BFI deputy CEO Harriet Finney said she is very optimistic the Independent Film Tax Credit (Iftc), or enhanced audio-visual credit for lower-budget film, is on track to be ratified under the new UK government.

”I assure you, there is a lot of work taking place behind the scenes,” said Finney, speaking at Screen’s ’The Future of UK Film’ Summit, held at the BFI Southbank yesterday (September 24).

The British Film Institute (BFI) has unveiled the line-up of speakers and events taking place at the Cannes UK Pavilion, including talent talks with Santosh filmmaker Sandhya Suri and Birds and Kinds Of Kindness director of photography Robbie Ryan, as well as panel discussions on the historic UK independent tax credit and a conversation with representatives from UK film funders from across the nations and regions.

Suri will be joined by UK producer Mike Goodridge from Good Chaos and Eva Yates, director of BBC Film, to share the journey behind Suri’s narrative director debut, which plays in Un Certain Regard.

UK outfit Bankside has boarded world sales on Brides, the debut feature from acclaimed theatre director and Screen Star of Tomorrow 2023 Nadia Fall, as production wraps.

The multi-camera project — formerly titled Kids Matter Now and Bossy — follows Liu’s Devin, a diva boss with no patience for working parents. But when Devin adopts a baby of her own and has a change of heart, her mother-of-three assistant becomes an unlikely mentor, upending the office dynamics.

You’ll have to excuse me. Lately I’ve been gravitating towards a particular corner of the genre room, one in which a lot of films clamor for space and I don’t always recognize the labels. Brides of Blood (1968) is in that corner, one in which Filipino exploitation meets old fashioned horror tropes to the advantage of both.

Released at the end of May stateside by the Philippines' own Hemisphere Pictures, Brides of Blood did well for the company in drive-ins everywhere - well enough that two more sequels followed, Mad Doctor of Blood Island (also ‘68) and Beast of Blood (1970). But Brides is actually the second in what came to be known as the Blood Island series; this was preceded by Terror is a Man (1959) almost ten years prior.

Fox still intends to shoot all six of the pilots it ordered this cycle ahead of the pandemic-forced production shutdowns and delays that hit the U.S. in mid-March, the network announced Thursday.

The broadcaster says it’s extended the options for all the projects, including single-camera comedies “Pivoting” and “This Country,” as well as dramas “The Big Leap,” “Blood Relative,” “The Cleaning Lady” and an untitled drama that follows kids attempting to make a shot-for-shot remake of Steven Spielberg’s “The Goonies.” However, there is currently no timeline set to begin production on the pilots amid Covid-19.

If ordered to series, these six pilots — which are all co-productions between Fox Entertainment and their respective studios — would join a lineup of new shows at Fox that includes Mayim Bialik-led comedy “Call Me Kat,” Nick Offerman and Jenny Slate’s animated series “The Great North,” and “Housebroken,” another adult cartoon,...

ABC is beginning to make decisions about its pilot slate as the network looks ahead to resuming production in the coming months.

Five pilots will begin shooting “once production can safely begin,” the network said Monday. ABC will extend actor options for the dramas “Rebel” and “Harlem’s Kitchen,” as well as the comedies “Bossy,” “Home Economics” and “Work Wife.”

TheWrap has also learned that three pilots are not moving forward, including “Riverdale” creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa’s sexy Dracula pilot “The Brides” and the “Thirtysomething” sequel series featuring the original cast. The Jason Lee-led comedy “Valley Trash” is also being scrapped.

Three other pilots — “Adopted,” “National Parks Service” and “Triage” — will be rolled over into a second cycle. Decisions about the survival drama “Wreckage,” the comedic western “Prospect” and the new teen comedy...

ABC intends to shoot five pilots once production can safely resume and is rolling three projects to its next pilot cycle.

The network is picking up the cast options for the five projects that it has committed to producing this year through to September 30.

This includes dramas Rebel, starring Katey Sagal and Andy Garcia and Delroy Lindo’s Harlem’s Kitchen, as well as comedies Bossy, which was formerly known as Kids Matter Now, Topher Grace’s Home Economics and Work Wife.

Rolled over into its ‘second cycle’ development are Adopted, National Parks Service, which was formerly known as Isb and Triage.

That leaves Prospect, Wreckage and the Untitled Kapnek/Holland Project, which was formerly known as Wild Child.

This comes as it has also decided not to move forward with the reboot of Thirtysomething, Valley Trash and Brides.

A trio of ABC pilots received bad news on Monday: thirtysomething(else), Brides and Valley Trash will not be moving forward at the network, TVLine has learned.

thirtysomething(else) would have served as a sequel to the Alphabet Net’s 1987 drama thirtysomething, with original series creators Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick back to write and direct. With a cast that included Supergirl alumni Chris Wood and Odette Annable, Outcast‘s Patrick Fugit and This Is Us‘ Auden Thornton — as well as several stars of the original show — the potential series planned to follow adult versions of the thirtysomething children.

Netflix has been the saving grace of millions during the quarantine that has forced everyone inside in the midst of our ongoing global pandemic. As a matter of fact, Us Netflix subscribers are averaging 3+ hours a day on the streaming service, indicating that a fairly substantial part of everyone’s lives is catching up on movies or binging their favorite shows. The network on Wednesday handed out a pilot order to drama The Brides, a Dracula-inspired drama from Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and prolific producer Berlanti.

Originally developed for NBC in 2015 (when it earned a script order), The Brides is a family drama described as a sexy contemporary reimagining of Dracula. The drama revolves around a trio of powerful female leads and features strong horror elements. The Twilight actress, 31, and Khoury, who is a partner in Lokai, tied the knot on Friday in San Jose, California.

“The ceremony was beautiful,” a source tells People, adding that the couple came up with a unique way to decide who would read their vows first.

Serena Williams is still dreaming of her wedding day, specifically of her custom Alexander McQueen gown!

The tennis star, who married husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in November, shared never-before-seen photos from her wedding dress fittings with creative director Sarah Burton on Instagram Tuesday, in coordinance with her new Brides magazine cover.

“When everything comes together for your wedding with a @alexandermcqueen Wedding gown by Sara Burton,” Williams, 36, captioned her two behind-the-scenes photos. “I’m missing the fittings! Dream world My dear Sara Burton I love you so,” she added.

Fun fact: Burton also designed Kate Middleton‘s wedding dress!

The Cairo International Film Festival ended its 36th year with a glitzy ceremony [pictured] below the ancient pyramids on Tuesday.

In an attempt to move forward from previous years when films were overshadowed by protests, or when the festival was altogether cancelled in both 2011 and 2013 due to political upheaval, the Minister of Culture, Gaber Asfour announced “this festival is a fresh new start.”

From actresses Basma Hassan, Lyla Elwi and Ghada Abdel Razek, actors Mahmoud Hemida, Asser Yasin and Tamer Habib to filmmakers Mossad Fouda and Khaled Youssef, a bevy of Egypt’s notable talent were present to help celebrate the conclusion of the ten day event that opened on Nov 9 at the historic Citadel.
