Tonight's episode began with another obvious yet still true observation from Jughead - that we often wear masks that cover who we really are. Although this episode was written and filmed before the Harvey Weinstein/Louis Ck/et al stories broke, its impossible to view it outside of the context of that news cycle and how it gave rise to the #metoo movement. There's a lot going on in this week's episode but the most important element here is far and away the Cheryl/Nick/Veronica storyline. The family of the guy who wrote "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" says they've been getting nothing but lumps of coal, when they should've been cashing in big on the holiday classic. The tune was written by Haven Gillespie way back in the 1930s. Haven's been dead since 1975, but his family says it entrusted Memory Lane Music Group to continue collecting royalties on Gillespie's catalog. He also wrote, "You Go to My Head" and...

TMZ reports that a much-ballyhooed auction of items belonging to the late Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds is causing concern in some areas. On a high profile "Good Morning America" segment, the show took a tour around Fisher's home, guided by her brother Todd Fisher. In the segment, Todd-accompanied by the correspondent and the representative of the auction house, Profiles in History, take a cheery walk through Memory Lane, pointing out various items and relating anecdotes about them. The concerns raised relate to certain "Star Wars" collectibles that were being represented as having belonged to Carrie Fisher. TMZ reports that at least some of them appear to have been purchased by Todd at "Star Wars" auction that took place after his sister's death. Profiles in History had hired a firm, Cga, to verify the authenticity of the items but apparently the company ensured that, while the collectibles were legitimate,...

It's going to be a walk down memory lane on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 9. Even though our merry band of vampires grew up and moved on, the Miss Mystic Falls pageant remains.
Caroline's preparing a new crop of teens to take on the crown, and Sybil's along for the ride. (Of course she is.)
Still in search of the artifact, Sybil uses Damon's memory of his first dance with Elena to try and edge closer to finding the thing she seeks.
Matt, meanwhile, has a run in with Seline, who seems to be on Team Good Guy. Can she be trusted? Eh. Probably more than her sister.
Bonnie and Enzo return from a romantic trip abroad, and Caroline's not very sure she likes what she sees when they get home.

I recently posted a Joe Walsh song on my Facebook wall and the reaction was mixed. One commenter wrote, "Walsh always struck me as the real-life Spicoli, and that was about as seriously as I could take him." This is a common misconception about Walsh.
Walsh has had a music career of over five decades. There are many, many people who know of him mostly as a member of the Eagles (since 1975) who had a hit in 1978 with a funny song, "Life's Been Good." Yet Walsh was a music biz veteran of eleven years’ standing when Hotel California was released in 1976; he would not have been recruited into the Eagles if he had not already established himself as such a distinctive guitarist that he could instantly give them the rock cred they so desired. Already on his resume were the killer riffs of "Rocky Mountain Way," "Turn to Stone," "Walk Away,...

The legendary VFX master has gone to Kickstarter to help fund his new Vr/Ar Card Game and today he's announced some cool new goodies for backers a long with some updates on the game, includinga tantalizing Star Wars discovery. Come inside to learn more.
I've already talked about Phil Tippett's HoloGrid: Monster Battle game in the past. It's a nifty looking card battler that combines Ar tech to make for a more engaging video game. They've gone to Kickstarter to make it a full reality (much like our own card game), and today some new announcements have been made.
For one, Tippett himself is going to do an Ama this Thursday to talk about the game and his illustrious career. Secondly, some local comic shops are holding demos of the game for fans to check out, and lastly, some never before seen Star Wars filming photos have been found.

Nassau County in Long Island New York once (maybe still) had the highest paid police force in the country. Some of the homes in the Five Towns area of the county were so grand as a young child I thought they were department stores. That highly paid police force made sure nary a worry would the residents of Inwood, Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, and Hewlett have.
There was very little crime in Nassau County and no black people. The only place you would see people of color in Five Towns were the shopping malls or the cotton fields. Cotton fields? Can’t say I ever saw them, but I was born free.

Bruno: "That was warming up nicely. The samba has a carefree feel to it, but a couple of times there you got a little tangled and it kind of stopped it a little bit. The technique is actually very very hard. It was a bit on and off."

There are few movies that immediately spring to mind as being directly influenced by William Hurt’s exquisite and unsettling turn in 1980’s Altered States, and yet, Memory Lane seems like one of them. In its irregular tone and surreal atmosphere, director Shawn Holmes makes a no-budget debut that shoots for Christopher Nolan and David Cronenberg, and is perhaps more admirable for its ambition than execution. With audio that sounds like it’s from the onboard mic and the all-telling limited locations of a small flick, the film never elevates beyond a promising student thesis from a kid who took Post-Modernist film courses and stayed up late at the library exorcising the demons of David Lynch’s psyche.

I can’t accept the idea that Joe Franklin is gone. He seemed ageless, as much a part of the New York scene as the Brooklyn Bridge. If you didn’t grow up in the New York City area his name might not resonate; unless you remember Billy Crystal’s hilarious (and accurate) portrayal of Joe on Saturday Night Live in the 1980s. Crystal’s affectionate impression was based on a lifetime of watching Joe. He was a fixture on local television from 1950 to 1993, hosting a daily talk show that was strangely endearing. Originally called Joe Franklin’s Memory Lane, it featured old movie clips and records from his enormous collection, along with an array of studio guests. Having started out on...

Miss Sarah “Woman With Opinions in 1924″ Bunting made yet another dramatic appearance in Sunday’s Downton Abbey, nearly igniting World War Three Two at the Crawleys’ dining room table.
Her lessons with Daisy have apparently being going well, which of course led Robert to the conclusion that they’re interfering with Daisy’s kitchen work and stressing out Mrs. Patmore. (Danger: Intelligent Female Alert!) I was actually surprised how well Robert handled the truth when Mrs. Patmore assured him Daisy’s lessons weren’t a problem — and not at all surprised when Miss Bunting kept pushing Robert’s buttons about it.

Every so often, The Simpsons takes you back down to the past, more often than not to examine Homer and Marge’s courtship, or the early days of Bart and Lisa. Usually good for a laugh and a sentimental tug at the old heart strings, flashback episodes of The Simpsons are often some of the most beloved.
Of course, they’re not all hits. Even with a relatively small number of episodes out of the over five hundred outings in The Simpsons catalog, there are a few land mines to avoid (or ridicule in your best Comic Book Guy impression) along the way.
Which were the best? Which were candidates for Worst. Episode. Ever?
Take note – in ranking these episodes, only those whose primary focus is on the past will be considered. No momentary flashbacks will be examined. In short, the bulk of the episode needs to be set...

The next gimmick-themed WWE PPV is just around the corner, and fans are gearing up to see who will face Seth Rollins inside the demonic structure known as Hell in a Cell: John Cena or Dean Ambrose. If that is the only cell match on the PPV of the same name, then it will be the 29th Hiac match in WWE history, a storied past that reaches back 17 years.
Hell in a Cell is supposed to be a rarely used gimmick in WWE that is an endpoint for feuds. Consider that before WWE implemented the Hell in a Cell PPV in 2009, there had been only 16 cell matches (over 12 years). That means the remaining 12 have taken place in the last five years (although one is a dark match). Ten have taken place at the five Hiac PPVs, and the outlier is the Undertaker-Triple H “End of an Era” match at WrestleMania Xxviii.

Hello, and welcome to The Best Of Number Two here at The Liberal Dead. We haven’t done any kind of theme for a long time, so I thought I would reach out to some some talented people from other sites, and see if we can put something together. I decided it would be a theme about the best second films in a franchise/series. Expect discussion about Metamorhosis: The Alien Factor, The Devil’s Rejects, C.H.U.D. II, Blade II, Sleepaway Camp II, Amityville 2, Island of the Fishmen, The Dark Knight, Final Destination 2, House II and more.

This April, Monster Pictures will be releasing Shawn Holmes' feature debut, Memory Lane, in a special 2-disc DVD set, and they have given Twitch an exclusive first look at the artwork.Emulating the likes of Chris Nolan's Memento, Shane Carruth's Primer and even Joel Schumacher's Flatliners, Memory Lane is a fragmented story about Nick, a returning serviceman, whose mysterious new girlfriend Kayla is found dead. Feeling devastated, Nick tries to kill himself, but in the moments between life and death he discovers he can time travel and be with Kayla once again. After his friends find Nick dying and save his life, he becomes determined to create this out of body experience again to revisit his time with Kayla and try to piece together the puzzle...

It’s a sad truth that $300 doesn’t go very far in today’s world, least of all when it comes to making a movie. Good for us is the fact that somebody forgot to tell director Shawn Holmes, who through the power of goodwill and scrounging managed to create his debut feature, Memory Lane, with exactly that budget.
With the film coming to the UK later this year courtesy of Left Films, you can take an exclusive advance peek at the brand new trailer right here alongside a syndicated Q&A on the movie and then ask yourself... Would you die for love?
Memory Lane stars Michael Allen, Zac Snyder, Meg Barrick and Julian Curi; it was directed, produced, and co-written by Shawn Holmes. Check out all the goods below, and keep it right here for more on Memory Lane as it becomes available!

Riding in to work this morning, I heard big-time Hollywood director Brett Ratner on The Howard Stern Show discussing his troubles with dwindling box office takes for big budget films. He went on to say how hard it's becoming to pay movie stars' giant salaries with income decreasing due to film pirating and other factors. Well, Mr. Ratner, I'm a big fan of your work, but let me tell you, indies have proven you don't have to pay eight-figure salaries to make a great movie, and Memory Lane hopes to be the next film to prove that.
Filmed for an amazing budget of less than $300, Memory Lane led to first-time filmmaker Shawn Holmes being the youngest nominee ever for the West Virginia Filmmaker of the Year Award.
