve gleefully dove into danger and gotten legitimately hurt. They’ve aggravated and disturbed an entire generation of people who got Reagan and Clinton elected. But then, for another generation, they brought laughter and some earnest sense of camaraderie. Hmmm, is 2022 turning out to be a twenty-year anniversary celebration for several beloved film franchises? Could be. After all. the year started a tad early for the still-formidable box-office juggernaut, Spider-man: No Way Home, which arrived with two weeks left of the previous year, and about six months ahead of that first web-head feature’s 20th this May. And just last weekend Disney+ hosted the latest animated outing, The Ice Age Adventures Of Buck Wild, the sixth in the series that started two months before Spidey. Now, these flicks are pretty “family-friendly”.Not one entry in this series could ever be trimmed to meet anything but an “R” rating (many would say a “hard R”). So, heed that “black-screened-backed disclaimer/warning” for the sake of yourself and your loved ones (and anybody nearby) because those deranged daredevil doofuses as back in Jackass Forever.
