Warner Bros. will always love you and is in the works to remake a romantic, box office ’90s hit. Warner Bros. Pictures will remake the 1992 film “The Bodyguard” starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, the studio’s film chiefs announced in an interview Friday.
“The Bodyguard” starred Costner as a former Secret Service agent as a man who takes a job protecting an R&b singer with a lifestyle far different than what he’s accustomed to and whom is being pursued by a stalker. The film was released at the height of Whitney Houston’s pop stardom and includes some of her classic hits including “I Will Always Love You,” and it also was nominated for two Oscars for Best Original Song. The film made $411 million worldwide, and Warner Bros. has even tried to remake the property before, including most recently in 2011.
Warner Bros. has already attached a director and writer to the project.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has just set plans to revamp The Bodyguard, the 1992 romantic drama thriller that teamed superstars Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The studio, which released the original, has set Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour director Sam Wrench to helm and script by Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams, Deadline has learned.
The news was revealed Friday in an interview with Warner Bros’ co-film bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. No casting has been set, but after the first film’s star duo and box office success (it made $411 million worldwide box office and landed a pair of Oscar nominations) it certainly will be a casting process to watch. Beyond Swift, there are many singers who could play the singing star that this should be a magnet for an exciting cast.

Exclusive: If you focus on snarky and largely unsubstantiated reports, you might figure Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy would spend this weekend boxing up their belongings. Using a couple flops and risky upcoming films as fodder, several reports with scant backup say their Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav is scouring for replacement candidates (which he denies in a tepid manner). Despite the rough press, De Luca and Abdy will actually spend this weekend same as their counterparts at other studios do: trying to keep an eye on kids while they read scripts, watch dailies and dream up slates for 2026 and beyond.

Imax released its fourth quarter earnings on Wednesday and posted higher net earnings on rising overall revenues.
That came as tentpoles like Gladiator II, Venom: The Last Dance and Mufasa: The Lion King performed best on its screens during the latest financial period. A year earlier, Imax had Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Wonka on the cinema technology company’s big screen network.
Overall fourth-quarter revenue came to $92.7 million, up 8 percent from a year-earlier $86 million. Amid a box office recovery for Hollywood coming out of the pandemic, Imax is looking to leverage increasing demand for new and upgraded theater systems worldwide.
The large-format exhibitor recorded net income of $5.2 million, which compared to a profit of $2.5 million in the same period last year. During the latest quarter, the adjusted per-share profit in Q4 came to 27 cents, a sharp improvement from year-earlier per-share profit of 11 cents.

The Taylor Swift-Kanye West drama has been a long-raging one despite having kickstarted more than a decade and a half ago. One of the most famous feuds in the entertainment industry of all time, their bad blood really was one of the most unexpected that started back when the latter decided to publicly humiliate her at the VMAs back in 2009.

Since then, there has been a lot of progress in this feud story, though the pair could never really settle on staying friends once and for all, with their bad blood even making its way into their tracks. But the surprising part is that, even after West didn’t really go easy on her, Swift still desperately sought his approval, as she herself confessed.

It's hard to think of a performer more successful than Taylor Swift, which is why it's surprising that the iconic singer didn't receive an Oscar nomination for her smash hit 2023 concert documentary, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour. The film showcases Swift's performance of her titular concert in Los Angeles. The Eras Tour broke all kinds of box office records, grossing over $261 million at the worldwide box office (via Box Office Mojo) and becoming the highest-grossing concert film of all time.
Swift began her Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona on March 17, 2023, and performed a whopping 149 shows spanning five continents. The Eras Tour concluded in Vancouver, British Columbia on December 8, 2024. Raking in over $1 billion in revenue, the Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time. It also sold 10.1 million tickets, becoming the second most-attended tour ever. As many tickets as that is, there was still a vast array of...

After two years, Taylor Swift’s historic Eras Tour has finally come to an end. While the tour was filled with memorable moments, one aspect that many fans and haters couldn’t shake off was Taylor’s frequent private jet usage.
Between an international concert tour and catching her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s NFL games, there’s plenty of reason that Taylor would need easy air travel.
Now that her tour is done, some viewers are calculating just how much the “All Too Well” singer was flying throughout the year. Plus, they’re tracking the environmental impact of all the jet fuel.

In the Taylor's Version re-recording journey of her first six albums, Taylor Swift only has two more left to go, and it's clear which one she should release first. Swift famously began with Fearless (Taylor's Version) in the early part of 2021, reclaiming the album that changed absolutely everything for her and her career first while adding special new songs "From the Vault." Ever since, Swift has gone on to release three others, including Red (Taylor's Version), Speak Now (Taylor's Version), and 1989 (Taylor's Version). That leaves only two others: Reputation (Taylor's Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version).
With the Taylor's Versions of both Speak Now and 1989 being announced on the first leg of Swift's juggernaut The Eras Tour, fans reasonably assumed that Swift would go on to announce her next Taylor's Version during the latter part of the tour. Target Corporation announced Friday that the singer’s official Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour Book, which is available exclusively at Target, has sold nearly one million copies in its first week and highest-selling week one new release print book of 2024 to date and the fastest-selling new release book of the last four years. The Eras Tour book is also the highest-selling book in the music category since Circana began tracking two decades ago.

Just one retail chain was enough for Taylor Swift to have the top-selling book last week and the biggest publishing launch of 2024.
According to Circana, Swift’s Eras Tour Book sold 814,000 copies over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Circana tracks around 85 percent of the print market, but the Eras numbers are more precise: Swift sold the book exclusively through Target, which launched the Eras tie-in on Black Friday.
Sales soared even as Swift skipped Amazon.com and other retailers and as some fans complained online that the $39.99 book included typos and other errors. Representatives for Target and Swift did not immediately respond to requests Wednesday for comment.
The sales put Swift in rare company. The only bigger nonfiction launch was the first volume of Barack Obama’s presidential memoirs, A Promised Land, which sold 816,000 copies its first week on shelves in 2020, according to Circana, which does not include audio and e-book sales.

Taylor Swift owns just about every other media segment, including being the most-streamed artist on Spotify in 2024, so why not publishing?
The singer/songwriter’s The Eras Tour Book, which had fans lining up at Target stores this weekend, had one of the biggest debuts ever, according to the Associated Press, citing data from Circana. All told, The Eras Tour Book scanned 814,000 copies in its debut frame.
The only book to top Swift’s, according to Circana, is the 2020 first volume of Barack Obama’s presidential memoirs, A Promised Land. And it only barely edged The Eras Tour Book, selling just over 816,000 copies.
Swift’s accomplishment is even more spectacular given the fact that The Eras Tour was only available at Target stores. It is also notable, since fans and the media were not entirely kind to the book, calling out errors and typos.

Wicked is out in theaters and the movie is breaking records, enchanting the hearts of millions, and delighting the critics. Since the Jon M. Chu-helmed musical is based on an internationally famous musical, it has started a worldwide conversation: is it okay to sing the songs?
This has sparked a very heated debate online about theater etiquette. Some people feel entitled to show off their love for the source material and excitement about the new adaptation on the big screen, while others want to enjoy the film itself and hear the professional actors. While it was perfectly fine to sing in the theater for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and Beyoncé's Renaissance concert films, even those had people complaining about people singing. They complain even worse about people singing during musicals. In a new interview with TVLine, Wicked star Cynthia Erivo, who plays Elphaba, weighed in on the debate.

It was the weekend that box office observers had circled on their calendars for months. Universal Pictures released the big Broadway musical adaptation "Wicked" in theaters on the same day that Paramount Pictures unleashed Ridley Scott's "Gladiator II" on audiences in North America. 2023 had Barbenheimer. 2024 had Glicked. While pretty much everyone was a winner here, it was director Jon M. Chu's fantastical musical epic that came out on top.
Chu's latest topped the domestic charts with an estimated $114 million. Coupled with the film's solid $50.1 million overseas total, that leaves "Wicked" with a ridiculously strong $164 million global opening. "Gladiator II" still managed to open to $55 million, which was great all things considered, but Universal's return to the land of Oz ended up blowing past already optimistic industry projections with its opening. It now ranks as by far the biggest opening weekend ever for an adaptation of a pre-existing stage musical,...

Netflix released Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour one year after the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour premiere in theaters, and the newer movie has one important thing that the older one was missing. Olivia Rodrigo kicked off the Guts World Tour on February 23, 2024, in Palm Desert, California, and as of the writing of this article, it's still ongoing. As its name suggests, the Guts World Tour centers around Rodrigo's second studio album, Guts. However, the concert incorporates songs from the singer-songwriter's first album, Sour, too.
Olivia Rodrigo is expected to resume the Guts World Tour in March 2025, traveling to Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and England. The tour will reportedly end on July 1, 2025, in Manchester, England.
Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour was recorded over the course of two back-to-back concerts at the Intuit Dome in Englewood, California, in Los Angeles County, on August 20 and 21, 2024. A little over two months later,...

It looks like Hollywood and movie theaters are going to have a lot to be thankful for very soon. That's because the Thanksgiving frame is shaping up to be an absolute juggernaut, with not one, not two, but three different films looking to sell a lot of tickets as we head into the holiday season, with Universal's musical "Wicked" and Paramount's long-awaited sequel "Gladiator II" leading the way. While the films couldn't be more different on paper, early box office tracking suggests they have something in common. Namely, general audiences are very interested in both of them.
"Wicked" is currently tracking for an opening weekend of $80 million or more domestically, while "Gladiator II" is eyeing an opening in the $65 million range, per early tracking numbers provided by Deadline. It's very early to start getting hyperbolic, but we could be looking at another Barbenheimer situation here. Last year, Greta Gerwig...

Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour was filmed during Rodrigo's Los Angeles, California run. Rodrigo was raised in Temecula, California, and her LA tour stop marked a series of sold-out hometown shows. The Guts World Tour concert film was shot at the singer-songwriter's August 20 and 21 shows at the Intuit Dome. The show features a number of wardrobe changes and elaborate sets that coincide with the aesthetic choices of Guts, Rodrigo's Grammy-nominated sophomore album.

Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour has just begun streaming on Netflix, and in addition to actress and singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo's stunning performance, there are a number of musicians, dancers, background vocalists, and even a surprise guest who join her. While the chart-topping singer is still on the road through summer 2025, Netflixs concert film Olivia Rodrigo: Guts World Tour finally arrives on streaming on October 29, 2024. Following the success of her debut album Sour, Olivia Rodrigo dropped her sophomore album Guts in September 2023, which includes hits like Vampire, Bad Idea Right?, and Get him back! In February, Rodrigo embarked on a six-leg, 100+ show, 18-month world tour to celebrate the album, which now follows up on the success of concert films like Taylor Swifts 2023 Eras Tour movie to bring the hit Guts World Tour concert series home.

Manfred Mann’s 1968 hit single “Ha! Ha! Said the Clown” synthesizes theaters this weekend as “Terrifier 3” (Iconic/Cineverse) easily took the top spot. “Has the king lost his crown?” the second verse goes. Well, yes he did, and more, as “Joker: Folie à Deux” (Warner Bros.) fell 81 percent and likely to fourth place.
“Terrifier” is the third entry in the microbudget unrated horror series. With a $5 million budget (including marketing), it more than doubled what was anticipated as an already-decent $8 million opening. Positioned perfectly before Halloween, ahead of “Smile 2” (Paramount) next week, it built on its growing fandom and a smart social media campaign.
With an audience that reportedly is almost half Latino, “Terrifier 3” saved a bad weekend from being even worse. It’s an impressive achievement, all the more so without an MPA rating, and it could reach $50 million.
The caveat is we’ve got $18.3 million...

Taylor Swift is a historic artist at the Grammys with more Album of the Year victories than any other artist (four). She has prevailed for “Fearless,” “1989,” “Folklore,” and just this past year “Midnights.” While accepting one of her awards for “Midnights,” the prolific singer-songwriter announced her next album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which dropped in April and has become one of the biggest commercial hits of her career, spending 15 nonconsecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. But will she rack up more top Grammy wins so soon after her record-breaking “Midnights” triumph? She’s certainly going to try. Here are her nine submissions on the Grammy ballot:

The negative word-of-mouth around Warner Bros.’ “Joker: Folie à Deux” is already dealing big blows to its box office fortunes. After making just $11.1 million on Saturday — a drop from the $20.1 million earned Friday even after the $7 million from Thursday previews are removed — opening weekend estimates for this $190 million budget tentpole have now fallen to $39 million.
Not only is that below the $50-55 million pre-weekend projections and just 40% of the October record $96 million opening of the first “Joker” in 2019, but it is now nearly matching the $39 million opening of Sony’s maligned 2022 Marvel film “Morbius” and could slip even below that should walk-up ticket sales continue to sag.
Todd Phillips’ film, a courthouse drama with dream musical sequences, has seen its Rotten Tomatoes score fall to 33% critics and 31% audience. CinemaScore polls yielded a D, the lowest grade ever for a comic book film.
At this rate, it would not be surprising...

One of the several songs that Taylor Swift sings during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is "champagne problems" from evermore, which contains complex lyrics that seemingly have a deeper meaning. The concert film, directed by Sam Wrench and produced by Swift, premiered in theaters in October 2023 and was a massive triumph. Over the course of its theatrical run, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert movie of all time after earning over $260 million at the box office, surpassing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (which grossed $99 million) with ease.

By this weekend, we’ll know whether October will be a hit or a bust. “Joker: Folie à Deux” (Warner Bros.), a $190 million-plus production before marketing, opens worldwide Friday against real concerns: It may not come anywhere close to the 2019 original.
With Joaquin Phoenix returning in the role that won him an Oscar, Lady Gaga joining with a musical touch, and Todd Phillips repeating as director, what could go wrong?
“Joker” had the benefit of a more-modest budget — $75 million plus marketing — but in 2019, foreign business was surging and international contributed 69 percent of its nearly $1.1 billion worldwide gross. Today, most studio titles gross about 50-50 domestic and foreign.
And while “Joker” won the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, last month’s Lido launch of “Folie à Deux” generated a muted response.
No one expects “Joker: Folie à Deux” to come close to the original’s $96 million opening. Industry consensus is closer to $55 million-$60 million,...

The Taylor Swift-Kanye West saga has so many twists it could fill a season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. It all started with that infamous 2016 phone call where Kanye West supposedly got Taylor’s approval for a controversial lyric. But did she really? Fast forward, and suddenly an alleged phone recording surfaces, sparking one of pop culture’s biggest he-said-she-said battles.

If true, it could’ve crushed Swift’s squeaky-clean image, throwing her career into chaos. Instead, it’s Kanye who ends up taking most of the heat. This drama became the ultimate plot twist, with fans picking sides, and Taylor Swift’s empire only grew stronger, but it was almost the call that destroyed it all.

I went to see a sci-fi movie in 2023 that I was sure had enormous potential as a franchise starter, and although it crashed and burned at the box office, I've since managed to find a silver lining. While the production didn't come close to breaking into 2023's best blockbusters, I still found it to be a thoroughly enjoyable experience. I would have enjoyed more from the same world, but there's a surprisingly big advantage to the movie's box office failure.
The 2023 movie doesn't belong to the category of sci-fi robot horror movies, but the plot's focus on advanced AI certainly places it in an adjacent field. I love stories that revolve around artificial lifeforms, and being a fan of the movie's director also made me especially excited to see it. I'm very grateful for the production being released, but I think I'll always have a quiet yearning for a sequel...

Gimmicky popcorn buckets have long been a part of the movie-going experience, but theyve recently turned into sought-after collectibles. It seems the trend has only grown over the past year, with theater-exclusive buckets becoming the must-have item for film enthusiasts. From the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour bucket to the racy design for Dune: Part Two that thrilled lonely fellas around the globe, movie-themed buckets are everywhere. Marvel Studios even got in on the action with their extremely Nsfw Deadpool & Wolverine bucket. Now, its time for Venom: The Last Dance to take a bite out of the competition.

Gimmicky popcorn buckets have been sold in theater chains for decades, but it's really over the past year that they've seemingly become collector's items.
We're not sure where it started, but people flocking to buy them made headlines with the Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie last fall. Then it was the Dune: Part Two popcorn bucket which received attention for its potential Nsfw potential, something Marvel Studios capitalised on with its own wacky Deadpool & Wolverine-themed offering.
Unfortunately, the first Venom: The Last Dance popcorn bucket leaves much to be desired.
As you can see below, it's just a generic bucket with an image of Venom that's been recycled from the 2018 movie. It's possible we'll see some more imaginative efforts in the coming weeks and if one of them isn't a version of what we got for the Dune sequel with Venom's teeth...well, what a missed...
