Shivachandran is a playboy who is indulged by his mother . His grand parents dote on him .His grand father Charu Hasan often rebukes him for his loose values. He uses and throws women who are more than willing to come to him for his riches. Mahalakshmi lives a middle class life in his town . Their paths often meet and he tries to invoke her interest in him and she keeps refusing his advances. His friend Senthil ( equally rich but cultured) sees her and takes his proposal to her. Both famiies agree happily. Senthil writes letters to her which is delivered by a servant boy. She too receprocates by responding to his letters. They decide to meet in the night . This goes on for 2...3 .. subsequent nights . She realises it was ShivaChandran all along who has been fooling her in the guise of Senthil ( her would be ) . Whent his truth comes out , the boy's side backs out . Shivachandran takes his proposal to her to humiliate her further. Her father accepts as there is no way out . Shocked humiliated frustrated insulted she quitely accepts her fate. When he again insists on meeting her at nights before the marriage ,she agrees and this time sends another spurned girl who wanted revenge from him. Its his turn to be humiliated. In the end, she ends up killing him in full glare of public . A fine movie . Kamal Hasan , Thengai are wasted in silly roles . Mahalakshmi has a cute smile and middle class looks in her cotton sarees . Both main heroes are adequate for their parts . OVer all a family fare.
