Indonesian horror has a new box office champion. “Pabrik Gula” (Sugar Mill), the latest spine-tingler from genre maestro Awi Suryadi, has officially claimed the crown as Indonesia’s highest-grossing film of 2025, conjuring $7 million in local receipts.
The supernatural thriller, backed by powerhouse MD Pictures in partnership with Est Studios and N8 Studios, has mesmerized Southeast Asian audiences with its atmospheric visuals, folklore-drenched narrative, and relentless scares. Drawing inspiration from local legends, the hair-raising tale follows seasonal laborers who find themselves trapped in a decrepit, haunted sugar mill in rural Java, where they battle malevolent supernatural entities.
“‘Pabrik Gula’s’ runaway success proves that audiences are hungry for culturally rooted horror,” said Manoj Punjabi, CEO of MD Pictures. “This is more than a box office milestone — it’s a statement that Indonesian storytelling belongs on the world stage.”

[This story contains major spoilers from the season two finale of 1923, “A Dream and a Memory.”]
No one deserved justice more than 1923’s Teonna Rainwater. And in the end, justice was on her side when, after surviving her harrowing two-season saga on the Taylor Sheridan Yellowstone prequel series, viewers are left watching the Native teenager literally ride off into the sunset in the season two finale.
It’s not easy to recap everything that Teonna has been through. After escaping the abusive clutches of an Indian assimilation boarding school in season one, Teonna, who is of Crow descent, was hunted by the headmaster, Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché), for the majority of season two. The deadly penultimate episode of this season saw Renaud and his partner (Jamie McShane) murdering both the love of Teonna’s life, Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna), and her father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), adding to the lengthy list of people Teonna has lost while fighting for her freedom.

The episode plays like a nearly sweeping two-hour film, answering all your questions. Some of your favorite characters will survive, others will die. And as Cara says, life goes on.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains details from the Season 2 finale of 1923 on Paramount+.
Taylor Sheridan wrapped his Yellowstone prequel Sunday with a Texas-sized episode that resolved the plight of the Dutton ranch — at least for now — as well as the fate of Timothy Dalton’s sadist character Donald Whitfield.
The outcome may not have pleased fans of the epic Spencer-Alex romance, but at least we got to see one character ride into the proverbial sunset: Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), the young woman who managed to escape a horrific Catholic boarding school in North Dakota.
Here, the superb Nieves talks about her final days in Texas, what it was like to shoot those heartbreaking death scenes, and how Father Renaud — er, Sebastian Roché — was actually pretty cool when the cameras weren’t rolling.

General Hospital spoilers and updates reveal alum Sebastian Roché, who played Jerry Jacks, recently made his exit from “1923”. The character he played on that show, a Catholic priest named Father Renaud, was recently killed off.
A Much Loved Villain’s Demise
Everyone has a fascination with villains, and in the series 1923, French-American actor Sebastian Roché excels in this role. He portrays Father Renaud, a Catholic priest whose main goal is to convert others to his interpretation of faith.
To achieve this, he inflicts pain on children, including Teoona Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), who ultimately rebels and kills several nuns. In a quest for revenge,
Father Renaud embarks on a journey across the country to track her down and avenge the loss of the women he cared for. After months of searching, he finally confronts her, only to meet his demise moments later.

General Hospital spoilers and updates tease Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roché) could very well be behind Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) penthouse bombing.
Now that Sebastian’s character Father Renaud has been killed off “1923”, he may have time to reprise his role on Gh.
There Are Several Reasons To Suspect Jerry Jacks
There are several reasons to suspect Jerry Jacks is the one behind the scenes who hired Soliski (Mike Wolfe) to plant the bomb in Sonny’s penthouse. For one thing, Jerry has always been a mercenary, and able to get his hands on weapons and even bioweapons.
Jerry was the one who tainted the Port Charles water with a deadly toxin in 2012, that Emma Scorpio-Drake (Braedyn Bruner) referred to in March 31’s episode.
Plus, in 1998 he planted a bomb in a warehouse that caused a fire, nearly killing Sonny, his brother, Jax Jacks (Ingo Rademacher) and Lucas Jones (Van Hansis...

Taylor Sheridan’s 1923 is barreling toward an epic finale.
The second season of the Yellowstone prequel will end with an explosive two-hour finale event — double its usual running time — when it releases Sunday, April 6, on Paramount+
Paramount+ had not confirmed an episode count when announcing the second season of the prequel series. Season one had eight episodes. All season two episodes are written by creator Sheridan and directed by Ben Richardson.
The season two finale, titled “A Dream and a Memory,” follows a killing spree in the penultimate episode. That episode, titled “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters,” carried with it a body count of seven dead characters: One Dutton was tragically shot dead during an unsuspecting encounter; two villains were savagely and deservedly killed, leaving two other heartbreaking deaths in their wake; and the couple helping Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) during her harrowing journey to Montana froze to death, leaving...

[This story contains major spoilers from the penultimate episode of 1923 season two, “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.”]
“The darkness cannot hide from the light. And I am the light.”
Those are the words spoken by Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) when the priest finally stands before protagonist Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) with a gun to her head in the penultimate episode of 1923 season two.
Since season one, Father Renaud has been hunting Teonna, the Native girl who escaped his Indian assimilation boarding school and left murdered nuns (including Jennifer Ehle) in her wake. He spent the majority of this season tracking Teonna on horseback alongside Marshall Kent (Jamie McShane). When he finally finds her, thanks to a lit fire — after killing Kent over the murder of Teonna’s love, Pete Plenty Clouds (Jeremy Gauna) — Renaud shoots Teonna’s father, Runs His Horse (Michael Spears), and demands Teonna repent for her sins before he kills her, too.
But even in what she believes to be her final moment, Teonna will not relent.

This article contains spoilers for "1923" season 2 episode 6.
Taylor Sheridan's "1923" season 2 is full of dark moments, but episode 6, "The Mountain Teeth of Monsters," might go down in history as the "Yellowstone" franchise's "Game of Thrones."-like "Red Wedding" moment. In this episode, several major characters are laid to rest in cruel and unforgiving ways, and it all ends with Alexandra Dutton (Julia Schlaepfer) fighting for survival in the middle of nowhere during a snowstorm. For the first time in a while, the "Yellowstone" spin-off feels truly unpredictable -- and all bets are off.
With the Duttons set to go to war with Whitfield and his crew over their land, the family is prioritizing Spencer's (Brandon Sklenar) safe passage to Montana, as their enemies intend on assassinating the war hero when his train pulls in. However, the Duttons' focus on Spencer makes them overlook Jack (Darren Mann), who, in the latest installment,...

Teonna Rainwater’s (Aminah Nieves) story with Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) reached its climax. And Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) caught a lucky break on her journey west that ended in devastation. The penultimate season two episode of 1923 delivered death after death. A whopping seven bodies were left in wake of the sixth episode from creator Taylor Sheridan, titled “The Mountain Teeth of Monsters.” Everything that happened will barrel the Western saga into what is sure to be a propulsive season finale, but let’s stop for a moment and mourn what was lost.

This article contains spoilers for "1923" season 2, episode 5, "Only Gunshots to Guide Us."
Taylor Sheridan's "1923" season 2 fixes one of the biggest mistakes on "Yellowstone" by actually giving its Native American characters meaningful storylines. While "Yellowstone" touches upon the displacement of tribes in the United States, the lack of meaningful arcs for Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and other Indigenous characters leaves a lot to be desired in terms of getting the point across. "1923," meanwhile, boasts an emotional storyline about Thomas' ancestor, Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), and her quest for freedom after going on the run for killing some abusive nuns who had it coming.

In 1923, Jennifer Carpenter plays Mamie Fossett, a U.S. Deputy Marshall who’s approached by Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) and the ruthless Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) for help with finding the young indigenous woman who murdered two nuns in season one.
For Carpenter — last seen playing Dexter‘s poor, tormented sister in the eponymous Showtime drama — it’s been the opportunity of a lifetime to play a real-life law dog in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel.

1923 Season 2, Episode 5, titled “Only Gunshots to Guide Us,” is a Brandon Sklenar and Julia Schlaepfer episode, in which they play Spencer and Alexandra, respectively. The chapter continues to depict their struggle—like a dream where you try to reach your destination, but it never ends. The writing is designed to highlight the depth of their love.
In this episode, Taylor Sheridan delves deeper into character development and places them in harm’s way. Surprisingly, after heavy focus on these stars in previous weeks, the episode does not include contributions from Harrison Ford’s Jacob or Helen Mirren’s Cara. At least we get a break from Elizabeth (Landman’s Michelle Randolph) encountering a wolf, a mountain lion, and, I imagine, a giant moose in the coming weeks.

It’s a very unlucky St. Patrick’s Day in Port Charles after Carly’s poisoning led to a life-threatening encounter for Valentin on the March 17, 2025 episode of General Hospital.
From Afterglow to Lights Out
After hitting the sheets with Brennan (Chris McKenna), Carly (Laura Wright) was treated to a surprise delivery of champagne to Brennan’s room. She downed an entire glass before Brennan even got out of the shower, but when she began her second, that was when Brennan noticed the fake label and knocked the glass out of her hand.
Read This: Here’s what’s coming up on Gh.
While Carly passed out after falling ill from something that was most definitely not champagne, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) listened from behind the closed door, instantly remorseful for the poisoning getting to Carly rather than his target.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for 1923 Season 2 Episode 2, “The Rapist Is Winter.”] Dexter star Jennifer Carpenter made her 1923 debut in Season 2 Episode 2, streaming on Paramount+ as of Sunday, March 2. She plays Mamie Fossett, based on the real-life U.S. Marshal of the same name from this era. As one of the first female U.S. Marshals in history, Fossett was a trailblazing figure. Carpenter and 1923‘s take on the historical figure is a fiery but calm presence with an unclouded vision of justice. She had no issue shutting down the sexist (and murderous and racist and generally awful…) Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) in her debut scene, in which Kent and Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) were in Texas asking for help in their hunt for Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves). “You patrol this territory, serving warrants, making arrests, why do I find that hard to believe?” Kent asked Mamie in the episode. “Because you’re a bigot,” she replied without missing ...

Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" franchise -- which currently includes the titular series, "1883," and "1923" -- follows the Dutton family across the span of centuries. Each show boasts its own distinct flavor, but they all share similar themes and hallmarks, such as the displacement of Native Americans, capitalism endangering the natural purity of the American West, and the importance of family. "1923" also repurposes some controversial "Yellowstone" moments, although the prequel series is darker and takes place during unenlightened times, which becomes evident in Season 2, Episode 2.
"1923" Season 1 chronicles the abuse faced by Native Americans in ultra-religious boarding schools, resulting in Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) killing two sadistic nuns and going on the run. With Season 2 now underway, Teonna now finds herself being pursued by Father Renaud (Sebastian Roché) and the ruthless Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane), who've found themselves in Anadarko,...

Jennifer Carpenter made her brief introduction this week on 1923.
The second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone prequel series picked up where it left off with Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves), the Native girl who escaped the assimilation school where she was being abused in North Dakota — killing several nuns along the way — and who is now wanted by the head priest (Sebastian Roché) and a marshal (Jamie McShane) traveling with him on horseback to find her.
When Father Renaud (Roché) and Marshal Kent (McShane) trace Teonna to Anadarko, Oklahoma, they meet with the marshal in charge and are taken aback to see that it’s a woman. It’s there they are greeted by Mamie Fossett, played by 1923 new cast member Jennifer Carpenter in the early 20th century-set series.
When Kent questions her ability to serve the badge because she’s a woman, she promptly shuts him down. “You patrol this territory,...

Aminah Nieves and Cole Brings Plenty had ended the first season of 1923 with new opportunities for their characters, Teonna Rainwater and Pete Plenty Clouds, and their blossoming love story.
The first season of the hit Yellowstone prequel series was a breakout one for Nieves as it tracked her Indigenous character, Teonna, and her epic journey escaping a 1923-set Indian assimilation boarding school run by the Catholic Church where she was abused.
After everything she endured, the season ended with her reuniting with her father (played by Michael Spears) and beginning to fall in love with the son of the man who helped save her, Pete Plenty Clouds (played by the late Cole Brings Plenty). Her final scene featured the three of them riding off to Wyoming in hopes of escaping the priest (Sebastian Roché) and other men who are now hunting her in season two, which returned after two years on Sunday.

The hit Western series 1923, a prequel to Yellowstone, takes viewers over a century into the past, exploring the harsh realities of that era. One of the key themes of the show is racism, particularly the treatment of Indigenous people, which is portrayed through historically accurate storylines.
At the Los Angeles premiere for 1923 Season 2, Dougie Hall, who plays Two Spears, discussed how the show doesn’t shy away from the difficult truths of history. He explained that creator Taylor Sheridan is committed to telling an honest story, addressing past injustices rather than ignoring them.
“He’s willing to talk openly and honestly about real things and things that really happened to Indigenous people,” Hall said. “He sheds light on a lot of that because I think in order to heal from stuff in the past, we need to acknowledge that it happened.”
The series also explores anti-miscegenation laws, which outlawed interracial relationships at the time.

This article contains spoilers for "1923" Season 2.
"1923" isn't an easy show to watch, especially when it comes to the persecution faced by its Native American characters at the hands of the authorities and the church. Season 1 focused on the horrific Native American abuse in boarding schools, resulting in Teonna Rainwater (Aminah Nieves) killing two sadistic nuns and going on the run. With Season 2 now underway, she finds herself being pursued by the authorities, led by the ruthless Marshal Kent (Jamie McShane) and his deputies.
The second season's first episode, "The Killing Season," sees Kent venture into Comanche territory and demand to know the whereabouts of Rainwater. Desperate to get answers from the tribe, he grabs a little girl and points a gun at her head. Kent also seems more than happy to shed the blood of a child if it means completing the task at hand, which isn't surprising...

Taylor Sheridan’s Western series “1923,” a prequel to “Yellowstone,” portrays the realities of surviving in the wilderness — including the political and social atmosphere of the time period.
The show delves into the racism against Indigenous people, such as the systemic abuse in residential schools. Dougie Hall, who plays Two Spears in Season 2, says Sheridan explores actual historical experiences.
“He’s willing to talk openly and honestly about real things and things that really happened to Indigenous people,” Hall told Variety at the show’s Los Angeles premiere Wednesday. “He sheds light on a lot of that because I think in order to heal from stuff in the past, we need to acknowledge that it happened.”
Sebastian Roché plays Father Renaud, a violent priest at a residential school who creates twisted moral justifications for his behavior. “He’s the king of his castle within the laws of God,” Roché said.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, 1923‘s second season is worth watching because the series is brimming with magnetism, flawless writing, thought-provoking themes, and genuinely engaging storytelling. The second (possibly final) season of 1923 remains cinematic. It has honest-to-God star power—not only because the series features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, but also because Brandon Sklenar, after a successful summer with It Ends With Us, has now taken the reins as a full-fledged movie star on your streaming screen.
Sklenar commands your attention with the charisma and magnetism of a young Harrison Ford. You simply cannot take your eyes off him. And with rumors of 1923 coming to a close this season, Paramount+ would be smart to lock in a third, giving Sklenar full studio backing to take the Yellowstone chapter into the future.
