John Amos, the career actor who played the adult Kunta Kinte in Roots and James Evans Sr. on Good Times, among countless other memorable roles, has died at the age of 84.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amos passed away on August 21st of natural causes. “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned,” his son, Kelly Christopher Amos, said in a statement. “He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father. He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor.”

August also sees the arrival of a major Amazon Original movie in the form of Red, White & Royal Blue. Based on a New York Times bestselling book, this LGBTQ romance follows a U.S. president’s son and a British prince. Over on the TV side of things, Prime Video subscribers can check out the Sigourney Weaver project The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart on Aug. 4 and Harlan Coben’s Shelter on Aug.

Coming June 8 to Peacock is “Based on a True Story,” a true-crime comedy thriller about a couple (Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina) who decide that getting involved in a murder will somehow save their marriage. All eight episodes will be released at once. This comical look at true crime is sure to entertain audiences, whether they are fans of the genre or not.

Horror delights, rom-coms and a new sci-fi series starring Christoph Waltz are just a few of the highlights arriving on Amazon Prime Video in February. This month sees the debut of the second and final season of “Carnival Row” on Feb. 17, while Feb. 24 is when “The Consultant” – a “Severance”-like thriller series starring Waltz and directed by “WandaVision’s” Matt Shakman – drops.

In terms of new original Prime Video movies, on Feb. 10 there’s “Somebody I Used to Know,” a romantic comedy starring Alison Brie who co-wrote the script with her husband Dave Franco (who serves as director).

And you’ll find last year’s buzzy horror hit “Smile” on the streaming service on Feb. 21, while “Mad Max: Fury Road” filmmaker George Miller’s “Three Thousand Years of Longing” arrives on Feb. 17.

That’s not to mention noteworthy library additions like “A.I.,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley” and “Almost Famous.

February is the shortest month of the year but Prime Video is paying that no mind with its jam-packed list of new releases for February 2023.

This really is an uncommonly stuffed month on the Amazon streamer and it all starts with a handful of Amazon Originals. Amazon’s original offerings kick off with the release of Dave Franco-directed romcom Somebody I Used to Know on Feb. 10. That is followed by Carnival Row season 2 – a gritty fantasy crime drama is set in a world of steampunky fairies. The show stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevigne and this batch of episodes will be its swan song. Meanwhile The Consultant on Feb. 24 is a dark comedy workplace thriller starring Christoph Waltz.

The biggest hits this month, however, might just be some recent cinema faves. If February is for lovers, Amazon didn’t get the memo as there are quite a few horror movies of note here.

Tyler Perry’s creation Mabel “Madea” Simmons is an outrageously anarchic agent of chaos that, until now, has never fit particularly comfortably in Perry’s didactic melodramas. (Imagine Bugs Bunny getting stuck in the world of “Davey & Goliath.”)

With “A Madea Homecoming,” Perry has — probably for the first time since “Madea’s Big Happy Family” — created a vehicle that lets Madea be Madea. No longer required by Perry the executive producer to tone down the material for a family-friendly PG-13 rating, Perry the writer-director-actor lets Madea be the blunt-talking, gun-toting, no-nonsense Thc enthusiast that the character was always meant to be.

Madea’s extended family — including Uncle Joe (also Perry), Aunt Bam (Cassi Davis Patton), Mr. Brown (David Mann), and Cora (Tamela Mann) — gathers at her house for the graduation of Tim, who’s the valedictorian at a never-named Hbcu.

Exclusive: Lifetime has greenlit the next two movies from the T.D. Jakes‘ Seven Deadly Sins anthology with Wrath and Greed. The films will debut on back-to-back Saturdays starting April 16.

Below we’ve assembled a full list of every new movie and TV show being added to the streaming service this month, including both Prime Video originals and library titles.

The new season of the Emmy-winning “Maisel” arrives on Feb. 18, the same day the first season of the new animated series “The Legend of Vox Machina” drops. But on Feb. 4, Prime Video will debut the brand new original series “Reacher,” based on author Lee Child’s beloved Jack Reacher book series. The new show stars Alan Ritchson in the titular role, putting a new spin on the character who was previously played by Tom Cruise in two feature films.

Highlighting Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for February 2022 is Reacher, the saga of one very large boy. Reacher premieres on Feb. 4 and is based on the Jack Reacher book series by Lee Child. The titular hero (played by Alan Ritchson) is a former major in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps who now travels the country looking for trouble to get into. His hands are very large.

When Bosch first premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2014, the streaming world was in a very different place. Netflix had only House of Cards and Orange is the New Black under its belt. Hulu was still a joint venture owned by multiple conglomerates. Disney+, HBO Max, and Peacock didn’t even exist. Now, in June 2021, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases is highlighted by one last outing for LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.

Bosch season 7 premieres on June 25. This will be the last batch of episodes for the series, before a spinoff gets rolling for IMDb TV. For those who are not caught up on the sprawling procedural, Amazon has some other original TV series this month as well. Brazilian crime drama Dom premieres on June 4. That will be followed by the second season of the Anna Paquin-starring public relations drama Flack on June 25.

Scripted by Benjamin Sutor, Rosensweig’s debut feature follows a man who awakens to find himself stripped of all his possessions, and trapped in a bare room. Aided by a primitive computer, he must learn to survive in his new isolated existence where entertainment is the only currency.

For starters, Tenet finally makes its long-awaited HBO Max this month. Mark your calendars as May 1 is the day that you can finally watch Christopher Nolan’s latest cerebral thriller. Of course, Tenet already had its theatrical release, but obviously that was not really an option for many of us. In addition to Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984 makes its triumphant return to HBO Max this month on May 13. The Wonder Woman sequel already premiered on HBO Max this past December, now it’s getting a second run on the streamer.

The domestic box office got a jolt in a very big way as Disney and Marvel's Doctor Strange led the weekend with an estimated $84.9 million followed by strong performances by both Fox and DreamWorks Animation's Trolls and Lionsgate's Hacksaw Ridge. Beyond just the wide releases, the continued expansion of A24's Moonlight also contributed to a top twelve that was up a whopping 133.6% compared to last weekend, generating over $182 million collectively and a weekend that was up 20.4% compared to last year. Finishing atop the weekend box office, Disney and Marvel's Doctor Strange delivered as expected, with an estimated $84.9 million from 3,882 theaters. As a result, and thanks to a strong second weekend hold, Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween scored a second weekend atop the box office, dropping just 41% from its opening weekend. Meanwhile, Disney and Marvel's Doctor Strange stormed the international box office. The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe opened in approximately half the overseas markets where it brought in an estimated $86 million ahead of its domestic release next weekend. Saturday Am Update: Sony's Inferno is looking at a weekend opening well below expectations after taking in an estimated $5.6 million on Friday from 3,576 domestic locations. It was enough for a first place finish on Friday and it looks as if it will take the #1 spot for the weekend somewhere around $16 million, but Lionsgate's Boo! A Madea Halloween is proving formidable. The Tyler Perry holiday comedy brought in an estimated $4.59 million on Friday and is expected to bring in a strong $15 million for the three-day, a drop right around 47%. Meanwhile, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back is looking at a much steeper drop than projected. The film brought in an estimated $2.9 million on Friday and is looking at a second weekend around $9.7 million, a 58% drop. Fip's limited release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is looking strong already with an estimated $765,000 on Friday, heading toward a weekend that could top $2.5 million and a top ten finish.

Actress Doris Roberts, best known for playing the title character's mother in the hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, passed away last night at the age of 90. The actress' son, Michael Canata, confirmed to Deadline that she died in her sleep last night from natural causes. Here's what the actress' Everybody Loves Raymond co-star Ray Romano had to say in a statement about her passing.

"Doris Roberts had an energy and a spirit that amazed me. She never stopped. Whether working professionally or with her many charities, or just nurturing and mentoring a green young comic trying to make it as an actor, she did everything with such a grand love for life and people and I will miss her dearly."

Doris Roberts was born November 4, 1925 to Ann (Meltzer) and Larry Green in St. Louis, Missouri, whose legendary career spanned over seven decades. She started acting in the early 1950s, appearing...

Doris Roberts, who played Ray Ramano's mother on "Everybody Loves Raymond," has died. She was 90.

TMZ was the first to report the news Monday, writing that Roberts died Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles. Her cause of death has not yet been revealed.

Though Roberts starred in movies like "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" and "Madea's Witness Protection," she was best known for her television work. In her lifetime, Roberts won four Emmy awards for her work on "Everybody Loves Raymond" and one for "St. Elsewhere."

Roberts continued working until very close to her death, with her last credit being "The Red Maple Leaf," slated for a 2016 release.

Samuel Goldwyn Films proudly announced today a day and date release of March 6, 2015 of writer/director Craig Moss' third installment in the successful Bad Ass action-comedy franchise Bad Asses on the Bayou. Bad Asses on the Bayou reunites the dynamic duo, Frank Vega (Danny Trejo) and Bernie Pope (Danny Glover), as they travel to Louisiana to attend the wedding of their dear friend Carmen Gutierrez (Loni Love). What was pictured as a wedding weekend escape to the south turns violently ugly as madness and mayhem ensue, pressing our senior heroes to once again serve justice.

The anticipated sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues drew droves of moviegoers over the weekend, but not enough to supplant another sequel for the top spot at the box office.

Anchorman, starring Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, and Paul Rudd, piled up an estimated $26.8 million domestic over the weekend, which wasn't enough to exceed last week's box-office topper The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

The Hobbit raked in a steady $31.5 million in its second weekend at the box office, bringing its gross domestic total to $127.5 million. Although Anchorman finished below The Hobbit over the weekend, the film accumulated $40 million total from its Wednesday opening through Sunday.

With Anchorman occupying the No. 2 spot in the Top 10, the animated film Frozen was bumped down to No. 3, but still amassed $19.1 million for its fifth weekend in theaters to improve to $191.6 million in its impressive run.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug had a mighty debut this weekend, though it still fell noticeably short of its predecessor. Meanwhile, A Madea Christmas set a new low among Tyler Perry's Madea movies.Smaug banked $73.65 million, which ranks fourth all-time in the month of December. Unfortunately, it's off 13 percent from last year's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, which set the December record with $84.6 million. This year saw yet another Razzie sweep, but this one was incomplete: Although The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 went into the 33rd Annual Razzie Awards race with a near-record 11 nominations (more nods than there were categories) it only managed to "win" seven spray-painted statuettes, including Worst Picture, Worst Actress (Kristen Stewart) Worst Supporting Actor (Taylor Lautner), Worst Screen Couple (Lautner and 12 year-old Mackenzie Foy) and Worst Screen Ensemble. Throw in Worst Remake/Rip-Off or Sequel and Worst Director for Bill Condon, and the fifth and final Twilight film is 2012's most-Razzed movie. But Twilight S.B.D. #2 (as Razzie wags prefer to refer to it) still fell short of last year's unprecedented all-ten-category sweep by Adam Sandler's Jack and Jill. The 11th Annual Razzie Awards took place yesterday, and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II swept the awards with seven wins including Worst Picture, Bill Condon got Worst Director, Kristen Stewart landed Worst Actress, and Taylor Lautner took home Worst Supporting Actor. Adam Sandler took home the Worst Actor award for That's My Boy. I won't argue with any of these wins, the movies that took home these worst of the year awards definitely deserved it.

The 33rd annual Razzie Awards announced their official nominations today and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" led the way, earning a whopping 11 nominations along with the unofficial title of crappiest movie of the year.

A title that will no doubt become official once the winners are announced on February 23. In fact, Razzie voters think "Breaking Dawn - Part 2" is so bad that they actually gave it more nominations (11) than there are categories (10).

Suffice it to say that there's no point in even listing which categories the film was nominated in, as it was nominated in every single one of them, as well as twice for Worst Screen Couple (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart on the one hand and Taylor Lautner and Mackenzie Foy on the other).

But don't worry, Twihards, because "Breaking Dawn" had good company, if by good company you mean "really bad company," as perennial...

Every year on the day before the Academy Award nominations announced their nominees for the best in film, the Razzies announce their list of nominees for the worst in film. Increasingly, though, it's become a place for haters to hate. Additionally, the nominations aren't productive, they seem to be out to humiliate actors. For instance, it's incredibly unjust to nominate The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 (the best of the series) at all, but certainly not for acting or screenplay. Before we say anything else, there's something that must be said. Yes, we are MTV, the same MTV that, for the past five years, has heaped Golden Popcorn onto "The Twilight Saga," an otherwise award-less franchise. Los Angeles -- The "Twilight" finale had better reviews than the franchise's previous four movies, but you'd never know it from the Razzie nominations singling out Hollywood's worst of the year.

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2" led the Razzies lineup late Tuesday with 11 nominations, including worst picture, lead-acting slots for Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, and supporting-acting nominations for Taylor Lautner and Ashley Greene.

Directors Guild of America overlooks trio for directorial achievement prize, traditionally regarded as Oscars bellwether

The 2013 Oscar hopes of film-makers such as Quentin Tarantino, David O Russell and Paul Thomas Anderson have suffered a setback after they were snubbed by the influential Directors Guild of America awards.

Announcing its nominations for directorial achievement in film-making over the past year, the guild named Steven Spielberg (Lincoln), Kathryn Bigelow (Zero Dark Thirty), Tom Hooper (Les Miserables), Ben Affleck (Argo) and Ang Lee (Life of Pi) as its nominees for 2013. The organisation's annual rundown is seen as one of the most reliable indicators of Oscar success because many of its members also vote for the best director prize at the Academy awards. In both 2011 and 2012, four out of the guild's five nominees subsequently found themselves in the frame for the equivalent Oscar.

While the awards season is usually about filmmakers and actors giving each other a warm pat on the back for the previous year's achievements, the Golden Raspberries instead provide the tittering alternative: a selection of what Hollywood sees as the most mediocre or ill-advised movies or performances from the past 12 months.

There are few surprises in this year's selection, with Twilight making a predictably strong showing along with maritime flop Battleship, as well as Adam Sandler's comedy misfire That's My Boy. It's undeniable that some of the movies deserve a bit of a nudge in the ribs, but we're mildly disappointed that its compilers didn't cast their net a little wider, and pepper some of the categories with one or two more leftfield choices. So, the 33rd Annual Razzie Awards nominations have been announced, and surprise, surprise, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" received the most noms! On any previous given year, I would have agreed. But I felt that the last "Twilight" is actually the best of the franchise!

"Twilight" received 11 nominations out of 10 categories (the film received two nominations in the worst screen couple category) followed by Adam Sandler's "That's My Boy" with 8 nominations, and "Battleship" with 7 nods. We'll see the big winner, or is it big loser (?), on the night before the Oscars, Saturday, Feb. 23rd.

As we await the 85th Academy Award nominations announcement on Thursday morning, we now have a look at the opposite end of the 2012 film spectrum. The 33rd Golden Raspberry Award nominations have been announced, celebrating the very worst of what 2012's movie slate had to offer. Leading the pack is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 with 10 nominations, as the film landed a nomination in every single category. 2012 was a sensational year for movies. People turned out in record numbers to see such brilliant blockbusters as The Hunger Games, The Avengers, and Skyfall. Incredible performances were immortalized in award season favorites from the epic historical drama Lincoln to the tender Sundance breakout Beasts of the Southern Wild.
