Fans of investigative mystery series are hardly ever left without something to watch. But what's surprising about the subgenre is how it always manages to keep itself fresh in several respects. For Acorn TV's new series A Remarkable Place To Die, the landscape itself is a character, and Collider is excited to exclusively reveal a sneak peek that makes it absolutely clear that viewers will be both intrigued by the mystery and stunned by the scenic elements of the New Zealand-based series that is set to premiere on February 17.

Today, Acorn TV unveiled the trailer and key art for the New Zealand mystery series A Remarkable Place to Die, starring Chelsie Preston Crawford (Underbelly) and acclaimed Australian actress Rebecca Gibney (Under the Vines).

The four-episode original series premieres Monday, February 17 on Acorn TV in the US and Canada, with new episodes released weekly.

A Remarkable Place to Die follows smart and determined homicide detective Anaís Mallory (Preston Crawford) as she returns to her hometown of Queenstown, New Zealand, assuming the role of lead detective and hoping to unravel the truth behind the deaths of her father and sister.

Mallory has a stellar policing career underway after a secondment to Sydney, but she is forced to confront her strained relationship with her mother (Gibney) and the ghosts of her past, including her ex-fiancé Luke, who is now married to her ex-best friend, Maja.

Banijay Entertainment is starting 2025 off with a new approach to its scripted division.

The French production and distribution company announced on Monday that it has promoted Steve Matthews to be head of scripted, creative, and Johannes Jensen to be head of scripted, business. Both execs will report to chief business officer Frédéric Balmary.

“Our scripted offering continues to go from strength-to-strength with a combined slate of new hits and successful returners scooping high-profile awards and widespread critical acclaim,” Balmary said in a statement. “We are incredibly proud of our producers’ achievements in this space and as we continue to grow, the refreshed roles for Steve and Johannes will strengthen our creative and business acumen, ensuring we continue to innovate and lead on the global stage.”

Matthews joined Banijay in 2023 and is credited with “fueling the storytelling pipeline” at the company by introducing the Banijay Bootcamp, where emerging writers get to work with existing executives.

The AMC Networks February 2025 schedule has been announced and includes new episodes of AMC’s Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches; Sundance Now’s supernatural romance Fallen, based on the best-selling book series; and Acorn TV murder mystery, A Remarkable Place to Die, and moving limited series, Best Interests, starring Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen.

The lineup also includes We TV’s new original series, Love After Lockup: Crime Story, and BBC America’s natural history landmark, Planet Earth: Asia.

Exclusive: A new film and TV studio has opened its doors in Queenstown, New Zealand. Screentime New Zealand is behind Remarkable Studios Nz and the Banijay label has already filmed a major drama project there. The studio is now open for business to third parties.

Used as the backdrop to Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, Queenstown’s landscape is familiar to filmmakers, but Remarkable Studios Nz is its first studio. The hope is the new facility, which is a repurposed and recently vacated department store, makes Queenstown a hub for primary production rather than a location base or second-unit shoot option.

The former executive of Octagon Films in Dublin (Love/Hate) and consulting producer on all three seasons of Showtime’s The Borgias, starring Jeremy Irons, has since then worked as content partnerships executive at Banijay.
