Cameron Gellman (Heathers) is set as a series regular in DC Universe’s upcoming Stargirl series. Based on the DC characters, Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. The new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. Gellman is playing an undisclosed DC character. Geoff Johns, who created the Stargirl character in 1999, will be writing the first episode and executive produces with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Melissa Carter. The series is produced by Berlanti Productions and Mad Ghost Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Gellman most recently appeared in Heathers, Mary Harron’s Charlie Says, The Fosters and The Middle. He also played alongside Annette Bening & Elle Fanning in the feature film 20th Century Women. Who
Thomasin McKenzie
Age: 18
Hometown: Wellington, New Zealand
What
In Debra Granik’s Leave No Trace, McKenzie is Tom, daughter to Ben Foster’s Ptsd-affected Will. Unable to cope with society, Will has carved out a subsistence off-grid life with Tom in wooded parkland outside of Portland, Oregon, until authorities intervene and threaten their isolated idyll. Those survival skills are also the real deal. “We learned about what things you can find in the forest to eat,” McKenzie says. “How to camouflage yourself, how to listen to birds’ language, how to build shelters, and how to make fires.”
Why
Comparisons to Granik’s other wilderness drama breakout star, Jennifer Lawrence in Winter’s Bone, may be ham-fisted since McKenzie’s style is all her own, but based simply on talent level, they’re much deserved. McKenzie goes toe-to-toe with the accomplished Foster and more than holds her own. Bringing her...

Paramount Network’s controversial Heathers reboot reached its conclusion (sort of) with Monday’s final hour, in which one student’s quest for prom queen glory was cut tragically short, along with her life.
Though it wasn’t the official finale — a tenth episode, which takes place at prom and wraps the story of Season 1, was banned from airing in the wake of the United States’ epidemic of in-school violence — it had all the makings of one. After accidentally stumbling on J.D.’s preparations to destroy the prom, Kurt became his latest victim, complete with a forged suicide note (this show’s favorite thing!

Parent-company Viacom rebranded Spike TV, earlier this year. The newly minted Paramount Network didn't get off to the best start though, and emblematic of its rough beginning is the rocky road its new Heathers TV show took to the air. First it was postponed, then rescheduled, and then cancelled, because of all the recent school violence. When Paramount couldn't find any takers, they decided to air nine of the 10-episode first season after all, with some content edited out. Are they just making back what money they can, or does this series stand a chance? Will Heathers be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

Two episodes of Paramount Network’s “Heathers” reboot were pulled from the schedule Sunday following the shooting that took place on Saturday at a Pittsburgh synagogue, which left 11 people dead and six injured.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the installments were pulled because the episodes featured active shooter training scenes in the storyline. A spokesperson for Paramount told TheWrap on Monday the decision was made “in deference to the Pittsburgh tragedy.”
The pair of episodes that were pulled from the network’s on-air lineup are currently available via VOD and the Paramount app and website for viewers.

Paramount Network pulled two episodes of its troubled “Heathers” series Sunday, one day after a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue left 11 people dead. The two episodes that had been scheduled to air included a school-shooting-related storyline.
The decision to yank the episodes disrupted the chronology of the series, which Paramount has been been airing in a binge style over the course of a week. The season finale, which had been previously edited to remove a storyline about a school being blown up, is still set to air Monday night on Paramount Network.
“Heathers” has had a tortuous path to the screen. Paramount Network opted not to air two episodes of its Heathers reboot on Sunday night, in light of this weekend’s deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue.
The two episodes, per The Hollywood Reporter, included a storyline that featured the students undergoing active shooter training at their high school. Those episodes are still available to stream, though, on Paramount Network’s website and app and to watch on demand. Monday’s Season 1 finale — which only serves as the finale because the tenth episode was considered “too controversial” and was scrapped — will still air as scheduled at 10/9c.

Sunday night’s episodes of Paramount Network’s Heathers reboot were pulled in deference to the tragic synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh that left eleven people dead, the cable network has confirmed.
Sources tell Deadline the episodes were pulled because they featured a storyline involving high school students undergoing active shooter training. Tonight’s episode/finale will air as scheduled, according to the network.
Paramount Network had initially delayed the premiere of the series, based on the cult movie, and which contains violent scenes and tackles suicide, following the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead. That was followed by a decision to scrap the series amid attempts to find a new domestic home for the anthology. Earlier this month, the network announced it would air the series, which had undergone cuts, in a week-long marathon event beginning October 25 with all nine episodes also available for streaming on Paramount Network’s app and website.

Winona Ryder has had her career ups and downs since she made her film debut at age 15 as a high-schooler who befriends Corey Haim, her bully-targeted classmate, in 1986’s “Lucas.” She reigned as one of the most in-demand film actresses in the ‘90s as she transitioned into more adult roles. Ryder hit an unfortunate speed bump in 2001, after she faced shoplifting charges for stealing $5,500 worth of merchandise from a Saks Fifth Avenue department store. She ended up sentenced to three years of probation, 480 hours of community service and various fines while receiving both psychological and drug counseling.
Ryder took time off from acting between the time of her arrest until 2005, when she appeared in a string of indie films. But her true comeback arrived in J.J. Abrams‘ 2009 “Star Trek” reboot as Spock’s human mother Amanda Grayson. These days, she is best known as single mother Joyce Byers, whose 12-year-old...

Paramount Network will in fact air its once-shelved “Heathers” reboot, despite previous plans to shop the series around to other outlets, the network announced on Wednesday.
The entire season of the dark comedy will be made available to stream on the Paramount Network app and website beginning Monday, Oct. 22. The show will also get a run on the linear network, airing two episodes back-to-back throughout the week.
However, the series will both air and stream without the planned 10th and final episode, which was originally supposed to depict the show’s high school being destroyed in an explosion. Instead, the last two episodes have been re-cut, with the ninth episode to serve as a cliffhanger ending.
“I am beyond excited that American audiences will finally get to see ‘Heathers,'” series creator and showrunner Jason Micallef said in a statement.

The “Heathers” TV series is finally going to make it to air.
The Paramount Network is planning to release the first season of the show ahead of Halloween, but with edits. Beginning Oct. 25, the cable network will air two episodes a night until Oct. 29. Paramount Network’s shelved “Heathers” adaptation has secured international distribution for the show in several European and African markets.
Jason Micallef’s series adaptation of the ’80s cult classic was delayed and eventually scrapped by the fledgling Viacom network last month. Featuring suicides by several high school students and the destruction of a school building, the show was deemed too controversial to air on the ad-supported network in the weeks following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Director Cory Finley’s finely tuned “Thoroughbreds” is like 1989’s “Heathers,” if that dark comedy was artsy, minimalist and contemporary. “Thoroughbreds” is a nasty little piece of business and Finley, a theater veteran, brings out the best leads, Anya Taylor-Joy, Olivia Cooke and the late Anton Yelchin. The trio becomes involved in a murder plot that is as highly unpredictable as it is stark and pitch black.

Director Jim McBride puts retro magic into a rock ‘n’ roll bio about a big talent who was probably more fun on stage than in person. Dennis Quaid hits the right note of insanity for his portrayal of Jerry Lee Lewis’s rise to fame and fortune. Winona Ryder’s hilarious, almost scary bobby-sox Lolita becomes Jerry’s girl bride. Everything’s ducky until the real-life story goes sour, leaving the comic characterizations high and dry.

Paramount Network has put plans to premiere “Heathers” next week on hold. A modern remake of the ‘80s film was originally scheduled to debut on March 7, but Paramount Net said the channel opted to delay the show in the wake of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
The network issued at statement on Wednesday:
Paramount Network’s original series “Heathers” is a satirical comedy that takes creative risks in dealing with many of society’s most challenging subjects ranging from personal identity to race and socio-economic status to gun violence. While we stand firmly behind the show, in light of the recent tragic events in Florida and out of respect for the victims, their families and loved ones, we feel the right thing to do is delay the premiere until later this year.
A new premiere date has yet to be announced.

It was only a few years ago we were mentioning Kevin Costner as one of the actors yet to take advantage of the many prestigious roles available on the small screen.
Well, his time has come!
Starring world-renowned actor and Oscar-winner Kevin Costner, who serves in the lead role, Yellowstone is written and directed by critically-acclaimed, Oscar-nominated screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (Wind River, Hell or High Water and Sicario).
Sheridan recently won Best Director Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival for the universally-lauded film, Wind River.
The impressive cast list for “Yellowstone includes Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille, Dave Annable, Danny Huston, Gil Birmingham, Josh Lucas, Jefferson White, Gretchen Mol, Jill Hennessey, Patrick St. Esprit, Ian Bohen, Heather Hemmons, and Denim Richards.
What an amazing cast, right?

"You cannot hesitate." Focus Features has released one final trailer for Cory Finley's devilishly dark comedy Thoroughbreds, opening in select theaters starting March 9th in just a few weeks. Two of the best young actresses today, Anya Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke, play upper-class teen girls in suburban Connecticut who rekindle their unlikely friendship after years of growing apart. When they get together again, they make plans to take out their stepfather - which they both hate. One of the big quotes on the poster describes this as "American Psycho meets Heathers," which should make you very interested, or not. The full cast includes Paul Sparks, Francie Swift, and Kaili Vernoff. This does look damn good, and it did play at a bunch of festivals, so it may be worth checking out whenever it shows up at an art house theater near you. Watch out. Here's the final official trailer (+ poster) for Cory Finley's Thoroughbreds,...

Dear diary, color me impressed. As a huge fan of 1989’s Heathers, I sat down to watch the first five episodes of Paramount (fka Spike TV) Network’s reboot fully expecting to pull a muscle from rolling my eyes so hard and so often. Instead, version 2.0 of the black comedy made me feel like I’d had a brain tumor for brunch for ever having doubted the potential of the anthology series (premiering Wednesday, March 7, at 10/9c).

Director Sandi Tan puts together a magical documentary about an unrealised film project that celebrates the power of youth and friendship
An unexpected delight, this documentary about Singapore’s only hipsters making one of its only independent films in the early 90s is a highlight of the Sundance programme. First-time director Sandi Tan revisits a time when she and a group of pretentious visionaries shot a feature length film also called Shirkers, the story of an 18-year-old killer roaming the streets having adventures. The result is a joyous and funny recollection of a youth when anything felt possible – and it could be a big hit if it gets the wide distribution it deserves.
Tan’s original film project was a cross between Heathers and Godard and it looks stunning, but we see it only in snatches and hear no original audio. This is because at the emotional heart of the...

Paramount Network’s “Heathers” is technically an adaptation of the 1988 cult comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, but series creator Jason Micallef said the show will still find ways to put a new spin on the story. “It’s 2018, it’s not 1988,” Micallef told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday. “No one’s going to want to watch a girl for 10 episodes follow a guy around, murder people and then whine about it.” So Micallef said he created some “very, very major character changes” for the lead character Veronica Sawyer, played by Ryder in the original movie...
