Acclaimed actor Alex Wolff has worked with some of the biggest directors working today, from Ari Aster (Hereditary) to Christopher Nolan (Oppenheimer). And after directing his own feature, The Cat and the Moon (2019), Wolff has another project he's helming in the works. It's called If She Burns and features rising stars like Justice Smith (I Saw the TV Glow). MovieWeb recently caught up with Wolff while he was promoting his new comedy Magic Farm, directed by Amalia Ulman (El Planeta) and also starring the great Chloë Sevigny. Wolff took time to talk about his upcoming project and how it's connected to his latest film release.
"Doing Magic Farm definitely helped me in terms of seeing the way that Amalia — whatever she was married to, in terms of her style of shooting or shots for scenes, and she was also so devoted to capturing the culture," Wolff told MovieWeb. "I learned so much from Amalia's freedom.

From playing Leonard Cohen to a conflicted frat boy, Alex Wolff’s recent on-screen roles span life on idyllic Greek islands to toxic college parties. Next up is his second directing effort, If She Burns.
“I didn’t realize how much of a razor’s edge I was walking when I was making the movie, but I really feel it when I watch it,” Wolff tells Deadline about playing Tom Backster in Ethan Berger’s The Line. The film portrays the outsized power and privilege wielded by a fictional fraternity, Kappa Nu Alpha, and the accompanying web of friendships and hazing. Wolff’s Tom, unlike his fraternity brothers, is not from money and is both intoxicated and horrified by the world he inhabits.
Walking the line here meant bringing empathy to a character who is part of a group that behaves awfully. Wolff says: “It’s always a scene or...

Alex Wolff slides into a plush chair at the Mandarin Oriental in New York’s Columbus Circle and orders a massive breakfast. By his own admission, he’s hungover, but he looks perfectly put together in that East Village kind of way. The Nickelodeon star-turned-“Pig” breakout is wearing a hoodie with the words “San Francisco” emblazoned across the front, the type a tourist might pick up at Fisherman’s Wharf, paired with Alex Crane pants. The previous night, he hit the premiere for “A Quiet Place: Day One”; the latest entry in the Paramount horror franchise finds Wolff playing a hospice nurse who convinces a terminal Lupita Nyong’o to trek into the city just as an alien invasion unfolds.
“I never really let loose at a premiere. I just get nervous,” he explains. “And then afterwards, I’ll go to some pub and get wasted.”
For the 26-year-old native New Yorker,...
