The Casting Society (CSA) announced its 40th Annual Artios Awards winners in feature film, television (scripted and unscripted), short films, commercials, and theater on Wednesday, honoring Oscar top contenders and Best Picture nominees Wicked, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, and Emilia Pérez along with animated feature frontrunner The Wild Robot. My Old Ass and Janet Planet were also winners in the feature categories.

In addition to the film victors, television winners included Hacks, Shōgun, Slow Horses, Palm Royale, Baby Reindeer, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and Queer Eye, while the theater recipients spotlighted The Outsiders, Oh, Mary!, Stereophonic, and Here We Are.

“Wicked,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Emilia Pérez” and “Conclave” were among the winners Wednesday at the 40th Annual Artios Awards, which celebrates excellence in casting in feature film, scripted and unscripted television, commercials and theater. The Casting Society held ceremonies in Los Angeles, New York and London.

Four Best Picture Oscar contenders won their categories at the Artios: “Wicked” (Big Budget Feature Comedy), “A Complete Unknown” (Big Budget Feature Drama), “Conclave” (Studio or Independent Feature Drama) and “Emilia Pérez”. Best Animated Feature Oscar frontrunner “The Wild Robot” picked up another trophy for its haul, while two smaller films, “My Old Ass” and “Janet Planet,” were recognized as well.

On the TV side, a slew of familiar titles emerged victorious: “Shōgun” (Television Pilot and First Season: Drama), “Baby Reindeer” (Limited Series), “Hacks” (Television Series: Comedy) and “Slow Horses” (Television Series: Drama).

The ceremony honors top casting in the year’s films, TV and theater. The celebrations were in person for the first time in three years, taking place in Los Angeles and New York City. Hosts Janelle James, Jordan and Susan Wokoma divided up emcee duties.

Multiple winners included Nina Gold who took home three awards for her work on “Baby Reindeer,” “Conclave” and “Slow Horses.” Bernard Telsey also nabbed three wins for “Wicked,” “Here We Are” and “The Idea of You.”

The Casting Society honored John Papsidera with the Hoyt Bowers Award, Daniel Swee with the Marion Dougherty New York Apple Award and Juliette Ménager with the Capelier-Shaw Award for excellence in casting. Zora DeHorter is the recipient of the Rosalie Joseph Humanitarian Award, which was presented posthumously.

AMC Networks remain hopeful the Emmy chances for its zombie apocalypse property are not dead.

The network announced its Emmy submission strategy for the three spinoffs from “The Walking Dead” universe: “Daryl Dixon,” “Dead City,” and “The Ones Who Live.”

“The Ones Who Live” picks up after the conclusion of the original series, reuniting beloved characters Rick Grimes and Michonne, portrayed by Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira. This series will be submitted for outstanding limited or anthology series, along with its stars in the lead acting categories. Gurira, who wrote the fourth episode “What We,” will also be considered in the writing category, alongside director Michael Slovis. Additional noms will be pursued for Matthew Jeffers and Pollyanna McIntosh in their supporting roles, along with other artisan categories.

“Daryl Dixon,” starring Norman Reedus, will compete in the drama series categories.

Kjersti Paulsen was named the winner of the Semiramis Award for excellence in casting for her work on “The Innocents,” directed by Norway’s Eskil Vogt, at a ceremony Saturday at Torino Film Festival.

The psychological thriller about four kids who suddenly discover they have hidden powers celebrated its world premiere at Cannes, with Variety’s Jessica Kiang praising its “exceptional child performers.”

“The producer, director and I agreed on the importance of finding the right children and gave it the highest priority. All other characters had to wait,” said Paulsen before her win.

“My job is to create an environment where the children feel secure and can join in the role-play we bring them into. Then I need to determine the children’s capacity for empathy, their ability to listen to co-players, imagination and self-confidence.”

In Christoph Willibald Gluck’s opera “Orpheus and Eurydice,” Orpheus must travel to the underworld to reunite with his dead wife, Eurydice. To do so, he must placate the Furies, the goddesses of vengeance, and hold onto his love for his wife.

German director Kilian Riedhof had the opera in mind when adapting Antoine Leiris’ autobiographical book “You Will Not Have My Hate.” The film world premieres on Aug. 12 in Piazza Grande at the Locarno Film Festival.

The book is based on Leiris’ experiences following the murder by Islamic State jihadists of his wife, Hélène Muyal-Leiris, on Nov. 13, 2015, at the Bataclan night-club — one of 130 people killed that evening in a string of terrorist attacks across Paris.

The film begins on that fateful day with Hélène preparing food for their toddler, Melvil, and the couple discussing a holiday in Corsica that they had to abandon so Hélène could pick up some freelance work.

The Casting Society of America has made the first callbacks for the 37th annual Artios Awards. The group today revealed its nominees for television, theater, short films and shortform series.

Netflix leads with 11 noms, nearly double the haul for runners-up HBO and Hulu, which grabbed six apiece. Disney+ is next with four, followed Amazon Prime Video and Nickelodeon, which scooped three apiece. The winners will be feted during the CSA’s in-person trophy show on March 17 at the Beverly Hilton.

Vying in the Television Series – Drama category are The Boys, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Mandalorian, Pose and This Is Us. Up for the Comedy Series prize are A Black Lady Sketch Show, Call My Agent, Pen15 and three series that wrapped their runs this year: The Kominsky Method, Shrill and Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

“Fleabag,” Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s critically acclaimed comedy show, will get a French makeover as the first series from Studiocanal Original, the in-house production unit of Canal Plus Group’s film and TV production-distribution arm.

Studiocanal Original is producing the series with Banijay Studios France, which acquired the local remake rights to “Fleabag” and brought the project over to Studiocanal.

It marks the first scripted show from the new Studiocanal shingle, which is presided over by Arielle Saracco, who remains in charge of Canal Plus’s “creation originale” label. The project is spearheaded by Dominique Jubin, Studiocanal’s former creative VP, who has been a driving force behind Canal Plus’ hit drama series.

Set to start shooting in Paris in January, the half-hour series is being adapted by Jeanne Herry, the up-and-coming French actress-turned-director of the movie “Elle l’adore” and of episodes of “Call My Agent!”, which was nominated for an International Emmy Award.

Known among with-it insiders as the Ampav, the American Pavilion has become a vital part of the Cannes Film Festival over the last 30-odd years. This year’s lineup was announced today, with such special guests as Spike Lee, Wim Wenders, John Cameron Mitchell, Christine Vachon and IndieWire’s own Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson.
