Olatunde Osunsanmi's new TV movie "Star Trek: Section 31" is weirdly retro in its setup, feeling reminiscent of delightfully corny B-movies of the 1980s like Peter Manoogian's low-budget time-travel lark "Eliminators." The main character is Empress Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh), the genocidal tyrant of the Mirror Universe, and she has been enlisted to be part of Section 31, Starfleet's ethics-free black ops organization that handles dangerous secret missions.

The film's cast, however, is rounded out by a rogues' gallery of diverse aliens and specialists, each one enlisted to help the Empress on a vital mission to retrieve a doomsday device. There is the shapeshifter Quasi (Sam Richardson), a none-too-bright cyborg bruiser named Fuzz (Sven Ruygrok), a microscopic organism named Zeph piloting a human-sized robot (Robert Kazinsky), an ultra-seductive Deltan named Melle (Humberly Gonzalez), and Rachel Garrett (Kacey Rohl), a straight-laced Starfleet officer who is there to make sure...

Its mean streak doesn’t get much press, but the hippopotamus is actually an incredibly dangerous creature. They’re so aggressive, they’re officially the deadliest large land mammal on the planet and are said to kill around 500 people every year in Africa. Now their rampage is set to extend to the screen, as Variety reports that the “nature run amok” survival thriller Hungry, which “pits a hungry hippo against a group of tourists,” is currently filming in Malta. Of course, the fact that a killer hippo movie is going by the title Hungry is a nod to Hasbro’s popular tabletop game Hungry Hungry Hippos, but this movie doesn’t have anything to do with Hasbro.

Written and directed by James Nunn, Hungry tells the story of a group of holidaymakers who must fight for their lives against a rampaging hippo on the loose after becoming lost in the Louisiana swamplands.

Shark movies. What to say about the genre? Well, one thing you can say is that genre films featuring sharks terrorising humans are certainly prolific in their production, it feels like every month we get another shark movie of some kind. However, at this rate, there’s not many stories left to tell about shark versus man so filmmakers need the extra special something to make their movie stand out… So what does Shark Bait offer?

Well for a start it comes from director James Nunn, the British filmmaker behind a slew of great low-budget action movies over the years. He originally exploded on the scene with 2012’s Tower Block, before helming the likes of Green Street 3, Eliminators and One Shot, all starring Scott Adkins; as well as lensing The Marine...

In 1948, making a film of the stage play Rope, Alfred Hitchcock decided to try to make it appear as though the action took place in a single take. At that time, the technology didn’t exist to allow him to actually achieve this and so every ten minutes the viewer will notice a zoom on a static object, something that will allow Hitchcock to dissolve and link to the next ten minute take.

In almost 75 years, technology has advanced much further. Today, cameras allow for shooting entire features in a single take and editing has advanced to a point that transitions needn’t be the slow, awkward moments seen in Rope, meaning that films like Birdman and 1917, while shot in multiple takes over many days, can appear to be a single shot.

One Shot is both the title of the new Scott Adkins film, it’s also the film’s gimmick and reason for being made in the first place. Director James Nunn, working from a script by Jamie Russell, has given us a feature-length action film shot in one continuous take.

Needless to say, One Shot keeps the plotting to a minimum. CIA operative Zoe Anderson has been assigned to bring terrorist Amin Mansur (Waleed Elgadi; Agatha and the Curse of Ishtar) from a Black Site to the US for questioning. The base’s commander Jack Yorke doesn’t think that’s a good idea and is refusing to release him.

Screen Media has acquired North American rights to James Nunn’s “One Shot,” a thriller about a team of trapped Navy SEALs that unfolds in real time.

The movie features martial arts star Scott Adkins, who previously worked with Nunn on “Eliminators,” “Tower Block,” and “Green Street 3.” The cast also includes Ashley Greene Khoury of The Twilight Saga fame and “Shooter” and “Cruel Intentions” star Ryan Phillippe. Screen Media will release the film theatrically and on video on-demand in late fall.

“I am delighted ‘One Shot’ has found such a tremendous home in Screen Media for its North American release,” said producer Marc Goldberg. “I know the Screen Media team will do a fantastic job with its release; the film is a nonstop action, thrill-a-second ride and will delight audiences in the USA.”

It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.

Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! It’s just that, outside of the library titles, there isn’t much to go off of.

Production is underway in Malta on survival thriller “Jetski,” which is being shopped globally by Altitude Film Sales.

Directed by James Nunn, best known for British thriller “Tower Block” (2012) and actioner “Eliminators” (2016), the film follows a group of spring-breakers enjoying a weekend in Mexico. After a big night of partying on the beach until dawn, the friends steal a couple of jetskis and take them out to sea, but end up in a horrific head-on collision.

After one of the jetskis sinks, the group finds itself stranded two miles from land on one remaining, broken-down jetski, and struggling with a badly injured friend. With no clear way home and predators circling in the choppy waters below, the true horror begins.

I started watching wrestling in the beginning of 1991 and Royal Rumble was my first ever PPV. By that point, there were only three installments before it and I kept checking it out every January. I’ve written a bunch of articles on the subject on this website, which are updated annually. Whether it’s from owning the box set of the first 20 years of the show on DVD or the creation of the WWE Network, I’ve seen each Rumble match multiple times. There are a lot of matches, sure, but the well has run dry and sometimes I just want more.

If there’s ever a phrase that will have me instantly reaching for my wallet it’s “a Scott Adkins film…” Honestly, nine times out of ten I will buy an Adkins film without so much as seeing a trailer. Why? Filming on the Eliminators began in September of this year, in London. The film is a WWE Studios production, starring wrestling superstar Stu Bennett. Actor Mem Ferda (The Devil's Double) also centrally stars, along with Scott Adkins (Close Range); James Nunn has directed this thriller. A preview of the film's upcoming launch is hosted here. In the story, a former Us Federal Agent must come out of a witness protection program. His home has been invaded and on the run, he is hunted by those who still want him dead. Actor Ferda has something to say about the film and his character. Ferda says "I was thrilled to be cast in the role of Giordani, an Italian American arms dealer. It gave me the opportunity to do a Boston American accent, which admittedly was getting a little rusty." Ferda's latest film is now in the post-production phase, with a release date upcoming.

It wasn’t a great week for King Barrett after losing at SummerSlam in a tag match and then being attacked by his SummerSlam partner, Stardust. He was hit with Stardust’s finisher and rolled out of the ring because he’s been written off television.

Barrett mentioned on Twitter recently that he was filming a new WWE Studios film called “Eliminators” in September. Normally the filming of WWE movies takes about six weeks, so it’s likely that he won’t be back on WWE television for a few months.

In other Barrett news, he also recently changed his Twitter display name to Stu Bennett, which is his real name. He also noted that he was headed to England.
