Ram Teri Ganga Maili is one of the most iconic and well-known movies in Hindi cinema from the 1980s. Directed by the visionary Raj Kapoor, the film starred his youngest son, Rajiv Kapoor and Mandakani. The movie was an all-time blockbuster and was one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the decade alongside 1981’s Kranti and 1989’s Maine Pyar Kiya, and is also among the films with the highest footfall.

The movie catapulted Mandakini to instant fame for her unforgettable portrayal of Ganga, but not many know that she wasn’t the first choice for the role. Interestingly, Raj Kapoor had initially cast a 14-year-old actress to play the lead. However, the initial casting choice didn’t pan out as expected.

I’m curious about the thing the writers of Bloody Beggar were on, because it’s hard to believe someone sober coming up with something as wacky as this. Even if the story is not the kind of thing that you haven’t seen before, and it has the clear hangover of movies like Ready or Not and Knives Out, the execution here is something else. Brojendro aka Boong (Gugun Kipgen), a lively boy with plenty of ideas on how to shake up the world of adults, is longing for his father Joykumar (Hamom Sadananda) who left to work in Moreh, (a town bordering Burma/Myanmar) years ago.

A political exploration gift-wrapped in a coming-of-age drama, Lakshmipriya Devi’s debut feature “Boong” follows its lively titular schoolboy on an adventure along India’s militarized eastern border. In search of his missing father, Boong (a firecracker Gugun Kipgen) helps paint a portrait of modern Manipur, the isolated Indian state neighboring Myanmar, at a time when violent eruption feels all but inevitable.

As it happens, the state did, in fact, descend into ethnic conflict not long after “Boong” wrapped production, making Devi’s film a bittersweet time capsule. When the film begins, Boong is a mischievous prankster with spectacular aim. His father, Joykumar, taught him how to use a slingshot before leaving for the border city of Moreh in search of work.

Boong’s teachers don’t quite know how to handle or punish his amusing practical jokes, like when he recites Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” when asked to lead his school in prayer.

New Delhi, March 28 (Ians) Veteran actress Mandakini recalled her initial days of acting career and how certain times she had to shoot for long hours without getting any breaks.

She added that she loved sharing screen space with all her co-actors and she missed those days.

The 59-year-old actress posted a throwback picture of her on Instagram and wrote in the caption: “I remember those days when I had to wake up early and sometimes we had to shoot till morning.”

Mandakini, who acted with many popular Bollywood actors such as Rajiv Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty, Aditya Pancholi, Govinda, and many more, added that she enjoyed working with the stars of her time.

“I loved sharing screens with my all co-stars. It was an amazing time,” she added.

Mandakini, who became famous with her debut film, Raj Kapoor’s blockbuster film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’, and then courted notoriety briefly with her rumoured association with Dawood Ibrahim, is making a comeback in the upcoming music video titled ‘Maa O Maa’.

The teaser of the song, which was released on Friday, features Mandakini with her son Rabbil Thakur, actress Babita Banerjee, and child artistes Simran and Chirag. This is the first time that Mandakini, who became a follower of the Dalai Lama in 1990, and has been a teacher of Tibetan yoga, will be seen in an entertainment product after she quit Bollywood with the 1996 film ‘Zordaar’.

Taking to Instagram, Mandakini unveiled the teaser of the song with a matter-of-fact caption: “Song coming out soon”.

The ‘Maa O Maa’ music video, directed by Sajan Agarwal, will soon be released on the Filmy Clap YouTube channel.

Rajiv Kapoor passed away on Tuesday after a massive heart attack. For the first time in 31 years (his last released films were Zimmedaaar and Aag Ka Dariya in 1990), he was gearing up for a new film. He was set to return in Toolsidas Junior, starring Sanjay Dutt.
