As usual... These aren't necessarily recommendations. Consider the list more of an Fyi - films we've talked about on this site, at one time or another, that are now streaming on Netflix, that you might want to check out for yourselves. It is hard to get excited about Sleepy Hollow when you hear the premise: Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman are transported to modern-day Sleepy Hollow, where Ichabod teams with a local cop to uncover a National Treasure-like mystery in order to stop the apocalypse. It sounds pretty ridiculous. With only the pilot to judge on, I am not prepared to make a final call, but I will admit that I was more engaging and less ridiculous than the logline would suggest.

New thriller Apartment 4E landed on DVD this week, and when we saw that one of the film's leads, Nicole Beharie, also stars in the upcoming "Sleepy Hollow" TV series, we thought we'd pass on the info in case you're curious about her.

The indie horror thriller Apartment 4E releases today through One Village. This title received partial funding through a Kickstarter campaign in 2010. And, the film's premise is an interesting one, involving a desperate agoraphobe and a mysterious stranger. In the clip, the isolated woman turns violent, when a man enters her apartment. John (Christopher J. Domig) wants a way out, but handcuffs add to his problems. And, a suicidal woman might be the last of his worries. Apartment 4E is now available and horror fans can preview the film's official trailer below. Release Date: May 21st, 2013. Director/writer: Russell Leigh Sharman. We return with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. This week’s feature includes first details on Harbinger Down, trailers for Beneath and Inbred, release details for The Black Dahlia Haunting, and much more:

First Details on Harbinger Down: “Award-winning Visual Effects artists Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff, Jr., co-founders of Studio Adi (Amalgamated Dynamics, Inc.) launched a campaign today for Harbinger Down. “In the spirit of sci-fi/horror classics, Alien and The Thing, Harbinger Down is a tense, claustrophobic full-length creature film that will feature only practical Animatronic and Makeup Effects,” announced Gillis, who will write and direct.

“Our company, Amalgamated Dynamics, will create the kind of Oscar caliber Creature Effects for which we are known,” commented Woodruff, who will produce along with Studio Adi’s Jennifer Tung. Lance Henriksen is set to star.

A film that we've been following for since its early days in production, in 2010, has found a home, as it continues to tour the film festival circuit. S&A has learned exclusively that One Village Entertainment has picked up worldwide rights to director Russell Leigh Sharman’s feature film debut, previously titled Small Of Her Back, an will now be released under the title Apartment 4E. Adapted from his 2008 play Small of Her Back, Sherman's chamber drama stars Nicole Beharie and Christopher Domig. Small Of Her Back is a feature length film we've been following since its 2010 Kickstarter campaign that raised $10,000 in completion funds. It's been a long journey for the film, and it will finally make its world premiere at the 2012 Urbanworld Film Festival next month, in NYC. Written and directed by Russell Sharman, Small Of Her Back stars Nicole Beharie (keep in mind, this was shot at least a year before Shame, The Last Fall, Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day, and the upcoming Jackie Robinson biopic, 42), and Christopher Domig. I'll return to highlight films we haven't already covered, in individual posts. In the meantime, here's a summary of what you can expect... Most of these films you should already be familiar with (especially if you're a regular reader of this site), like the Closing Night film, Middle Of Nowhere; the films in the Spotlights section, with the surprise there being the Viola Davis/Maggie Gyllenhaal drama Won't Back Down; in the Narrative Features section, you'll recognize a lot of those titles, but it's good to see the Nicole Beharie drama Small Of Her Back finally make its debut; in the Documentary Features section, nice to see the Espn 30 For 30 feature...

While there are still not enough good roles for women out there, particularly in mainstream Hollywood, that hasn't stopped a batch of young female stars from exploding from out of nowhere in recent years. Head-turning performances have helped launch faces like Carey Mulligan, Mia Wasikowska, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lawrence, Felicity Jones and many others into the stratosphere, and the success last weekend of "The Hunger Games" has hopefully put to rest the fallacy that huge audiences won't turn up to big movies carried by a woman.

With that in mind, and hot on the heels of our ten picks for actors on the rise yesterday, we've chosen ten actresses who, while yet to be household names, have wowed audiences and casting directors in recent years, and look like strong contenders to headline the big movies of the future.
