In The Voice Season 27 season premiere on Monday, Adam Levine made his return to the big red chairs after taking a hiatus from the show following Season 16 in 2019. This season is Adam’s 17th as a coach and John Legend‘s 10th, back after one season away. In that season away, Michael Bublé won the show as a coach for the first time with Filipino powerhouse vocalist Sofronio Vasquez. Appearing on the show three times before as the “Comeback Stage” coach or an advisor, Kelsea Ballerini rounds out the new panel as the coach of her own team for the first time.
This season, each coach will select 12 artists to join their teams through the Blind Auditions, sight-unseen turning their chairs for any vocalist they believe can win. Coaches have one block available to stop an artist of their choice from choosing that coach as their mentor. They can also...

Roger Pratt, a famous British photographer known for his striking visual style, has died. He was 77 years old. The British Society of Cinematographers (Bsc) announced his death and said he had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease that started early.
Pratt’s career spanned over forty years, during which time he established himself as one of the most adaptable directors of photography in the film business. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his work on “The End of the Affair” (1999) and worked with many innovative directors.
While filming “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” (1975), he and Terry Gilliam formed a successful relationship out of the blue. While shooting the Bridge of Death scene, Pratt, who was then a clapper loader, amazed Gilliam. Gilliam remembered, “This guy said, ‘Just give me a moment,’ and in a few minutes, he had run down the mountain, crossed the river, run up the other side,...

Music is one of the most universal things that unites us all. We can all relate to that one song that has defined us in some way. To celebrate those moments, The Masked Singer brought back "Soundtrack Of Your Life" night. The three remaining celebrity acts are going to sing songs that have played a special part in their lives. And perhaps, they will lead to some important clues before their unmasking. To kick off the evening, Ship, Buffalo, and Woodpecker unite for a performance of "High Hopes" by Panic! At the Disco. It's a fun performance that gives us a reminder of just how strong this group of artists are. Losing any of them is going to be tough.

“The Masked Singer” had its first double elimination of the season on Wednesday night, sending two performers packing — or, in at least one case, pecking? — and one to the quarter finals.
It was “Soundtrack of My Life” night on the Fox competition, bringing performances of “High Hopes” by Panic! At The Disco — a group number to start the show — followed by individual renditions of songs specifically close to the contestants including “Because The Night,” “Put Your Records On,” and “Bittersweet Symphony.”
In the end though, only one could move on and that one was Buffalo. That meant the end of the road for both Woodpecker and Ship, and they both brought out varying guesses from the judges.
Robin Thicke thought Woodpecker might be “Players” star Liza Koshy, while Ken Jeong thought it might be creator and star of “Abbott Elementary” Quinta Brunson. Those were both incorrect though, as Woodpecker was...

Spoiler Alert: Details follow for Season 12, Episode 3 of “The Masked Singer,” “Soundtrack of My Life Night,” which aired October 9 on Fox.
I don’t want to wait, for “Masked Singer” to be over/ I want to know right now, who will it be?
You’re in luck, Dawson. Revealed on Wednesday night’s edition of “The Masked Singer” were two eliminated celebrities: Singer Paula Cole, whose hits include “I Don’t Want to Wait” (used famously as the theme song for “Dawson’s Creek”), as well as “Black-ish” star Marsai Martin.
Cole was revealed to be the star under the Ship costume, while Martin was singing under the guise of the Woodpecker.
Panelist Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg figured out the Ship was Paula Cole. Ken Jeong though it was Alanis Morissette. Robin Thicke named Amy Lee from Evanescence. Rita Ora said it was Sarah McLachlan.
“I did not know about the show,” Cole told Variety.

David Gilmour’s ‘Luck and Strange’ Is a Sometimes Beautiful, Sometimes Chilly Dark Night of the Soul
The most intriguing song on Luck and Strange, David Gilmour’s first solo album in nearly a decade, is a dark-mirror reflection of his own artistry: a rendition of the Montgolfier Brothers’ sardonic 1999 dream-pop song “Between Two Points,” sung by his daughter, Romany.
The original song was a slow-building echo of Pink Floyd’s realism, an impressionistic portrait of failed communication and a related sense of resignation. Refracted through the Gilmours’ lenses, “Between Two Points” feels starker and uncanny, as Romany plays the keyboard on a harp and sings, “Just...

“High Hopes is a workplace reality series following Belarus-born brothers Slava and Mishka, and their stoned crew through the trials and tribulations of taking their cannabis business to new heights,” reads Hulu’s synopsis. “As one of the oldest cannabis dispensaries in Hollywood, Mmd attracts a wild mix of weed-loving customers and is a home away from home for their Og employees who work hard and smoke harder! This season builds to their biggest day of the year—4.20—as the gang attempts to expand nationwide and release their own top-shelf cannabis brand. Will they find what they’re looking for or will their hopes go up in smoke?”

There’s certainly no shortage of themes when it comes to reality television these days, but Hulu is ready to bet that you’ll want to ignore Physical 100 and Selling Sunset in order to check out what happens in High Hopes. The workplace reality series has pretty unique setting: It centers around the day-to-day lives of workers from Mmd — a famous cannabis store in Hollywood. Hulu decided to premiere the first season of the series on… you guessed it, April 20.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Hulu has announced a very appropriate April 20 release date for a new unscripted series set in a Los Angeles marijuana dispensary that hails from executive producer Jimmy Kimmel.
High Hopes is a six-episode series described as a workplace reality series following brothers Slava and Mishka as they try to take their marijuana business to new heights with the help of a motley crue of red-eyed staffers.
The stoner siblings operate Mmd, which is one of the oldest marijuana dispensaries in Hollywood, but they’re trying to grow the business beyond its swanky storefront, as they want to expand nationwide as well as launch their own top-shelf line of cannabis products.
Kimmel partnered with ITV America to document all the fun — and the chaos — in the run-up to the dispensary’s biggest day of the year — 4/20. The talk show host executive produced High Hopes under his production company Kimmelot alongside Kimmelot president Scott Lonker,...

Hulu plans to celebrate April 20 with Jimmy Kimmel.
The Disney-backed streamer has handed out a six-episode series order for High Hopes, a docuseries following two brothers running a cannabis shop in Los Angeles with Kimmel on board to exec produce.
Hulu describes High Hopes as a “workplace reality series following Belarus-born brothers Slava and Mishka and their stoned crew through the trials and tribulations of taking their cannabis business to new heights. As one of the oldest cannabis dispensaries in Hollywood, Mmd attracts a wild mix of weed-loving customers and is a home away from home for their Og employees who work hard and smoke harder! This season builds to their biggest day of the year — 4.20 — as the gang attempts to expand nationwide and release their own top-shelf cannabis brand. Will they find what they’re looking for or will their hopes go up in smoke?”
The series will, fittingly,...

Hulu has greenlit an unscripted series set in a Los Angeles marijuana dispensary. So, emphasis on the “green.” And the “lit.” This is fun.
The TV-ma series, titled “High Hopes,” hails from executive producer Jimmy Kimmel as well ITV America. It will consist of six episodes and will debut on April 20, naturally.
The official description for the series states: “’High Hopes’ is a workplace reality series following Belarus-born brothers Slava and Mishka, and their stoned crew through the trials and tribulations of taking their cannabis business to new heights. Exclusive: Fresh off success with the acclaimed docs Sly and Willie Nelson & Family, respectively chronicling the lives and careers of Sylvester Stallone and the iconic same-name country artist, Thom Zimny has signed with Artists First. The production and management company will look for opportunities to help the filmmaker showcase his talents in the narrative feature world.
An Emmy and Grammy Award-winning director, producer and editor, Zimny co-directed Willie Nelson & Family with Oren Moverman. The project marked the first authorized doc on the life and career of Nelson, premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival before debuting on Paramount+.
Examining Stallone’s decades-long through Hollywood, the Zimny-helmed Sly debuted on the streamer after closing out TIFF last fall. Up next for the multi-hyphenate is The Beach Boys, a doc on the beloved surf rockers, co-directed with Frank Marshall for Disney+, which will be released later this year.

Updated, with comment from Ramaswamy’s campaign: Eminem wants Vivek Ramaswamy to lose “Lose Yourself” and other rap works from his campaign’s playlist.
Music rights management service BMI sent Ramaswamy’s campaign a letter notifying them that Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, had objected to their use of his compositions. (Read the Eminem letter). The BMI attorney, Pamela Williams, also informed them that the Eminem works are being removed from a BMI license agreement with the campaign.
“BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thereto,” Williams wrote in the letter, which also was obtained by Deadline.
Ramaswamy drew huge attention for performing Eminem’s Oscar-winning 2002 hit “Lose Yourself” at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
After the misfire that was The Amityville Haunting, I was worried that the so-called unofficial sequels in “the franchise” would all be absolute dreck. Obviously we’re grading on a scale when it comes to low budget Dtv films, but there’s still plenty of room for ingenuity and surprises regardless of funding.
Thankfully The Amityville Asylum, a 2013 UK production, represents something of a rebound. Writer/director Andrew Jones had abandoned found footage in favour of a more traditional approach to tell the story of Lisa Templeton (Sophia Del Pizzo), a young woman who interviews for a job as a night cleaner at the relatively new psychiatric institute, High Hopes.
Obviously since this is an Amityville film, there’s a tangential connection...

Schulman died Saturday of natural causes at his home in Santa Monica, his son, Peter Schulman, told The Hollywood Reporter.
In two late-career triumphs, Schulman was recruited by Francis Ford Coppola to write the biopic Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988), and he scored an Emmy nomination and a Humanitas Prize in 1994 for his teleplay for HBO’s And the Band Played On, an adaptation of Randy Shilts’ nonfiction book about the onset of AIDS.

We would still trust Andrea Zuckerman to edit a newspaper, but after watching Monday’s 9-1-1 premiere, we’d be less confident letting her pilot an aircraft.
Gabrielle Carteris guest-starred as the co-pilot of a blimp that crashed into a stadium full of soccer fans — all to the tune of Panic! At the Disco’s “High Hopes,” because of course. And just like that, the 118 did what the 118 does, springing into action to rescue the pilots as well as the panicked crowd. Athena even got to fill in as a part-time heart surgeon, which is always a fun surprise.

U.K. director Mike Leigh directs films in a wide range of moods but his working-class dramas are what made his name. All or Nothing is an emotionally punishing story of everyday life on a lower rung of a stagnant economy, where nobody has dreams and pessimism is the order of the day. The bitterness and anger are most evident in the abusive attitudes and verbal brutality from one generation to the next, even with the caring, sensitive Penny (Lesley Manville) and the inoffensive Phil (Timothy Spall). Leigh’s players craft heartbreaking characters whose individual miseries can’t be dismissed. We invest heavily in the hope of a positive outcome even as everything we see says, ‘no.’ Yet the film’s honesty doesn’t want us to give up on these people.

Jon Gregory, editor of such films as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and In Bruges has died, a representative confirmed to Deadline. He was 77.
Gregory worked with Mike Leigh across the director’s storied career, from an early short called The Short & Curlies to one of Leigh’s first features, High Hopes, to some of the director’s best-known work — such as Life Is Sweet, Naked and Secrets & Lies — to one of his most recent works, Peterloo. Leigh remembered his frequent collaborator in a piece posted by The Guardian today.
In it, Leigh praised Gregory’s ability to compose complex component parts into a cohesive whole. “He brought to the task his unique characteristic skill, imagination, sensitivity and sophistication, while, as always, staying true to the material,” wrote the director. He praised Gregory’s sense of when not to edit, as well.

This article contains nothing but spoilers for Loki episode 1. We have a spoiler-free review here.
Marvel’s Loki episode 1 has finally arrived on Disney+! And in the grand scheme of things, this one is much closer to WandaVision than The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in terms of its tone, weirdness, and overall sense of mystery. The halls of the Tva are packed with obscure Marvel Comics lore and hints of what’s to come for the MCU, and we’re here to try and help you make sense of all of it.
The MCU and Loki Timeline
It’s appropriate that the first thing we see in Loki is a scene from Avengers: Endgame, the time-iest, wime-iest Marvel movie of them all (so far) and whose timeline branching/headache inducing time travel rules are crucial to the central concepts of Loki.

Since he made his MCU debut a decade again, Loki has been a fan-favorite character. After making scene-stealing appearances in a half a dozen MCU films, Loki will now star in his own Disney+ show, Loki. The show picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame as the alternate-timeline Loki must work with the Time Variance Authority to fix the timeline and combat a greater threat.

Because Loki involves time travel, there is a possibility for characters from previous MCU movies to return. In addition, given that WandaVision and Falcon and the Winter Soldier both introduced important new characters from the comics, the show is likely to introduce new characters as well.
