Exclusive: Director Adam Volerich is poised to add to the canon of Christmas cinema with Drink and Be Merry, an indie dramedy starring Yellowstone‘s Jefferson White, which has wrapped production in New York.
Others in the cast of the film, marking Volerich’s feature debut, include Siobhan Fallon Hogan (SNL), Sophie Zucker (Dickinson), Griffin Newman (The Tick), Delaney Williams (The Wire), Billy Smith (The Departed), Brian Anthony Wilson (The Wire), Pamela Jayne Morgan (The Holdovers), Shawn Christensen (Curfew), Casey Wortmann (FBI: Most Wanted) and Wharton Tract.
Pic is set at a struggling New York dive bar in the days leading up to Christmas, 2019. Its protagonist, Chet (White), is a beleaguered bartender in a state of extended arrested development, who must balance taking care of his misanthropic, aging regulars — who have nowhere else to go, and rely on him for far more than pouring drinks — with his naive desires to muster some Christmas spirit.

Twinkle Khanna Once Made An Interesting Revelation About Aamir Khan (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Twinkle Khanna is an amazing woman with a great sense of humor, but acting might not have been one of her strongest suits. Her Mela is still remembered by people, but mostly for the wrong reasons. It featured Aamir Khan and Faisal Khan in lead roles. Aamir is known to be Mr Perfectionist, but during the shoot of this film, he was left heartbroken, as per Twinkle, for a reason. The actress once divulged an intriguing secret about Khan from the film’s set. Scroll below for the deets.
It was a typical Bollywood masala movie directed by Dharmesh Darshan and released in 2000. For the unversed, Kajol was reportedly offered the role of Roopa, but she refused because of Aamir. According to reports, she was worried about Aamir doing multiple retakes. Eventually, the role went to Twinkle.

In the 2014 film, Whiplash, a young man named Andrew is intent on becoming an amazing jazz drummer, leading to a number of intense musical performances that draw on real jazz music. Although Whiplash is often praised for its outstanding performances by Whiplash's talented cast, or its fast-paced directing by Damien Chazelle, what really stands out about this movie is its use of music. It is no wonder that the film won an Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing in 2015. Whiplash wouldn't be the fantastic movie that it is without the thoughtful use of jazz music.
Whiplash may be a movie about music, but it is far from being your typical movie musical. Instead, Whiplash uses specific jazz songs, sometimes over and over again, to emphasize the difficulty of the genre. Andrew is not joyfully playing this music, but is practically haunted by it. He plays so hard that he sweats and bleeds,...

One of the standout memories from my last semester of college was hearing the strong word-of-mouth around the breakout from that year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Whiplash.” I can remember the excitement around a new, potentially generational filmmaker bursting onto the scene, as well as an intense, young actor starting to make his mark in films like “Rabbit Hole,” “The Spectacular Now,” and now this. Moreover, having just binged the HBO prison drama “Oz,” I was thrilled by the possibility of one its ensemble cast members, J.K. Simmons, taking on a role that required him to lean on his more sociopathic abilities.
The first time I saw the film, winner of both the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize, it was followed by a Q&a with Simmons in which he spoke on the animalistic nature of his character, jazz instructor Terence Fletcher, and how, despite Damien Chazelle’s youthful appearance,...

Portland-based indie rock trio Menomena are back with their first new release in over a decade. Stream their surprise three-track EP, The Insulation, below.
The Insulation rotates vocalists on each of its three songs; Danny Seim sings the title track, Justin Harris takes the lead on “Copious,” and Brent Knopf is responsible for the vocals on “Caravan.” As Pitchfork points out, “The Insulation” and “Copious” were separately released in 2010 as B-sides for their album Mines, but were not on streaming until now.
The title track is immersive and sprawling, building in multiple lengthy instrumental breaks. “Copious” picks up the pace with a more playful rhythm, while “Caravan” closes things out with a reverberating, glittering atmosphere.
While Menomena never officially broke up, Knopf did leave the band in 2011 to focus on other efforts — including linking up with The National’s Bryan Devendorf for a project called Pfarmers — making The Insulation his...

By the time Martin Scorsese’s music documentary “The Last Waltz” premiered in 1978, the legendary Americana music progenitors the Band, whom the film explores, had gone from “Cahoots” to kaput for two years.
The 1976 farewell concert at the center of the film was already a piece of rock and roll history by the time the film debuted. Seeing it Oct. 5 at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles in celebration of its 45th anniversary, it’s clear how much history and American music culture was also saying “Good Night” with Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel, Levon Helm and the Band’s unofficial leader Robbie Robertson (who called the group “The Brotherhood.”)
To help sort out the importance of “Waltz’s” place in rock history was music historian Harvey Kubernik, who shared his recollections of attending the concert at the Winterland Theater in San Francisco; music rights firm CEO/founder Olivier Chastain,...

The Ewok movies, Caravan of Courage and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, bring more fantasy elements into the Star Wars universe, blurring the line between science fiction and fantasy. Charal, a sorceress and one of the main villains in Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, could potentially be reintroduced into the Star Wars canon through the rise of the Dathomiri and the Nightsisters. The Ewok duology doesn't have to be recanonized, but characters like Charal could still be adapted to fit within the current canon, similar to how Grand Admiral Thrawn was adapted.
The following article contains spoilers for Ahsoka, Season 1, Episode 8, "Part 8: The Jedi, The Witch, and the Warlord, streaming now on Disney+.
Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor are often overlooked. However, this made-for-television duology incorporates more magic and mysticism into Star Wars’ space opera universe, making the franchise truly a blend of science fiction and fantasy.

She is last of the Mohicans, belonging to a golden era of music, and is the only flag bearer left perhaps in whole of the world who has seen music evolve from basic instruments, to melodies, to synthetic instruments, to club music and what not! You name any new adaptation in music, and Asha Bhonsle’s association with that genre will immediately pop up.
But whatever be the genre in which she is going to render her vocal prowess, one thing is for sure, her voice will not falter to a node. This is perhaps one of the reasons why when Naushad, who had a wonderful sojourn with Asha Bhonsle in the black and white era and till the sixties, when he came back to give music in Dharamkanta (1982) chose Asha Bhonsle to give voice over to his Tawaif song. Intrinsically talented, both, separately and jointly, gave a new direction to Hindi film music. But to achieve this, Asha Bhosle and Rahul Dev Burman had to surmount a major “hurdle” – creating a new identity distinct from their illustrious and established kin: elder sibling Lata Mangeshkar and father Sachin Dev Burman.
And both succeeded – with a combination of luck, support, their own undeniable virtuosity, and above all, their first joint effort.
AshaBhosle – who is still going strong at 90, having worked with four generations of music composers from O P Nayyar to A R Rehman – added a sensuous allure and element of forthrightness for the Hindi film heroine, without becoming risque or boisterous, even as Burman adroitly used pop and jazz to good effect in electrifying film music – bringing the age of Elvis Presley and the Beatles to India.

Nandi Bushell continues to impress with her latest cover rendition of New Orleans Rhythm Kings’ “Tin Roof Blues.”
In the video shared via Bushell’s socials, the young British multi-instrumentalist delivers strictly saxophone-based performance of the leisurely, loose number. Though the typically exuberant performer fit the tone by mostly containing her excitement aside from a few knowing head nods between bars, she also busted out a seamless solo that she boasted in the caption as “all me.”
“It’s almost been 2 years since I got my #yamaha #saxophone,” she shared with the video. “I was inspired by watching Lisa on @thesimpsons. I #Love it. It’s helped me learn about #jazz and #blues opening my mind to lots of new #music.” Ah, if only Bleeding Gums Murphy could see this today. Watch the cover below.

Nandi Bushell has taken on Duke Ellington’s jazz standard “Caravan,” which she describes as “the most difficult drum cover I have ever made.” The performance was inspired by the song’s prominent placement in the 2014 film Whiplash, starring Miles Teller as an ambitious young drummer named Andrew Neiman. Watch it below.
“Learning ‘Caravan’ from the movie Whiplash took me 3 months,” our 2021 Rookie of the Year revealed in the YouTube description. “First I needed to learn new techniques, then memorize all the sheet music. [It] was hard! I pushed myself and practiced so much. It took a week of trying to film. This song takes so much energy and stamina. I needed to concentrate like I had never concentrated before.”
She continued, “It was not easy! I kept on practicing. I love to keep improving and getting better. I wonder how I will play this song in a few more years.

It was way back in 1966 when Vijay Anand’s Teesri Manzil was released. The film turned out to be a smash success and remains popular till date. While ‘O Haseena Zulfonwali Jaane Jahan’ and ‘Aaja Aaja Mein Hoon Pyar Tera’ remain popular till date, courtesy Mohammad Rafi’s exuberant singing, R.D. Burman’s foot-tapping score, Majrooh Sultanpuri’s catchy lyrics and of course Shammi Kapoor’s dance moves, one track which continues to make for a melodic hear is Asha Bhosle’s ‘O Mere Sona Re Sona Re’.
Now in the 50th year anniversary of Teesri Manzil, the film’s leading lady Asha Parekh has paid a tribute of sorts to the Nasir Hussain musical. The 73 year old veteran actress, who continues to make social appearances, has just made her debut on Dubsmash. The song that she chose? ‘O Mere Sona Re Sona Re’.

Popular stalwart of film classics such as The Browning Version and Fanny By Gaslight
Jean Kent, the fiery, sexy, red-haired bad girl of British movies in the 1940s, who has died aged 92, was a fine actor, and clearly enjoyed life, her work and – while it lasted – her cinema fame. While never a top star, she gained a considerable following, and from the 1960s appeared regularly on television. Her film breakthrough came as a result of stage work: after the revue Apple Sauce, starring Vera Lynn and Max Miller, reached the London Palladium in 1941, she was offered a long-term contract, and the first of her Gainsborough Pictures appearances came in It's That Man Again (1943), with another wartime entertainer, the radio comic Tommy Handley.
It took another four films for her to make her first real mark as Lucy, the friend of Phyllis Calvert in the title role of the melodrama Fanny By Gaslight,...

Priyanka recently tweeted that she has, “a killer act up [her] sleeve” for Iifa. She is the younger sister of India's nightingale and melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, but that does not mean that the versatile playback singer and Padma Vibhushan awardee Asha Bhonsle cannot hold her own when it comes to her chosen profession.
With more than 12,000 songs in 18 different languages under her belt, this young-in-spirit singer is set to celebrate her 77th birthday Wednesday, even as good wishes keep pouring in from around the country and the world.
Her legion of fans remains undisturbed even though she has spent a whopping 60 years in the film industry. Over the years, she has not only dispelled her "cabaret singer" title but also gone on to sing in almost every genre of music, be it light, pop, ghazal or qawwali. She has worked with music directors like Khayyam, Shankar Jaikishan, Ravi, O.P. Nayyar, but she reached the zenith of singing career when she started singing for the maverick composer R.
