Mike Flanagan has his hands full with Stephen King adaptations between his upcoming movie The Life of Chuck and the two he has in development: Carrie and The Dark Tower. We don't have much new info about The Dark Tower yet, but a new exclusive from Variety suggests casting has found its Carrie White in Child's Play star Summer H. Howell.

The outlet says a deal is close to being finalized, though none of the people directly involved have responded to requests for comment.

Flanagan's take on Carrie has been in development since October 2024. Amazon hasn't formally ordered the show into a series, but if Howell is cast, then an official pickup is likely to follow. The series is based on King's iconic 1974 novel, most famously adapted for the Oscar-nominated 1976 movie starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.

Despite rumors that Hereditary star Milly Shapiro was in negotiations to play the lead, Variety is reporting that Summer H. Howell is "nearing a deal" to play troubled telekinetic teen Carrie White.

We had heard that Samantha Sloyan was being eyed to play Carrie's mother, Margaret White, but there's no mention of the character at all in this report.

At 20 years old, Howell is already something of a horror vet, having appeared in Child’s Play franchise films Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky, as well as Hunter Hunter, Spirit in the Blood, Time Cut, and Harland Manor.

Summer H. Howell is nearing a deal to star in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming “Carrie” TV series at Amazon in the title role, Variety has learned exclusively from sources.

Reps for Amazon and Howell are not commenting, but sources say negotiations are currently ongoing for Howell to join the series.

“Carrie” was initially reported to be in development at Amazon in October 2024. There has been no formal announcement of a series pickup at this time, but it is believed to be coming imminently. The show is based on the iconic Stephen King novel of the same name.

If there's an unexpected sensation in the realm of television in 2025, it's Max's medical drama "The Pitt." Starring "ER" alum Noah Wyle, the series has become a massive hit for the streaming service. Though not actually an "ER" spin-off, "The Pitt" is bringing that vibe to modern viewers. Aside from Wyle, the real-time medical drama also stars Fiona Dourif as Dr. Cassie McKay, which has made her known to a much wider audience. However, before her turn as a TV doctor, she had a pretty big career as a scream queen.

Dourif, the daughter of Brad Dourif, best known as the voice of Chucky in the "Child's Play" franchise, got into the family business as a young adult. She would go on to star in "Curse of Chucky" and "Cult of Chucky," in addition to working on Syfy's "Chucky" TV show.

Christine Elise has shared the screen with Chucky the killer doll several times over the decades, first appearing as the heroine Kyle in Child’s Play 2 back in 1990, then reprising the role for Cult of Chucky (the seventh film in the series) in 2017 and multiple episodes of the Chucky TV show, which ran for three seasons, from 2021 to 2024. JoBlo’s own Ryan Cultrera was able to catch up with Elise at the Ve Neill’s Vampire Weekend convention in California last month and talked with her about her experiences working with Chucky and interacting with the horror community – and you can find out what she had to say by checking out the interview video embedded above.

In addition to her work with Chucky, Elise may be best known for playing Emily Valentine in 12 episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210, a version of herself in the meta revival BH90210, and Harper Tracy in 15 episodes of ER.

“M3GAN 2.0” is bringing its eponymous killer robot back, and this time, it is giving her another murderous android to fight.

A Chucky reunion is happening on Max's The Pitt, yet the nightmarish and iconic doll is not involved. Instead, viewers will see an appearance from horror icon Brad Dourif, the voice of Charles Lee Ray and Chucky, in the new medical drama, so technically, the 'Good Guy' will be there in spirit. What makes this appearance even more special is that Dourif will be reuniting with his daughter, Fiona Dourif, who stars as Dr. Cassie McKay, a 42-year-old second-year resident. This will not be the first time the retired horror icon and his daughter have shared a screen together. When Dourif reprised his role as the voice of Chucky in the TV series, developed for Syfy and the USA Network, Fiona played a younger version of Charles Lee Ray.

There's an awful lot of hospital horror happening in Max's new medical drama "The Pitt," so it only makes sense that a horror legend is joining the incredible ensemble cast. "The Pitt" follows the emergency room team of a fictional Pittsburgh hospital in near real-time, with each episode of the show serving as one hour in the season's single, obscenely chaotic day. 

In the first season thus far, the team under senior attending physician Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) have already handled their fair share of trauma and death before a mass shooting event at a nearby music festival takes the already stretched-thin doctors, nurses, and hospital staff to their very limits. Despite the quality of the source material, the films based on the works of horror author Stephen King are not always great. The big screen has hosted plenty of masterpieces like The Shining, Stand by Me, and The Shawshank Redemption, but his name is not exactly equivalent to guaranteed success. Cell, The Dark Tower and Riding the Bullet are a few which failed to earn acclaim. And, in the middle ground, where the most divisive movies remain, you will find Thinner.

With Thomas and his son Douglas living in Europe on The Bold and the Beautiful, we haven’t seen much of them. At 11 years old, Henry Joseph Samiri has racked up quite the impressive resume of films and TV shows, and is perhaps best known for playing Douglas. The young actor has many impressive talents and even blew away his fans when he performed a Christmas song that he wrote. Max has revealed the full list of featured programming coming to the streaming service in March 2025. Among the highlights are the arrival of a trio of A24 films: Heretic, the psychological horror film in which Hugh Grant terrorizes two missionaries who knock on his door; Sing Sing, the acclaimed drama about a group of incarcerated men who put on their own theatrical production; and Queer, Luca Guadagnino’s adaption of the William S. Burroughs’ novella of the same name.

This month will also see the premiere of the final season of The Righteous Gemstones, a new documentary on the Boston Celtics, titled, Celtics City, and the premiere of Paul American, a new reality series starring Jake and Logan Paul.

In a horror movie, a villain is only as good as its hero. Who is Michael Myers without Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) in Halloween? Who is Ghostface without Sidney Prescott (Neve Campell) in Scream? The Child's Play films are no different. As terrifying as Brad Dourif is as the voice of Chucky, the franchise would never have taken off if it wasn't for the protagonist who went up against him. Having an adult battle a little doll could have looked silly, so in Child's Play, we're taken down to Chucky's level with the hero being a little boy named Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent). His performance sold an over-the-top plot and made it believable. Following the third film, Andy disappeared as the franchise went in a new direction, but in 2017's Cult of Chucky, he was back and all grown up this time to show that he would always be Chucky's nemesis to the end.

Valentine’s Day might be about flowers, chocolates, and romance – but in horror, love often leads to obsession, betrayal, and bloody revenge. The Best Valentine’s Day Horror Movies 1. My Bloody Valentine (1981 & 2009)

Few films embody Valentine’s Day horror better than My Bloody Valentine. This cult classic slasher follows a mining town plagued by a masked killer seeking revenge on Valentine’s Day.

Devon Sawa became a huge part of the Child’s Play franchise thanks to his multiple roles in the TV series, Chucky.. While he may have been more famous for avoiding Death’s grasp in Final Destination, he was not so lucky when coming up against Chucky’s bloodlust, which led to his characters meeting some gory ends. While the series came to an end after three seasons, the actor’s most recent comments on the show have come with an unexpected positive outlook for Chucky’s chances of another resurrection.

Let’s state facts, like many horror franchises, Chucky has been dead and buried several times, but somehow, he always comes back no matter what befalls the franchise. In the 1990s, Child’s Play 3 became the subject of a “Video Nasty” ban in the U.K. when it was cited as the inspiration behind the murder of a young toddler by two other children.

Back in September, Child’s Play fans everywhere felt mercilessly stabbed in the back by Syfy and USA Network after the cancelation of the film franchise’s spin-off series, Chucky. Following three successful seasons, the title was kicked out of both of its homes, leaving audiences on an insane cliffhanger. Since then, we’ve continued to wonder about the fate of many of those characters, and what franchise creator, Don Mancini, has up his sleeves. Even before the show was axed, the writer and director teased that he had ideas for a feature-length project that would bring the killer doll back to the big screen. Now, Chucky star and all-around horror legend, Devon Sawa, is giving his two-cents and hopeful outlook about the future of the franchise.

After duking it out with death, there’s not much further up the horror chain that you can climb, but Devon Sawa has done that and then some. Sawa appeared in the iconic 2000 film, Final Destination, which kicked-off a franchise that continues to go strong with the upcoming release of Final Destination: Bloodlines. Before that, he entered the horror-comedy arena through the 1999 film, Idle Hands, which is set to undergo a reboot in the near future. More recently, the actor has appeared in multiple parts in Don Mancini’s small-screen Child’s Play takeover, the gone-too-soon Chucky. And, on February 7, he’ll step into what could easily blossom into a new horror franchise via Josh Ruben’s Heart Eyes.

M3GAN 2.0 is hitting theaters this June 27th, and the horror world is buzzing. The original M3GAN, released in 2022, became an instant sensation, transforming from a humble $12 million production into a global phenomenon grossing over $180 million. This sequel is poised to be a pivotal moment for the killer doll, determining whether she solidifies her place as a true horror icon.

M3GAN’s viral success wasn’t just about box office numbers. Her blend of chilling horror and campy humor resonated with audiences, making her a household name. Many compared M3GAN favorably to the 2019 Child’s Play reboot, suggesting that M3GAN achieved what that film failed to: a compelling and terrifying killer doll narrative. M3GAN’s popularity even sparked a hilarious Twitter feud with Chucky, with even Cocaine Bear joining the online fray.

Interestingly, M3GAN’s initial R-18 rating was softened after her dance moves went viral on TikTok and other social media platforms.

Let’s face the facts. It’s been a rough few months for fans of the Child’s Playfranchise. The folks responsible for our pain and torment would be none other than Syfy and USA Network, who chose to can the film franchise’s spin-off series, Chucky, after an incredibly successful three-season run. It’s tough out there for those of us wondering what happened to Jake (Zackary Arthur), Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), and Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson) following that wild Season 3 finale, and, while we won’t have any answers in the immediate future, Netflix is here to help ease the pain. Right now, the 2017 film, Cult of Chucky has sliced and diced its way onto the platform, giving Child’s Play fans a chance to take a walk down memory lane and dry the tears from their eyes — if only 90 minutes.

Blumhouse took off thanks to Paranormal Activity, an extremely low-budget found-footage movie that paved the way for a franchise.

After getting a lot of love from critics, and landing a "certified fresh" score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, verified users have now had their say, with Companion now boasting an equally impressive 94% on the Popcornmeter. Written and directed by Drew Hancock,Companion follows a group of friends on a weekend getaway at a remote mansion owned by a billionaire. Iris, Josh's new girlfriend, feels a bit awkward in the group, and it gets worse when the host, Sergey, attacks her. Iris shows up drenched in blood and in absolute shock. But no worries, Josh can tell Iris to shut herself down at any time. Wait, what?

That's right, Iris is a companion robot. And you would imagine that Companion follows this tried-and-tested sci-fi plot in ways we've seen before. But Hancock,...

Don Mancini’s Cult of Chucky, which brought Chucky into a mental institution back in 2017, is headed to Netflix on February 1, the streaming service has announced this morning.

The seventh installment of the Child’s Play/Chucky franchise introduced the idea of multiple killer Chucky dolls and also firmly integrated original Child’s Play franchise characters Andy and Kyle back into the mix, the film also starring Fiona Dourif and Jennifer Tilly. The events of Cult of Chucky set the stage for the “Chucky” television series, which was cancelled just last year.

The 1990s was a fun decade for the horror genre, with many productions turning into unintentionally hilarious films years later. The '80s saw a peak in the horror genre, and by the time the '90s had rolled around, far less inspired films were being released. The '90s are considered a transition period in the horror genre, allowing filmmakers to play around and experiment, which ultimately produced a lot of films that were less than innovative.

Many of these films are considered rip-offs of the decades' accomplished releases, or they were simply unable to concoct a unique and compelling story of their own. Though the critical and commercial response to these films wasn't the best at the time of their original release, they went on to garner a cult following, being appreciated for their unintended campy tones. Yet another well-received 2024 show has found itself on the chopping block, and this time it's one that was well-received by Stephen King. The past few years have seen the acclaimed horror author turn his creative endeavors to also sharing his reviews on a variety of films and TV shows, with everything from Apple TV+'s Constellation to The Midwitch Cuckoos getting his approval. The horror genre, in particular, has seen plenty of reviews from King, including Blumhouse's Night Swim and Strange Darling.

Though his voice has helped certain shows find success, many 2024 TV releases have still found themselves cancelled after just one season. Among the Mysteries you can solve in Indiana Jones & The Great Circle, "Child's Play" is among the trickiest to figure out at first. This optional side quest rewards you with a powerful combat upgrade if you manage to complete it. However, the instructions for this Mystery are somewhat vague, making it harder to finish than you may expect when you start it.

Similar to the "Timely Arrival" Mystery in Indiana Jones & Tgc, "Child's Play" takes place in the Sukhothai region. Unlike many of the other side quests in this location, you don't have to worry about encountering any enemies during this Mystery. That being said, you do have to explore more locations than you may expect, which can easily get you turned around if you aren't familiar with the Sukhothai map.

The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. Some may argue that this Star Wars show about a pair of Force-sensitive sisters was bad.

As audiences know from the previous "Toy Story" movies, toys are only happy when children play with them, and lost toys have found a way to travel throughout a neighborhood's multiple public parks, burying themselves in sandboxes right when certain preschools break for the day. Lost toys live in a strange state of chaotic bliss. 

Toys that don't get played with, meanwhile, become bitter and evil. This was true of the old prospector Stinky Pete (Kelsey Grammer) in 1999's "Toy Story 2," and it's certainly true of Gabby Gabby (Christina Hendricks) in "Toy Story 4." Gabby is a decades-old talking doll that has wound up in a small-town antique store. No one will buy Gabby, however, because her inner voice box broke many years ago.

After terrifying TV audiences for three seasons, Chucky was canceled by NBCUniversal-owned networks, Syfy and USA Network. The beloved series was a follow-up of the seven films that formed the iconic Child’s Play franchise.

It was a direct sequel to 2017’s Cult of Chucky. While some fans believed the show was declining in quality with each season, the ratings showed consistency.

Don Mancini perfectly balanced scary and campy in the series that explored another evil plot involving the Good Guy Doll, Chucky, which possesses the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray.
