After raking in a slew of Emmys on Sunday night, bringing the grand total to eight for “Big Little Lies,” it’s clear that HBO would be wise to bring it back for another season. The limited series, however, is based on a standalone novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, who hadn’t written a sequel… yet.

Backstage after the show’s big win for Outstanding Limited Series, Moriarty said, “I’m thinking about it. It’s a beautiful possibility. That’s all I’ll say.”

Stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, who are both executive producers on the series, also weighed in on the show’s possible return. Witherspoon, who had lost the Lead Actress award to Kidman, said, “You already know we’re liars, you shouldn’t trust anything we say. We’re thinking about it, we’re talking about it, we’re discussing it, but nothing definitive yet.

“Big Little Lies” has become one of the biggest victors at the 2017 Emmy Awards, winning the prize for Outstanding Limited Series. The acclaimed HBO miniseries was the frontrunner over “Feud,” “Fargo,” “The Night Of,” and “Genius.” The seven-episode season was written by David E. Kelly and directed by Jean-Marc Valle. Nicole Kidman’s banner year just notched a huge milestone. The actress has won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie thanks to her role as Celeste in HBO’s “Big Little Lies.” Kidman’s performance drew notable praise for how the actress handled her character’s domestic abuse storyline, and she was the frontrunner to win over the likes of her co-star Reese Witherspoon, “Fargo” star Carrie Coon, and “Feud” darlings Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon.

The Emmy is the latest victory for Kidman this year. She was awarded a special 70th Anniversary Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where she premiered “The Killing of a Sacred Deer,” “Top of the Lake: China Girl,” and “The Beguiled.” Later this year, Kidman will be the recipient of the 2017 Actress Tribute at the Ifp Gotham Independent Film Awards.
