This spring has gotten even more terrific for fans of the enthralling Black Butler, as another season arrives very soon. Titled Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc, Aniplex had the pleasure of unveiling an official trailer for the new season, which will begin airing on April 5, less than two weeks away. This time around, fans will see the Phantomhive House in Germany, where the Queen has ordered them to investigate a series of mysterious deaths.

Emerald Witch Arc is the eighth arc of the manga on which it is based and the fifth season of Black Butler after the Public School Arc, which went into production in 2023 and ran from April 13 to June 22, 2024. Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League, a sequel to the 2018 cult hit Batman Ninja, is a film that revels in its own absurdity while delivering a heartfelt tribute to both anime conventions and the DC Universe. Directed by Junpei Mizusaki and Shinji Takagi, with a screenplay by Kazuki Nakashima, this animated superhero romp picks up a day after the events of Batman Ninja, plunging Batman and his allies into a multiversal mash-up that’s equal parts thrilling, ridiculously gorgeous and surprisingly poignant. This new film doubles down on the over-the-top nonsense of the original, offering a wild ride that’s as much a love letter to Japanese culture as it is a playful riff on the superhero genre.

We’ve known for some time that the Japan-based Korean animator Sunghoo Park is working on an original anime project titled Bullet/Bullet, which seems to be a promising blend of sci-fi and adventure.

And while information related to the project has been scarce, we have received a new trailer that confirms the cast members for the upcoming anime, as well as the July 16, 2025 premiere date on Disney+.

It certainly does look promising, doesn’t it? The animation is great, the character design as well, and it looks like a very interesting blend of several genres, which is absolutely good for an original anime.

There have been plenty of anime endings that have a reputation for being polarizing. This could come for several reasons. Viewers may feel disappointed that the characters didn't get enough time to grow, or that the anime alters material from its manga to move in a new direction. Every anime fan who's watched anime long enough will run into the same problem. They'll start watching a show, fall in love with it, and watch as it climbs to the level of a true masterpiece. Then at some point, the series will lose its way, edging it out of being considered one of the best.

The hero will often outright reject the villain's plan because of their conflicting worldviews or naivety, but the hero isn't always right in anime.

Villains are complex characters and not every villain is downright evil. Sometimes the villain does evil acts for the sake of good, often having a complex moral compass to achieve or justify their ultimate goal. More often than not, anime villains usually make several good points that the hero can't outright reject or immediately counter. The best villains in anime are nuanced and complex characters that challenge the hero in more ways than one.

However, there are characters that have gone through more traumatizing experiences. Many of them are forever changed by their pasts. Some are able to overcome their struggles or end with a happy ending, but lots of them succumb to the trauma and pain they had from childhood.

Ah, "Fullmetal Alchemist." Hiromu Arakawa's breakout manga follows two alchemist brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, on a quest to find the Philosopher's Stone. They tried, and failed, to bring their dead mother Trisha back to life with alchemy — instead of regaining their mother, Ed lost his left leg and Al his whole body. (Ed then gave up his right arm to bind Al's soul to a suit of armor.). Now, only the mythic elixir can help the two brothers heal each other both in body and spirit.

It's one of my favorite anime and a key reason I think about it so often is because it's really two anime in one. Studio Bones adapted Arakawa's original "Fullmetal Alchemist" manga twice, first in 2003 then again in 2009 for a second, more faithful anime known in the West as "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood."

The two shows complement each other by being so different.

When Fujio Akatsuka fans celebrated the manga artist's eightieth birthday, no one could have seen the classic anime Osomatsu-kun being followed up by its sequel series Osomatsu-san. Three seasons later, and anime fans may be craving more of the wacky misadventures these sextuplets constantly find themselves in.
