Disney’s beloved little deer is all grown up — and has gone absolutely feral.

That’s the immediate takeaway from the first trailer of “Bambi: The Reckoning,” the latest assault on both the senses and yet more cherished children’s IP from the creators of micro-budget smash hit slasher “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey.”

In this very twisted take on the Bambi story, our deer — now not simply grief-stricken over the death of his mother but also mutated, effing enormous and sporting an array of sharp, terrifying teeth — embarks on a deadly rampage through the woods seeking revenge. He throws cars into the air with his giant antlers, charges into otherwise lovely-looking country houses and chases after holidaying families in caravans. There’s a decapitation, several maulings and plenty of blood. In short, this it to be kept as far away from children as humanly possible.

One of the most popular characters is undoubtedly Popeye the Sailor. His journey began in one of the best comic strips in 1929. The sailor went on to romance Olive Oyl, feud with Bluto, and care for his adopted ward, Swee'Pea. In time, Popeye would be involved in cartoons, comic books, a manga series, and a 1980s movie starring Robin Williams and The Shining's Shelley Duvall.

Interestingly, Popeye has now received the horror movie treatment, thanks to entering the public domain. It's in the same vein as the Poohniverse movies where Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet and other A. A. Milne...

The stream of public domain horror continues, this time it’s E.C. Segar’s iconic sailor Popeye who gets turned into a killer. The script by Harry Boxley, who has already scripted a trio of similar films, Piglet, Mouse of Horrors and Cinderella’s Curse re-imagines him as a boy born with huge forearms and freakish strength who accidentally kills one of his tormentors leading to the death of his parents and the young lad seemingly drowning.

Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare and Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey producer Scott Jeffrey has fired back at critics of the latter film two years after its release. Written and directed by Jeffrey's co-producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield, the first installment in The Twisted Childhood Universe debuted in February 2023 to very negative critical responses, with many labeling the movie among the worst ever made.

In an interview with SFX magazine via GamesRadar, Jeffrey fiercely defended Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, recounting the hard work that went into making it. The producer believes that some people who claim not to like the horror parody did not give it a chance, and many of those who did liked what they saw, gaining the franchise new fans. "We had to really grow a thick skin, especially on Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood And Honey. People were saying we were lazy on all this," he said. "People might not like it,...

Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare premiered on January 13, receiving a short theatrical run. The movie takes place in the Twisted Childhood Universe, where Winnie the Pooh's horror movie, Winnie the Pooh: Blood & Honey, also takes place. Similar to Blood & Honey, Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare is a twisted, devious version of a classic children's tale.

Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare has surprisingly done much better than its predecessor — so much so that the theatrical release of Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare was extended because the movie scored 70% among audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The upcoming Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble is an installment in the franchise known as the Twisted Childhood Universe, which transforms various public domain children's characters into horror movie villains. Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios have announced that Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare has extended its theatrical run in 75 different locations, including New York City, NY, Universal City, CA, Tampa, Fl, and more. It will now continue its theatrical run until January 23, 2025.

Following an initial three-day engagement that kicked off on Monday, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is extending its theatrical run with 75 different locations across the country.

In a small way, the micro-budgeted U.K. indie “Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey” more than pulled its weight in drawing audiences back to theaters two years ago. Scott Chambers is in the director's chair for Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare. The latest installment in the Twisted Childhood Universe, a film franchise that also includes horror-ified takes on classic children's characters like Winnie-the-Pooh, follows versions of Peter Pan (Martin Portlock) and Tinker Bell (Kit Green) who abduct children in order to bring them to Neverland.

A new image has been revealed for the upcoming movie Screamboat. The film serves as a horror spoof of Steamboat Willie, the classic animated short that first introduced the Mickey Mouse character.

In 2024, Steamboat Willie officially entered the public domain. While later incarnations of Mickey Mouse are still protected by copyright law, the introductory version as shown in Steamboat Willie can legally be spoofed. This is part of a new trend that's picking up following the success of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, which took another beloved children's character and turned him evil thanks to the copyright protection going away. How Screamboat will turn out remains to be seen, but the first look at David Howard Thornton (the Terrifier trilogy's Art the Clown actor) in the role of the killer Willie has been revealed.

Horror fans wondering just how the Poohniverse will differentiate itself from other major horror franchises now have an answer. Scott Chambers, the writer and director of the upcoming Poohniverse entry Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare, revealed in an interview with ComicBook.com that the franchise won't play out the same as The Conjuring universe or the two worlds pitted against each other in Freddy vs. Jason.

Moreover, Chambers says his film will be totally different from the two Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey films. While those movies feature slasher killers in animal masks, Neverland Nightmare is more psychological, having more in common with Scott Derrickson's indie horror hit The Black Phone. He stated:

The brand new images present a drastically different depiction of Peter Pan’s close ally, Tink, and his sworn enemy, Hook. More interestingly, EW revealed character details behind the new version of Tinkerbell.

It Chapter Two star Bill Hader explains the unexpected connection between the fan-favorite horror film and Hip-Hop icons De La Soul.

During an appearance on Amoeba's What's In My Bag?, Hader opened up about his love of hair metal and David Bowie in his youth before shifting to a decidedly different kind of influence. "This is a big one for me since I was a kid, De La Soul, 3 Feet High and Rising," Hader said, showing off a copy of the group's hit debut studio album. "I love this record so much, I was like 11 when this came out... I wore the tape out."

The Poohniverse is expanding to cover new twisted childhood stories. How did Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare come about as the newest entry and your latest directorial effort?

Scott Chambers: Peter Pan will feature as one of the main villains within Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, and with that filming in 2025, we wanted to introduce the audiences to him before that movie. Going into Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, we want audiences to already feel a certain way toward Pan. So it was important to release this film prior.
