Sam Wrench, who was the director for the massively successful concert movie Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, has signed on to direct a remake of the 1992 film The Bodyguard.

The Bodyguard famously starred Whitney Houston, who played a pop singer who hires a former secret service agent to protect her from a stalker. The movie earned $411 million in the box office worldwide, was nominated for two Oscars, and is also known for its best-selling soundtrack that features Whitney‘s legendary version of “I Will Always Love You.”

Sam is no stranger to helping create top-grossing films himself, as Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie garnered a whopping $261.7 million worldwide, according to Deadline.

Meanwhile, the cast for Sam‘s version of The Bodyguard has not yet been set.

Warner Bros. has set director Sam Wrench to lead a new version of The Bodyguard, the 1992 romantic thriller that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. Wrench, known for directing Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, will helm the studio’s long-developing remake, which has cycled through various iterations since it was first proposed over a decade ago.

Jonathan Abrams has been brought on to write the screenplay. Abrams made his feature writing debut with Juror #2, the Clint Eastwood courtroom drama completed in 2023. A previous version of The Bodyguard remake script was written by Matthew Lopez, though the current iteration will reflect Abrams’ take on the material. Casting for the project has not yet been announced.

Imax released its fourth quarter earnings on Wednesday and posted higher net earnings on rising overall revenues.

That came as tentpoles like Gladiator II, Venom: The Last Dance and Mufasa: The Lion King performed best on its screens during the latest financial period. AMC Theatres has promoted Nikkole Denson-Randolph to senior VP and U.S. chief content officer. Denson-Randolph will be based in Los Angeles and will report directly to AMC’s chairman and CEO Adam Aron. She will also serve on AMC’s executive committee.

Denson-Randolph has spent 16 years at AMC Theatres, most recently spearheading the planning and execution of the company’s successful concert films, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” and “Renaissance: A Film by Beyoncé.” She also helped to launch AMC Artisan Films, a program designed to curate artist-driven films.

AMC Entertainment has promoted Nikkole Denson-Randolph — a key player in bringing Taylor Swift’s blockbuster Eras Tour to cinemas — to senior vice president and chief content officer in the U.S. She’ll report directly to AMC chairman-ceo Adam Aron as she works with Hollywood studios and indie distributors to book movies, and continues to seek out alternative content.

Overseas, Juan Antonio Gomez will now lead all film and content programing internationally. Gomez is chief partnership and content officer at Odeon Cinemas Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of AMC that is Europe’s largest cinema operator.

The leadership transition coincides with news that AMC’s long-time head of worldwide programming and chief content officer Elizabeth Frank is departing after 15 years to serve as CEO of RealD, a leading global provider of 3D cinema technology and AMC’s largest 3D partner. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour officially ended this month in Vancouver. Over the course of its two-year run and 149 concerts, the tour earned a record-shattering $2 billion-plus in ticket sales. And while Swifties might have to wait to see the superstar on the road for the time being, there’s still a way that fans can relive some of the moments from the historic trek thanks to Swift’s Eras Tour concert movie.

After completing the final night of its 149-date run, Swift’s Eras Tour became the first $2 billion tour, selling a total of $2,077,618,725 in tickets, according to The New York Times, which confirmed with Swift’s camp. The Hollywood Reporter has separately confirmed with a source.

The New York Times reports that a total of 10,168,008 people attended the concerts, which equated to a seat selling for about $204 on average. Swift’s eight nights at Wembley Stadium drew 753,112 people. The biggest single night’s attendance was Feb. 16, 2024, in Melbourne, Australia with 96,006.

The only other tour that has crossed the $1 billion mark is Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres World Tour, a feat achieved after two and a half years of shows, according to Billboard. Meanwhile, Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour brought in $939 million on a tour that spanned...

Target Corporation announced Friday that the singer’s official Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book, which is available exclusively at Target, has sold nearly one million copies in its first week and highest-selling week one new release print book of 2024 to date and the fastest-selling new release book of the last four years. The Eras Tour book is also the highest-selling book in the music category since Circana began tracking two decades ago.

Just one retail chain was enough for Taylor Swift to have the top-selling book last week and the biggest publishing launch of 2024.

According to Circana, Swift’s Eras Tour Book sold 814,000 copies over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Circana tracks around 85 percent of the print market, but the Eras numbers are more precise: Swift sold the book exclusively through Target, which launched the Eras tie-in on Black Friday.

Sales soared even as Swift skipped Amazon.com and other retailers and as some fans complained online that the $39.99 book included typos and other errors. Representatives for Target and Swift did not immediately respond to requests Wednesday for comment.

The sales put Swift in rare company. The only bigger nonfiction launch was the first volume of Barack Obama’s presidential memoirs, A Promised Land, which sold 816,000 copies its first week on shelves in 2020, according to Circana, which does not include audio and e-book sales.

Taylor Swift owns just about every other media segment, including being the most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2024, so why not publishing?

I went to see a sci-fi movie in 2023 that I was sure had enormous potential as a franchise starter, and although it crashed and burned at the box office, I've since managed to find a silver lining. While the production didn't come close to breaking into 2023's best blockbusters, I still found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I would have enjoyed more from the same world, but there's a surprisingly big advantage to the movie's box office failure.

The 2023 movie doesn't belong to the category of sci-fi robot horror movies, but the plot's focus on advanced AI certainly places it in an adjacent field. I love stories that revolve around artificial lifeforms, and being a fan of the movie's director also made me especially excited to see it. A busy weekend at the UK and Ireland box office this weekend as Prima Facie, Lee, Speak No Evil and The Critic all launch in 550+ cinemas.
