Broadway’s 2024-25 season has gotten off to a rather extraordinarily fine start, from the wildly popular and hysterically funny Oh, Mary! to the fabulous splash of Death Becomes Her and the wonderful left-field sleeper Maybe Happy Ending. There have been a few clunkers — looking at you, Tammy Faye — but if the spring season holds the ratio, theatergoers have much to look forward to.

This compendium of Deadline’s Broadway reviews for the season might offer some guidance through what will be a very show-packed spring. No fewer than 18 shows are scheduled to open in March and April.

Here’s the upcoming lineup: Floyd Collins (April 21), Stranger Things: The First Shadow (April 22), Just In Time (April 23), Pirates! The Penzance Musical (April 24), Dead Outlaw (April 27), Real Women Have Curves: The Musical (April 27).

The Thanksgiving holiday is playing its usual tricks on the Broadway show schedule, with nearly all productions having gone dark on Turkey Day itself and making up for the missed shows with added performances on Black Friday and, in a few cases, later in the weekend.

Several things need to happen in the Blue Bloods series finale. The long-running police and family drama is still popular after 14 seasons, but CBS made the disappointing decision to cancel Blue Bloods despite its high ratings. Since massive fan-led movements to save the series did not move the needle, and there are now only a few episodes left, the best that can be hoped is that every Blue Bloods character gets a satisfying ending.

Little has been revealed about what will happen to each of Blue Bloods' best characters as the show draws to a close. There has been widespread speculation that someone will die in the finale, which would make for a sad ending, but this has not been confirmed. The series has planted seeds for several possible more satisfying endings, and several things come up often on wishlists for the series finale.

Jamie & Eddie Finally Starting A Family...

Sunset Blvd. had its best box office numbers yet last week, while Maybe Happy Ending showed some welcome improvement and both Elf and A Wonderful World opened to houses with 90% of seats filled.

The pre-holiday news wasn’t quite so cheery for all of Broadway though, as no fewer than 26 of the 37 productions saw downturns, some small, some not so small, for the week ending November 17. In all, the 37 shows took in $35,104,796, a slip of just about 4% from the previous week, with attendance of 304,368 off by less than a full percentage point.

Among the notable numbers:

Sunset Blvd., a couple weeks out from the Nicole Scherzinger social media flap, posted a gross of $1,902,072, up more than $44,000 over the previous week. Attendance at the St. James was at 95% of the venue’s capacity; A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical, opened at Studio 54 to mostly decent reviews, filling 92% of seats and...

Broadway’s hit musical revival Sunset Blvd. stayed strong last week amidst the controversy surrounding star Nicole Scherzinger’s social media post interpreted (or rather misinterpreted) by many as an endorsement of Donald Trump.

The latest Broadway grosses (for the week ending November 10) indicate that Sunset Blvd. was up $134,498 over the previous week. With attendance at the St. James Theatre at 97% of capacity (compared to 95% the previous week), the show’s total gross was a very strong $1,857,562.

In fact, the weekly gross for Sunset Blvd. was the Broadway roster’s third-highest for the week, behind only the usual favorites The Lion King ($1.9M) and perennial top grosser Wicked ($2.5M).

Scherzinger, in case you somehow missed it, set off a backlash last week after posting a response to Maga comedian and accused sexual assaulter Russell Brand, with Scherzinger asking where she, too, could get a red ball cap inscribed with “Make Jesus First Again.

In need of a warm hug? How about from a robot? It doesn’t get cozier than the utterly lovely Maybe Happy Ending, the cyborg-centric musical with a miniature cast and a gigantic heart now playing at the Belasco Theatre. And if you find yourself melting with just a few flourishes from the strings section, blame Will Aronson, the composer of what’s surely the lushest score to reach Broadway since Adam Guettel’s The Light in the Piazza nearly 20 years ago. Maybe Happy Ending is a throwback, in a sense, laced with croony jazz touches to boot, but it induces a toasty nostalgia through the lens of a colder vision of the future.

Canadian pop-rock icon Avril Lavigne announced the highly anticipated dates for her 2024 Avril Lavigne: The Greatest Hits tour, marking a triumphant return to the stage.

Nineteen may have signed off our screens, but its legacy lives forever.

It's the summation of Station 19 Season 7 Episode 10, which had the arduous task of wrapping up the series in a gratifying way to give viewers the closure they deserved despite the shocking cancelation.

And we got an emotional fest that attempted to honor the characters and fans.

It's a difficult installment even to discuss, or even worse, grade, because how do you place judgment on a series finale like this given the circumstances?

The entire trajectory of the series had to change on a whim to deliver a serviceable sendoff; all the while, there was still hardcore rallying to keep the series alive in some capacity.

Given the ending, it feels like a proper close to this chapter.

Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Darren Criss will return to the stage alongside Helen J Shen in the Broadway premiere of the new musical Maybe Happy Ending.

Maybe Happy Ending will begin previews on Wednesday, September 18, at the Belasco Theatre, with an opening night on Thursday, October 17.

With music by Will Aronson, lyrics by Hue Park and book by both Aronson and Park, Maybe Happy Ending will be directed by Tony Award-winner Michael Arden.

In the midst of a slew of tour dates, grunge rock outfit Dogstar — which features Keanu Reeves as their bassist — stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night in support of their first album in two decades, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.

Dressed in quintessential all-black attire, the band performed their recent single, “Breach,” which features a “nasty bass solo” from Reeves himself. Watch the full replay below.

The appearance marked Dogstar’s first TV outing since Jay Leno’s Tonight Show in July 2000. Formed in 1994, the band debuted with Reeves playing bass, Bret Domrose as the guitarist/vocalist, and Rob Mailhouse on drums. The trio released two albums, 1996’s Our Little Visionary and 2000’s Happy Ending, before calling it quits in 2002.

Most TV pilots play like mini-movies that often end up quite tonally different from the rest of the series to come. Season finales naturally tend to be a show’s best effort of the year as they must satiate the audience for the long offseason. But what about all the episodes in-between? What episode numbers are consistently great?

We endeavored to find out.

Tallinn Black Nights, one of the biggest film festivals in Northern Europe, has revealed the full lineup of its Official Selection Competition, with films by Emma Dante, Călin Peter Netzer, Gust Van den Berghe and Rezo Gigineishvili in the running. There are seven international premieres and 13 world premieres.

The festival’s 27th edition runs Nov. 3-19, while the festival’s industry platform, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, will run from Nov. 13-17.

The Grand Prix for the Best Film, with a 20,000 Euros cash prize, will be bestowed by Tallinn City Council.

Dogstar, the rekindled rock trio featuring actor-bassist Keanu Reeves, are back with their first album in over 20 years, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees. Stream it via Apple Music or Spotify below.

The 12-track LP marks the band’s first full-length since 2000’s Happy Ending, and solidifies the recent reunion between Reeves, guitarist-vocalist Bret Domrose, and drummer Rob Mailhouse that kicked off in May with a performance at Napa Valley’s BottleRock Festival. The appearance hosted the live debuts of nearly every song from the new collection, and the group affirmed in a statement that the concert experience has been a major driving force for them, saying, “When creating this record, we were so excited about the idea of playing it live.”

“One Piece” has remained the most-watched Netflix series on the streamer in its second week since release, logging an additional 19.3 million views this week.

After debuting to the top of the streamer’s most-watched TV list last week with 18.5 million views, the live action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga is now totaling 37.8 million views since its Aug. 31 premiere, according to Netflix.

Next up on the most-watched TV list was “Virgin River” Season 5, which debuted in the No. 2 spot on the list with 9 million views, while limited thriller series “Who Is Erin Carter?” came in third place with 7.1 million views. The third installment of U.K. comedy “Top Boy” took the No. 4 spot with 5.6 million views, while “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” came in fifth with 3.1 million views.

Madrid-based agency Feelsales has picked up worldwide sales rights to indie social drama film “Third Week,” by long term New York-based Catalan writer-director Jordi Torrent (“The Redemption of the Fish”).

A U.S.-Spain co-production, the film is produced by Torrent, alongside Randy Simon, Maria Àngels Amorós and Toni Espinosa, for New York’s companies Duende Pictures and Rfs Wolf Entertainment and Barcelona’s Toned Media.

“One Piece” has debuted at the top spot on Netflix’s most-watched TV list in its first week on the streamer, logging 18.5 million views since its Aug. 31 premiere.

The manga live-action adaptation series climbed to the Top 10 in 93 countries, and scored the No. 1 spot on the list in 46 countries. Right behind “One Piece” on the list was limited series “Who Is Erin Carter?” which brought in 15.8 million views during its second week on Netflix.

Limited series “Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones” debuted to the TV list in the No. 3 spot with 5.7 million views while “Painkiller” came in fourth place on the list with 3.4 million views and “The Ultimatum: Marry Or Move On” Season 2 took the fifth place with 3.1 million views.

Keanu Reeves may have just let the guns cool for John Wick, but he’s picking up the bass once again as his band Dogstar is headed out on tour, marking a happy ending for the band after all. To support their upcoming album “Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees”, Dogstar will hit the road starting in August, hot off of the band performing at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood on Tuesday.

The 30-date tour kicks off in Hermosa Beach, California on August 10th before bouncing around Arizona, Nevada, Colorado, more of the Golden State, and Japan, concluding its first leg in Yokohama. Following the album’s release on October 6th, Dogstar will return in November for shows across the U.S. (and one in Canada), wrapping up in December in Nashville. Tickets go on sale this Friday. Keanu Reeves and his Dogstar bandmates have released new music after more than two decades.

On Wednesday, the alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California not only released a new single, titled “Everything Turns Around”, they also announced their upcoming full-length album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, out October 6.

The new song marks Dogstar’s first new music since their 2000 album, Happy Ending, released prior to their 2002 breakup. Reeves joined the band on bass in 1994.
