Paramount Network’s controversial Heathers reboot reached its conclusion (sort of) with Monday’s final hour, in which one student’s quest for prom queen glory was cut tragically short, along with her life.

Though it wasn’t the official finale — a tenth episode, which takes place at prom and wraps the story of Season 1, was banned from airing in the wake of the United States’ epidemic of in-school violence — it had all the makings of one. After accidentally stumbling on J.D.’s preparations to destroy the prom, Kurt became his latest victim, complete with a forged suicide note (this show’s favorite thing!

Parent-company Viacom rebranded Spike TV, earlier this year. The newly minted Paramount Network didn't get off to the best start though, and emblematic of its rough beginning is the rocky road its new Heathers TV show took to the air. First it was postponed, then rescheduled, and then cancelled, because of all the recent school violence. When Paramount couldn't find any takers, they decided to air nine of the 10-episode first season after all, with some content edited out. Two episodes of Paramount Network’s “Heathers” reboot were pulled from the schedule Sunday following the shooting that took place on Saturday at a Pittsburgh synagogue, which left 11 people dead and six injured.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the installments were pulled because the episodes featured active shooter training scenes in the storyline. A spokesperson for Paramount told TheWrap on Monday the decision was made “in deference to the Pittsburgh tragedy.”

The pair of episodes that were pulled from the network’s on-air lineup are currently available via VOD and the Paramount app and website for viewers.

TheWrap has learned Monday’s episode, the season finale, will air as scheduled and that the sensitive storyline in the previous episodes doesn’t continue in tonight’s broadcasts.

Paramount Network pulled two episodes of its troubled “Heathers” series Sunday, one day after a shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue left 11 people dead. The two episodes that had been scheduled to air included a school-shooting-related storyline.

The decision to yank the episodes disrupted the chronology of the series, which Paramount has been been airing in a binge style over the course of a week. The season finale, which had been previously edited to remove a storyline about a school being blown up, is still set to air Monday night on Paramount Network.

The two episodes, per The Hollywood Reporter, included a storyline that featured the students undergoing active shooter training at their high school. Paramount Network will in fact air its once-shelved “Heathers” reboot, despite previous plans to shop the series around to other outlets, the network announced on Wednesday.

The entire season of the dark comedy will be made available to stream on the Paramount Network app and website beginning Monday, Oct. 22. The show will also get a run on the linear network, airing two episodes back-to-back throughout the week.

However, the series will both air and stream without the planned 10th and final episode, which was originally supposed to depict the show’s high school being destroyed in an explosion. Instead, the last two episodes have been re-cut, with the ninth episode to serve as a cliffhanger ending.

“I am beyond excited that American audiences will finally get to see ‘Heathers,'” series creator and showrunner Jason Micallef said in a statement.

The Paramount Network is planning to release the first season of the show ahead of Halloween, but with edits. Beginning Oct. 25, the cable network will air two episodes a night until Oct. 29. Paramount Network’s shelved “Heathers” adaptation has secured international distribution for the show in several European and African markets.

Jason Micallef’s series adaptation of the ’80s cult classic was delayed and eventually scrapped by the fledgling Viacom network last month. Featuring suicides by several high school students and the destruction of a school building, the show was deemed too controversial to air on the ad-supported network in the weeks following the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. In a statement, the Viacom network said its decision to hit the pause button in the series was “right thing to do.”

Paramount Network has put plans to premiere “Heathers” next week on hold. A modern remake of the ‘80s film was originally scheduled to debut on March 7, but Paramount Net said the channel opted to delay the show in the wake of the recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

Nina Tassler and Denise Di Novi are teaming up to try to change Hollywood’s narrative once and for all.

Grace Victoria Cox, one of the stars of the upcoming Heathers television remake, will appear opposite Zac Efron in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the drama centering on serial killer Ted Bundy.

The movie is currently shooting in Covington, Kentucky, and Cox joins a roll call that includes John Malkovich, Lily Collins and Jeffrey Donovan.
