George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead is getting a new sequel of sorts. Deadline reports that Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, aka the Soska Sisters, are directing a new film called Festival of the Living Dead that will acknowledge the events of Romero's first zombie movie. In development for the free streaming service Tubi, the film will also star Ashley Moore (I Know What You Did Last Summer) and Camren Bicondova (Gotham) in the lead roles. The Canadian Soska Sisters have once again proven that Canadian storytellers are more than the work of David Cronenberg. In what I think is their best and most dangerous work since the overlooked American Mary (2012) you have the subversive On The Edge (2022) which is actually an exercise in sadism/masochism with loads of devilry, nudity, sex, and kink.

I’m not sure what’s more surprising, that I’m reviewing a movie called Death Rider in the House of Vampires or that, after Verotika, somebody put up money for Glenn Danzig to make another movie. But here we are.

As the film opens Death Rider is riding through a desert filled with warning signs and crucified bodies. He leads another horse, with a bound, topless woman on it. She is his entrance fee to Sanctuary, one female virgin. She looks like she probably couldn’t remember when she actually was a virgin but that’s besides the point.

After riding for what seems to be hours and running into some trouble from Bela Latigo he arrives...

Arriving in theaters and on digital platforms everywhere today is Sylvia and Jen Soska’s remake of Rabid, which follows an aspiring fashion designer named Rose (Laura Vandervoort), who is involved in a terrible accident that leaves her horribly scarred and unable to adapt to her new circumstances. Canada’s horror auteur twins, the Soska Sisters, remade their idol David Cronenberg’s earliest and grisliest film.

Canadian filmmakers Jen and Sylvia Soska have been delivering artistic haymakers since they started their careers. It was back then that they self-financed, wrote, directed and starred in the the delicately titled Dead Hooker in a Trunk. Since then, they’ve also created their best and most acclaimed movie to date, American Mary (2012), while also directing a segment for The ABCs of Death 2 (2014), and two movies for WWE Films, the slasher sequel See No Evil 2 (2014) and the action thriller Vendetta (2015).

Their movies are marked by a decidedly feminist point-of-view as well as a gleeful, often outrageous use of gore and visceral horror, so it’s no surprise that they have now taken on the risk of remaking Rabid, one of the early films by their idol and fellow Canadian,...

The Soska Sisters have unveiled a new trailer for their upcoming take on David Cronenberg's body horror classic Rabid. The movie had its U.S. premiere on October 15th at the Screamfest Horror Film Festival. So far, the remake has been getting praise from critics, which is a bit rare when it comes to horror remakes these days. Cronenberg's original came out in 1977 and starred Marilyn Chambers.

The Soska Sisters are hardcore fans of David Cronenberg and made Rabid as a tribute. While the sisters admit they're not fans of the recent wave of horror remakes, they felt that they should be the ones to make Rabid before someone else did it and messed it up. This isn't an exaggeration: It's been close to 2 years since we first got wind of a remake of David Cronenberg's Rabid, to be helmed by Canadian filmmakers Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska (aka the Twisted Twins). But as Jen explained to me personally not long ago, such is the slogging nature of moviemaking-especially in the Great White North. Still, fans of the dynamic duo can celebrate yesterday's news that Rabid has officially gone before cameras in Toronto, where the movie is being shot. The 2017 Women in Horror Film Festival kicks off this September, and the full lineup features several fixtures of the horror genre that are sure to make fans want to aim their car hoods towards Atlanta, including A Nightmare on Elm Street's Heather Langenkamp (and if you purchase a ticket prior to August 30th, you'll receive an autographed photo from the ultimate dream defender).

Press Release: The 2017 Women in Horror Film Festival has announced the official lineup and schedule for the 1st annual film festival to be held in Peachtree City, Ga, just minutes from the heart of The Walking Dead studios and Marvel’s home away from home, Pinewood Studios Atlanta.

Xx is something we have mentioned back in 2013, which included a different line-up. Now, ahead of the Sundance 2017 premiere, we get a trailer to tease us on what we’re going to get!

Xx is a new all-female helmed horror anthology featuring four dark tales written and directed by fiercely talented women: Annie Clark (St. Vincent) rocks her directorial debut with The Birthday Party; Karyn Kusama (The Invitation, Girlfight) exorcises Her Only Living Son; Roxanne Benjamin (Southbound) screams Don’T Fall; and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird) dares to open The Box. Award-winning animator Sofia Carrillo (La Casa Triste) wraps together four suspenseful stories of terror featuring a cast including Natalie Brown, Melanie Lynskey, Breeda Wool and Christina Kirk.

Hopefully, most of you reading this should be familiar with the talent behind the camera. Annie Clark is marking this project with her directorial debut but she is also known as St. Vincent.

Director Lauro Chartrand and writer Nastasha Baron's Blackburn is hitting Canadian markets. Renamed The Blackburn Asylum, this title is already available on a couple of Video-on-demand platforms (Shaw-on-demand & iTunes). It is set to see even more on December 13th. The film, shot on Britannia Beach, British Columbia, is a multi-genred release. The story involves an old asylum and dangerous characters who still live there. Nearly a decade after the short-lived Painkiller Jane TV series starring Kristanna Lokken debuted, a new feature film version is coming together. Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain has come aboard to star in and produce a new Painkiller Jane movie for Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films. It doesn't seem that this project has a writer or director attached at this time, but that may change soon with Jessica Chasatain's involvement.

Deadline reports that Jessica Chastain will produce through her Freckle Films company alongside Lotus Entertainment's Lenny Beckerman (Lake of Fire) and Solipsist Films' Stephen L'Heureux (Sin City: A Dame To Kill For). Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian and Jimmy Palmiotti, who co-created the graphic novel with Joe Quesada, will executive produce. The original graphic novel was published by Paperfilms.

Jessica Chastain is one of the most in-demand actress working today, and has a slew of dramatic parts (including next year’s Woman Walks Ahead) in the works, but now we’re hearing that she’s also attached to star in and produce a big screen adaptation of Jimmy Palmiotti and Joe Quesada’s comic series, Painkiller Jane. Chastain will play the lead role of Jane Vasko, a tough New York beat cop who develops incredible healing abilities.

Painkiller Jane was created back in the ’90s and although she’s never been a mainstream character, she has crossed over with the likes of The Punisher, Hellboy and Vampirella. There was also a short-lived Sci-Fi channel TV series based on Miss Vasko’s exploits in 2007 which starred Terminator 3 actress Kristanna Loken.

Coming close to death gave her the power to be unstoppable. New York City police officer Jane Vasko was nearly killed while undercover, but she bounced back as the vengeful Painkiller Jane in the comic book series of the same name. While a film adaptation has been in the works for quite some time, it now looks like Jessica Chastain will bring the lead role to life.

Deadline reports that Chastain is set to produce and play the starring role in Painkiller Jane. Producing the project alongside Chastain's Freckle Films will be Lotus Entertainment and Solipsist Films, with Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian and Jimmy Palmiotti on board as executive producers (Palmiotti also co-wrote the comic book series with Joe Quesada).

Anyone familiar with the work of Jen and Sylvia Soska knows the identical twin filmmakers owe more than a small debt to the early and mid-career oeuvre of David Cronenberg. Like the acclaimed director, the Soskas are both Canadian natives and specialize in "body horror," the sub-genre exploiting viewers' innate fears of physical disfigurement that was practically invented (or at least taken to a more outré level) by Cronenberg. Over the course of his career, Cronenberg gave us such squeamish classics as 1975's high-rise horror show Shivers, 1983's surreal Videodrome, and the uber-grisly 1986 remake of The Fly. Given these similarities, it's fitting that the Soskas -- arguably best known for their intensely gory body-modification horror film American Mary -- are currently in the process of remaking Cronenberg's 1977 movie Rabid, which starred pornographic film actress Marilyn Chambers as a woman who develops a taste for human blood after undergoing experimental plastic surgery.
