It was announced on Tuesday that the film will be presented Out of Competition at the Grand Théâtre Lumière at the Cannes Film Festival.

On Wednesday, May 14, actor and producer Tom Cruise, his long-time collaborator, director and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, and the cast will walk the steps of the Palais des Festivals.

This is only the Hollywood legend’s third appearance on the Croisette: the first in 1992, for the premiere of Ron Howard’s Far and Away, a few years went by before Tom Cruise’s memorable return in 2022, marked by the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick, his gripping masterclass and the emotional reception of his honorary Palme d’or.

A new trailer and poster for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning have been released (via ActioNewz.com), and both show Tom Cruise performing some wild stunts, including a now-familiar shot of the actor hanging from the wing of an airborne biplane.

Another sees him jump into the ocean from the deck of a ship, and there's plenty of action to be found. We also have a first look at Severance star Tramell Tillman's mystery character and some very intriguing tech that Ethan Hunt is strapped into.

The sneak peek also plays up the parallels to many of the Imf agent's previous adventures and what could be his last mission...should he choose to accept it, of course.

During last night's Final Four games on CBS, Paramount Pictures announced that the brand new theatrical trailer for Tom Cruise's highly anticipated Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning - which originally debuted at CinemaCon last week - will be released online Monday!

Whether it'll drop during the National Championship Game or earlier in the day remains to be seen, but we'd wager on the latter since that's generally when the studio tends to launch new footage. We'd then expect a TV spot to debut during the game, directing fans online to check out the full-length trailer.

Plot details remain under wraps, but we learned at CinemaCon that the film will pick up two months after the events of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, with Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) still seemingly on the run and presumably on the hunt for the sunken Sevastopol.

Paramount Pictures has released the "Big Game" TV spot Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and, after celebrating the franchise's past, we see more of what appears to be Tom Cruise's last mission as the iconic Ethan Hunt.

If so, the actor will go out on a high, especially if the stunts teased here are any indication of what to expect from the movie. We also see the returning characters who will be at Hunt's side, with Pom Klementieff's fan-favourite assassin, Paris, among them.

Despite reports that, like its predecessor, Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning's budget has spiralled out of control, all signs point to it being money well spent.

Whether it will be a bigger draw than 2023's Dead Reckoning - Part One ("Part Two" was dropped from this movie's title before it was renamed The Final Reckoning) remains to be seen.

It’s been a turbulent flight getting here, but we’ve finally got the trailer for “Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” (fka “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two” and colloquially known as “Mission: Impossible 8”). Thank goodness Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) can still sprint.

In the trailer, which is shown in ultra wide format, we see Hunt — as one has come to expect — running very fast. It also features footage of the sunken submarine that kicks off the events of “Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning,” as well as a callback to the first film that even many who haven’t seen it are more than likely familiar with. Paramount Pictures has released the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Super Bowl spot. The eighth installment opens in theaters, Dolby Cinema, 4Dx, ScreenX, premium large formats, and IMAX on May 23, 2025.

The film is officially described as follows: “Our lives are the sum of our choices. Tom Cruise is Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.” All the previous Mission: Impossible movies are currently streaming on Paramount+.

In what is reportedly the final film of the franchise starring Cruise, McQuarrie said that an audience member at an early screening had quite the reaction.

“We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack.’ And I thought, ‘I guess we did something right,” McQuarrie told Empire, according to GamesRadar.
