Just watched The Untamed on Netflix and honestly it was a massive waste of potential. Yeah the cinematography was beautiful, I'll give them that. The film is shot well and visually it stands out but that's where the praise ends. The storyline was weak, dragged out and never went anywhere meaningful. Characters were shallow and forgettable with no emotional depth or growth. I couldn't connect to anyone or anything. It felt like the actors themselves didn't believe what they were saying. Nothing felt real or impactful. Just a bunch of slow scenes with no soul. I kept waiting for something to happen, some twist, some real emotion, anything, but it just stayed flat the whole time. Style over substance to the max. It's the kind of movie you finish just because you already started it not because it's good. Beautiful on the outside, empty on the inside.
I just binge-watched all the episodes and loved the beautiful and breathtaking nature as well as the cinematography. The plot was interesting and kept me engaged until the end. The actors' performances were solid, though not particularly memorable. Unfortunately, the twist at the end was somewhat unsatisfying and felt implausible.
While Turner has previously been known for tying up loose ends, this miniseries didn't quite manage that. The pacing felt rushed, and the editing prevented the story from building any real suspense. Certain scenes were predictable, and some of the minor subplots had potential but were not developed to their fullest.
I appreciated the personal stories of Turner and Vasquez, but I was left with many unanswered questions about the murder and the events that led up to it.
All in all, a solid production and time well spent-but not something I'll remember or feel the need to watch again.

Supposedly in Yosemite, this series is shot in British Columbia with Squamish's Stawamus Chief taking the place of El Capitan. It's really the highlight and primary star of this series. Otherwise, it's really a very slim story embellished with dull backstory and emotional relationships, occupying about 90% of this show. Which is a shame.
The series should have been a plot-driven, detective mystery but instead it's mired in relationship explorations. The relationships could have been improved with wittier, more incisive dialog instead of the soap opera we have here.
You can speed through this series in about an hour. That's all you need. The rest is filler and boring filler at that. The Stawamus Chief deserves better.

Untamed is a good watch-the stunning backdrop alone, will make it worth your while. Bana delivers an intense performance, embodying both vulnerability and strength, while Santiago adds emotional depth with her portrayal, creating a strong chemistry that will draw you into the story. It was also good to see Raoul Max Trujillo (Apocalypto). The cinematography is great, and captures the majestic landscapes, enhancing its menacing atmosphere. However, the pacing is a little off, it feels somewhat rushed, with key plot developments and character arcs lacking exploration, which will tend to leave you wanting more depth. Despite these issues, it's engaging with a blend of suspense and emotional resonance, making it captivating. Give it a shot.
8.76/10 stars I could have done without the last episode but I will watch Eric Bana in anything (I felt bad for Hector) and this was the perfect mid-slow burn detective show I have been looking for.
The GOOD: the lack of 24 different red herrings that could have been eliminated if they tell the truth the first time (i.e. The Residency=garbage), the beautiful scenery of the off the beaten tracks of Yosemite, Glory's speech, the unforced injection of Native American customs, history and culture, the details of each forensic discovery, Lily Santiago's face (I would love to see her in a comedy), great acting by Rosemarie Dewitt and William Smillie made me smile every time.
The BAD (kinda): Eric Bana playing a disagreeable character. It kind of works but this type of character is getting played out. Just think about all the upskilling these premier detectives have to do every year. They can't act like aloof and arrogant to every expert, colleague and mentor. They can't all be self taught knowitalls, Two Australian leads playing cowboys-Sam Neil's accent was annoying at times, the first Baddie (there are multiple) didn't get enough screen time (he flinched), Caleb:I'm not a fan of this type of storytelling. In the head or out of the head. Not both, The fact that I figured out the Robertson disappearance the second time it was mentioned.
The UGLY: The sins of the father, coyote attacks, child deaths and how they destroy the souls of parents.

- AnecdotesBana, who's also an executive producer on the show, stressed that filming in B.C. was a crucial component of making this show right. "I'd spent time in your beautiful part of the world in winters, but not in summer," Bana said. "So to get a chance to set the show there cinematically, and to get the scope and everything, was just incredible. It was a hugely important element in the show. We felt like the character of Yosemite National Park, and the role that nature plays, is one of the characters in the show. So we were thrilled to film there."
