Mujeres asesinas

Rating this new adaptation is not as easy since I enjoyed a couple of episodes, but some others are cringy-bad.

I think the main problem is the different format through which the story is told, since this time it doesn't begin with a police investigation, getting rid of memorable characters, such as Doctor Sofía Capellán, protagonist of the first three seasons. Butterflies don't appear at the moment of the murder either.

On the other hand, this time they develop more complex and interesting topics, such as human trafficking, mental problems and transphobia.

In the first two episodes, the antagonists, played by Luis Felipe Tovar and Arcelia Ramírez respectively, outshine the main characters being two of the best performances by far.

Yalitza Aparicio, Jedet and Catherine Siachoque do a wonderful job as the protagonists of the following three episodes.

Unfortunatelly, I can't say the same of the last three, even though they have a good idea, their execution was not great.

This new adaptation is poorly written, the story drags slowly and does not make the case for you to justify why these women get to kill. Overall it doesn't have the dramatic impact the original had. Acting in some of the episodes is really bad, like the one with Jeded. They even had to made up a silly excuse in the story to explain why her accent was so strong. Direction omg, drone shots very amateurish, and color filters poorly chosen. Overall it looks like a cheap telenovela. Some stories should be let alone. The original had it's time and impact, they didn't succeed bringing it back. It explains why when they tried to adapt it for the English market they didn't succeed.

The first season was a little difficult to digest due to the big changes of the format from the 2008 classic tv prequel, but once you get used to that, you really can enjoy it, speacially the improved second season.

In specific I would like to talk about "Esmeralda", the second episode of the second season which I think it could be the best of the whole tv series. Carolina Miranda's performance is really impressive and strong, she totally steals the show.

Some episodes are not so great, but they are not so bad either.

In general it's a very acceptable new adaptation, but it could still improve for the following seasons.

If you want to compare to the original Mexican version of the show, then you shouldn't watch this version.

This is a fresh take on the show, and it seems it is a lot more inspired in the way the original Argentinian version is portrayed, which is appreciated.

The original show had a darker tone and was a lot more raw, which I see this new version trying to do that and not quite failing, but not succeeding either. The only thing missing from this is that some of the climax just doesn't hit quite as good as the original show or the Mexican re-adaptation.

The first episode is the only one I had an issue with, but overall, still enjoyed it. Hopefully the creator/producers take a lot of things into consideration and try to make this show even better!
