James Gunn and Peter Safran are likely doing the Monster Mash today after hearing that the first installment of DC’s Gods and Monsters arc, Creature Commandos, is getting a Season 2 renewal at Max. Between critics flapping their arms for The Penguin, Creature Commandos being a hit, and the new Superman trailer breaking records online, a renewed energy flows through DC Studios, making the future so bright we’ll need to wear shades.

Creature Commandos finds Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) forming a new team to do her dirty work. Code-named Task Force M, the misfit group of monsters accepts jobs deemed too risky for most humans. Creature Commandos boasts outstanding voice performances, with standouts Frank Grillo, Indira Varma, Maria Bakalova, and Zoe Chao. Each team member is more than what they appear, with Gunn taking a “villains aren’t born, they’re made” approach to the squad.

The Asylum have a new film out, Heretics, which shouldn’t be confused with Heretic or even The Heretics as much as its makers would like you to. The film is, surprisingly, only their second foray into this style of filmmaking, with their first found footage attempt being 2013’s Asylum: The Lost Footage.

That’s surprising for a studio renowned for producing low-budget, high-concept films. Heretics should have been the perfect opportunity for them to capitalize on the popularity and ease of found footage films. Unfortunately, however, the results are less than impressive.

The film begins with a somewhat nostalgic opening sequence, we hear the whir of a VHS tape being inserted into a player, followed by flickering video static and the appearance of cryptic praises to Lilith.

While his New Jersey home was presumably being egged and toilet-papered by empty-handed trick-or-treaters, Bruce Springsteen spent Halloween night on the road, performing a sold out show with the E-Street Band in Montreal. While the Boss couldn’t be bothered to dress up as, say, a pirate, or a giant, freakishly lifelike E.T., he did get into the Halloween spirit by playing a seasonal track.

In fact, Springsteen opened the show with his Halloween tribute: Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters” – which, as we’ve discussed before, isn’t so much about scientists fighting ghosts with nuclear accelerators as it is about horny poltergeists being total pervs.

Hallmark stars Ashley Williams and Nikki DeLoach hosted the seventh annual Dance Party to End Alz: Halloween Edition on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Avalon in Hollywood, which raised $250,000 and counting for the Alzheimer's Association research grant program.

The event founded by Kimberly Williams-Paisley was emceed by Jonathan Bennett and Melissa Peterman.

Williams and DeLoach opened the evening with a surprise performance of “Thriller.” The duo welcomed guests and shared why co-hosting the event meant so much to them after both losing a parent to dementia. Williams’ mom, Linda, passed away with Alzheimer’s in 2016, and DeLoach’s dad, David, passed away with Pick’s disease, a rare form of dementia, in 2021.

Apartment 7A Trailer: "Paramount+ today released the official trailer for the all-new psychological thriller Apartment 7A, available to stream exclusively on Paramount+ Friday, September 27 in the U.S. and Canada, Latin America and Brazil and on September 28 in the U.K., France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Australia. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to the legendary horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the infamous Bramford building before Rosemary moved in.

The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures has unveiled a killer lineup of programming for fall 2024, including in-person appearances from Rita Moreno, Sophia Loren, Werner Herzog and more, as well as exciting new screening events and a special free admission day on September 29 for the museum’s third anniversary.

Herzog will present a new 4K restoration of the documentary “Burden of Dreams,” about the making of his masterpiece “Fitzcarraldo,” on September 7. Another Halloween season is almost upon us, and we’re still waiting for director Mike Dougherty to get the long-awaited sequel to his horror anthology film Trick ‘r Treat (watch it Here) into production. Back in 2022, he said the sequel is in “very active development“ and last year he mentioned that there is a “really great script” in place that he wrote with his Krampus collaborators Zach Shields and Todd Casey… and yet we still haven’t heard anything about the sequel actually getting made. While we wait to find out what’s going to happen with the sequel, Arrow Video has announced that they’re going to give the first movie a limited edition 4K release!
